Pressure mounting on Russ.

You’d probably get on well with Trump. He’s also well known for constantly repeating the same old boring crap which rarely has any substance or credibility.

A good reliable honest pro who has served our club really well. This is likely to be his last season at Swansea.

Losing 17 out of 21 ?

That’s simply not true is it. We lost 16 all season and finished in a respectable 10th.

The Saints squad had lost a lot of their key players after relegation from the Premier League. Martin helped them recruit good quality replacements and they did well to get promoted including an unbeaten run of around 20 games. He’s done well so far in management but he’s got a big job on his hands this season. I hope he is given the time to get it right….

It’s fair to say that Spain revolutionised the way that stylish and successful football was implemented with their so called tiki-taka short intricate passing patterns utilising players with a low centre of gravity who were all very comfortable on the ball. Many regarded their team of 2008/2012 as the best ever football team and winning the World Cup supported that. Praise indeed.

So you can see why coaches in this country have tried to copy that style. Martinez cleverly brought a version of it to Swansea over night with success even in league one.

But there has become a bit of an obsession with some managers and coaches. You need to have the right type of player and one who wants to play that way. Spain did not take unnecessary risks in defensive areas whilst they did prefer to play out from the back. That football intelligence and decision making of the highest quality can separate the very top player from those who have the ability but not mental strength.

The basics of football are simple. It’s not rocket science and Jobs is quite right with his assessment. We do not have the players, not enough of them to be too intricate. Cabango for example is a very useful championship defender but he’s not good enough on the ball. Joe Rodon of Leeds now is.

I thought that Russell Martin tweaked a couple of things with his methods which paid dividends for Swansea and then at Southampton . Presently I don’t see that we have the players to implement an intricate short passing possession based game but time will tell. Luke knows what he wants but this is not the Swansea City club we all used to love …..

It’s a difficult time for the Club. Balancing the books whilst we try to play a certain way but without enough of the type of player required.

On Yates, I’m not sure he’s a Championship player. Some of the comments on this thread are disgraceful as he’s certainly got ability and some quality but he’s not prolific and never has been. That’s not going to change.

Paul Clement left in the December after being with us for 12 months during which we picked up 47 points from his 41 games.

Carvalhal cane in just after Xmas. The club was in decline and becoming a shambles off the pitch. We still had just enough player wise to stay up but we struggled for goals with Ayew topping our charts with only 7 in the league.

There were many reasons that contributed towards our relegation but you can’t try to rewrite history by blaming it all on Paul Clement. Even by your standards that’s way off the mark…

He’s been dreadful so far. Slow ( in movement and thinking ) ponderous and hardly looking like a Championship player yet. Unless he’s getting fitter and sharper he won’t be good enough and that’s a certainty …

He won’t be starting this weekend. And it’s unlikely that he will feature too much this season. Coming up to 35 he’s coming to the end of a good career.

Why do Swansea want Rushworth?
at 21:24 16 Aug 2024

One of two decent points but as usual lots of invented stuff too

By the way Shelvey I thought had gone a couple of years before Cooper arrived so it’s a bit unfair to try to blame Cooper for his salary

Garbage?

I’d strongly disagree with that whilst realising that we can get much better. They could not get the ball off us and we were in complete control against a hard working organised league two side. West Brom for example came unstuck at Fleetwood so you can see that nothing is guaranteed. Our possession based style means that we will dominate the ball more often than not but we can improve in the final third where too many times we cut back inside to keep the ball, then went backwards instead of gambling by taking on a defender. We will get better but I can’t see us improving on last seasons 14th placing. I’m expecting around 16th this time and a season of mediocrity with some good wins thrown in here and there.

Decent enough from Swansea. Dominated throughout and encouraging signs but we do need to be more incisive and speed things up in that final third.

Mel Nurse statue ?
at 00:11 10 Aug 2024

There’s no doubt that Nurse has helped the Club in the past as many others have. He was also a good centre back when we were a decent Division Two side.

But as for a statue? Definitely not. On the other hand one man is certainly deserving of a statue and that’s Alan Curtis. Let’s get it done sooner rather than later.

Sheffield United in for Grimes ?
at 18:35 15 Jul 2024

Grimes has been an outstanding Swansea player for six seasons, hardly missing a game under various managers. His superb range of passing and football brain allows him to dictate games whilst he’s not the dynamic box to box midfielder that some may be confusing him with you need the right balance e within your midfield. This is why for example Declan Rice is so highly regarded.

Anyone who does not appreciate Grimes has little knowledge or real understanding of what’s required on that pitch. He’s not the complete player otherwise he’d be playing for Real Madrid but as Championship players go he’s one of the best undoubtedly, regardless of what system and formation is employed.

Incorrect again Jobs. He came back to us when we were in the Championship and was mainly used as a sub, still managing the best goals to minutes ratio in the division.

An absolute legend in every respect .
