What no match thread? Rodney gives Dale the lead in 7th minute. |
| Forum Thread | Leyton Orient (a) match thread at 15:51 14 Feb 2023
I have a question for iFollow users. I am going to be late home this evening but if I buy a video pass, can I switch on, 'rewind' and watch as if live when I get in? I've emailed iFollow support but as ever I fully expect the better and quicker answer from this board. Edit: iFollow confirm that I can go back to the match start once I log on, so no peeking from me at this forum this evening, must also avoid Twitter and on the off chance we get three points then I should pass on News at Ten headlines..... | Forum Thread | Books about Rochdale AFC at 13:50 16 Dec 2022
I wonder if we could compile a definitive list of books about the Dale? It may have been done before and I'm confident that someone will already have a list. I've read or consulted a good few of these and I think Derick Allsop's was my first. Below is my starter for ten and I have included Joe Thompson's book although it's not just about the Dale. I thought I would include the list in a Christmas newsletter to Exiles. If anyone is willing to do a review of the recent books (or any really!) then add a comment or PM me. There was one on here by Drigdale late last month done after reading Chris Fitzgerald's 'The Rochdale Division' and s/he was also looking forward to reading Mark Hodkinson's 'The Longest Winter' about the 1973-74 season. Given our current travails, I just hope that book retains that title in perpetuity. | Forum Thread | Exiles Day 12 March v Barrow at 16:26 8 Feb 2022
A plug for the Exiles Day, back at last after a three year absence, for the home game against Barrow. The Dale Trust has been advertising the event during January but there are still a few places left. The link for Exiles if you want to sign up is below. Willie Burns, who played for the Dale in the run to the FA Cup 5th round in 1990 will be our guest. There will also be a raffle for a centenary shirt with proceeds going to a well known legal challenge fund! Always a good day out. https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2022/01/exiles-day-back-for-2022/ |
| Forum Thread | Dale Exiles: Pre-match social and watchalong Easter Monday v Ipswich at 22:01 1 Apr 2021
A plug for Monday's Exiles Day with a difference. Trust Exiles can sign up for this year's Exiles Day and places are still available. In fact I reckon we could cater for all 231 Exiles via Zoom! We already have fans booked in from Australia, Malta and er Wales for the pre-match social, so here's an invitation to join us at any time between 2 and 3pm. BBM is making an appearance as well as Trust and Club Directors and it's a family friendly event. The event is free but if you are joining for the watch along make sure you get your iFollow pass. Trust Exiles can register on the link below: https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2021/03/exiles-day-with-a-difference-5-april-2021/ i intend to send out joining instructions by Saturday and happy to answer questions on this thread. |
| Forum Thread | NFR: History of the Spotland area at 10:52 30 May 2020
One of my projects at the moment is trying to add context to my family history. I was brought up in the Spotland area and both grandparents were local. My ggf (William Robert Ashworth) was in the early 20th century the owner of Foot Mill, described as a mill beside the first bend of the river north of Spotland Bridge. I can see it on an 1850 map. As it's going to be some while before I am over that way I wonder if anyone walks around there? I suspect it's part of the Healey Dell Nature Reserve. If you do could you look around for any evidence of the mill being there and let me know. I expect many of us have ancestors in the Spotland area so who knows this could be a close season thread! My other ggf (James Goodwin) was a gardener for George Kemp, who became the first Lord Rochdale, so I have been in touch with the current Lord Rochdale and we are now on first name terms don't you know! |
| Forum Thread | All in One Garden Centre shirt 1988-89 at 22:35 3 Jul 2019
I'm researching the 1988-89 shirt for an article and wondered what memories it conjured up? I saw decent players wear it like Shaun Reid, Dave Frain, Jason Smart, Keith Welch (but we still only finished 18th in the fourth tier!). That variation from the late 80s was the one with the blue watering can on a white patch which always seem to me to be sewn hastily onto the blue shirt. Any memories chaps? |
| Forum Thread | Tony Buck - a challenge! at 11:47 2 Feb 2019
I have interviewed Tony Buck for TVOS and my write ups will appear in the next two home games to coincide with his Feb 69 signing and his 'Brush with Death' a year later. He sent me this cutting from a magazine of the time and I thought it would be excellent if we could track down 'Jill Gibson from Rochdale" who won £1 for her choice of Tony as her favourite player. It's a bit of a long shot I know! Memories of Tony Buck welcomed here as well of course from the usual suspects. http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=jJm7XUcEEIyM86Z%2B7zGABoh4l5k2TGxc |
| Forum Thread | The 1968/69 Virtual Pub at 17:16 6 Dec 2018
As some of you know, I'm doing a series of articles for TVOS, focusing on the first promotion season. I hope to do one piece which imagines us all meeting up in this virtual pub where we share our memories of that season. Time travel back to the evening of 10 May 1969 and put down your memories of that season in this thread. What were your highlights? Who was your favourite player? Who did you go to matches with? Do you still go to matches with the same people? Many of you have shared these memories before but it would be great if you could put them here and I'll collate. PM me if you would like your real name mentioned in the write up which will be early New Year I think. Join me in the Virtual Cemetery Hotel - the first drink is on me - it's going to be a lock-in. |
| Forum Thread | Exiles match AFC Wimbledon at 09:38 1 Nov 2018
A plug for the inaugural Exiles away day at AFC Wimbledon on 8 December. We have promoted this again on the Trust website but still have a handful of places left and the invite is extended to any Dale Trust member who would like to join us. Cost is £40.00 for a pre-match meal at 1.00pm, match ticket, programme, and a visit from Dale legend Alan Reeves now on the staff at AFC Wimbledon. Full details on link below to the Trust website but you'd better be quick; deadline is 4 November. https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2018/10/last-call-for-exiles-away-day/ |
| Forum Thread | FA Cup attendance 1949 at 14:04 17 Oct 2018
How were 24,231 squeezed in to Spotland v. Notts County in 1949? I went to matches in the promotion season 68/69 when there were 13000 versus Halifax and it seemed pretty full to me so how could another 11000 be accommodated? Was the ground configured differently then? Can Chalky ask his forbears? Any insights welcomed from the generation above me with knowledge. [Post edited 17 Oct 2018 14:42]
