Can Southampton Expect Any Help from Elsewhere This Weekend Thursday, 11th Apr 2024 21:23 Saints take on Watford looking for a win that will keep their feint automatic promotion hopes alive this weekend, but can they expect any hope from elsewhere after top three all faltered in midweek.
First fixture on the Championship calendar is on Friday evening where Plymouth take on Leicester City, Argyle are just two points off the relegation zone but are putting in some gritty displays as they battle to avoid the drop, perhaps Leicester could drop a point in this one.
Then it is Elland Road where Leeds United take on Blackburn Rovers in the 12.30 kick off on Saturday, the Lancashire side have picked up in recent weeks but they are a jekyll & Hyde side, after destroying Sunderland away 5-1 and drawing 0-0 with ourselves last Saturday, Rovers then got slaughtered 5-0 at Bristol City, so I can't see much hope for this one.
Nest up Ipswich host Middlesbrough and as we saw Boro are a tough side to beat, so we could hope for a draw in this one.
Could this be a weekend where we suddenly close the gap between 4th and 3rd and suddenly give ourselves a fighting chance of automatic promotion again, we will know two of the answers to that by the time we kick off against Watford, but all we can do is win our own game, take another step to securing at least 4th and then see where we are after the weekend.

If we win the last six games of the season we are in with an outside chance of automatic promotion purely because two of the games are against Leicester and Leeds. Anything less from us and it’s playoff time I’m afraid.

Everyone at the top is in indifferent form ATM. I agree with SaintMark, we are playoff bound, unless we win all 6. That's highly unlikely given our current form, but I just can't help myself thinking we still have a chance. Wish I could see sense! COYR

Please just get our heads around the fact that we will not be Promoted in the top 2. We WILL make The Playoffs, a magnificent achievement, given the disaster of last Season. To be in The Playoffs with 80+ points, is worth celebrating. Forget what could have been if we'd won more points. That Ship has sailed. Stay Fit. We are definitely a Top 3 Side. The Playoffs are a completely different game experience to the normal League Fixtures. 80% possession won't necessarily win you the game, but an attacking determination to do or die, more than likely wins the games. Draw on the experience of Players who've progressed through the Play Offs. We are more than capable of progressing. For our financial future we need to be back in The Premier League. Should we achieve promotion in the first year following relegation, that would be a magnificent achievement, and the Players and RM would deserve much praise. I hope we play WBA in the first games, then, I hope it's Ipswich or Norwich in the Final. We can do this. It's no good saying if RM had made different decisions we should've, could've got more points. If my Aunt Freda had Balls, she'd be my Uncle Fred. Good Luck to the Team in The Play offs.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? West Ham United Polls |
