Hartlepool Off
Hartlepool Off

Saints ca breathe a sigh of relief and get the Xmas shopping done this Saturday.

The postponement of the fixture at Hartlepool so early will come as a relief to Saints in that with several injury problems they could use an extra week to get some players fit, especially lee Barnard who has been suffering of late but had to play through the pain barrier to ensure that Saints did at least have one striking option that was likely to score from open play.

Also as mentioned earlier it is probably better to have Jose Fonte missing for a home game rather than away.

But for Some Saints fans it will be a nightmare, those planning to go up and back in a day wont be too unhappy given the weather conditions, but others who have booked advance hotel rooms or travel may find that they are unable to get a refund. On one hand though those that went last year will remember just how exposed to the the North Sea the ground was and it would not have been a pleasant experience on Saturday if the game had gone ahead, an indication of the problems they have up there is that I think this is the 3rd game they have lost to the weather this season already.

But once agin it now looks like the trip will be an evening game, the only real question being when Saints will squeeze it in.

It was the only decision that could be made as the amount of snow up here is beyond anything I have seen for years, if ever. Even with a thaw there would be no way it would be ready. Have to say though, that it may be cold at Hartlepool at any time, but possibly the friendliest away place I have ever visited and I was looking forward to going again. But, yes, I can do the Christmas shopping and have no excuses now......well, not yet, anyway.

I am glad this game is off, if only to allow Saints more time to rethink their strategy away from home. Since the win at Hillsborough they have been less than impressive away from home. I believe this is because, in common with many other teams it's, 'lets not try too hard to win in case by doing so, we end up losing'! (4-5-1) A wise maxim for some clubs in our league, but surely not for the Saints. We are good enough to beat anyone away from home, but we have to go for it. (4-4-2) 'Faint heart never won fair lady'! The message has to be, ' We play to win regardless of who or where!
