We'd have had Villa away....

If anyone at the club is interested. In theory anyway.

My only Machiavellian thought this morning, which others must have had.

This slightly underwhelming (?), ever-so-steady start does have the effect of keeping Marti/Xavi under the parapet, no? Is it all part of a data-enabled Nourry-inspired cunning plan? Those Southampton, Wolves and Everton vacancies are imminent imho.

Genius Eze inevitably wraps return narrative – Report

Yes, another great and heartfelt write-up. All angles covered – I did say before kick-off that I would rather we scape through 2-1 on pens after a grim 0-0 draw and then lose 0-5 to Millwall - as opposed to losing to Palace and then winning on Saturday. I genuinely think this scenario would be better for the club and fanbase short/medium and long-term as Clive and others have argued.

And the problem now is there is real self-inflicted pressure (imho) on the team to march out and win on Saturday which wasn’t the case before. We know what happens next.

Agree with the sentiment of this - and also, remember that this week follows a break of 2 weeks (plus one day) for most of our non-international exhausted heroes.

In fact, there have been international breaks in Sep, Oct and Nov for many years now. That's SIX weeks away from competitive football for the majority of players between Aug 31 and Dec 1. Room for most clubs to consider the grinding inconvenience of a potentially lucrative Cup run I'd have thought.

Crikey...hope i'm wrong about those line-ups but it appears one side is going for it and the other isn't. And that one isn't us.

0-4 Palace.

That video is so utterly perfect in every way, it is untrue.

Someone said it belongs in the Louvre. Definitely. It must be preserved in a National Film Registry as being 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant'.

Yep, for most of last season, this was definitely looking like a League One fixture this term. That fact that both of us escaped so dramatically should be a source of inspiration to both.

I’m oddly (dangerously) optimistic about this one, not least because the fixture is outside W12. Our away form under Cifuentes is notably strong in historical terms (only two really poor games/results on the road (Stoke & Hull) this calendar year, believe it or not) and this excellent coaching team has had the whole squad together now for two weeks.

The season really starts tomorrow in earnest - and things appear (...) to be looking up.

2-2.

Only if our CEO's complex, AI-driven, metadata analysis deems such a non-virtual forum necessary. I guess.

Always something, isn't there?

Potentially irrelevant, potentially pivotal - impossible to know which.

If the age of the Earth is a 12 hour clock, humans appear at only 18 seconds to midnight.

I suspect quite a lot of people may know that.

This Head Coach of ours (and his sidekick) - how the hell do we keep them a secret?

Unreal performance, especially (again) after a first half where I felt we were under the cosh. I don't recall Rangers ever being this effective away from home compared to playing at home. Sort out our LR form and anything is possible.

Tremendous, Rangers.

Yep, my reflection too. Excitement that the mighty Crystal Palace are coming across town with a certain star player - mixed with remorse that playing Palace appears to be such a big draw for us these days. For years (decades?) we looked down on them - I almost felt they were a feeder club to us at the start of the Venables era.

Where's Clive Allen when you need him?

Superb result - and a real early season boost. Did not see that coming after a first half in which Luton threatened to sweep us aside at times.

West Ham or Spurs Away please. Not Watford, Coventry or Stoke...

A full strength Rangers XI tonight with the team/club deploying 100% of all in its power to reach the third round of the League Cup.

Truly depressing how utterly delusional my outrageous request above is. Walsh up front, I reckon.

0-2 Luton.
