Is if we just have 40% possession. Let Ipswich faff about with the ball and get nowhere. And we be clinical with the ball when we have it. Of course, that isn’t our way 🙄 I eagerly look forward to seeing the stats show that we had 80% possession; and had just 2 or 3 shots on target. |

I note they are now allowing away fans into the gulags. Hopefully it will kick off and they will have to close them.

TBF in those days the ball spent so much time in the hands of the keepers that the games were a lot less involved. |

A lot of people in their mid to late 50's got out of the habit of working during the days of furlough. They found ways and means of claiming benefits after furlough ended, whether it be a long-standing physical issue or mental health linked. No easy solution to this one; these people aren't returning to work any time soon. |

If he signs a new contract, it will be full of release clauses. It is however a necessary evil for the Club to preserve the potential sale value. I just hope Chelsea don't have a sell-on clause from when he returned to us. Enjoy him while we have him. |

Who knows, maybe Ross Stewart will jump to the top of the chart.... Are we including Cup games in this BTW? Nick normally says they don't count...... |

Fernandes and Lallana play completely different roles though. Fernandes is more the Stuart Armstrong replacement we were after, who will make attacking runs to support the striker. Lallana reminds me a lot of Modric playing for Croatia; he takes the ball from the CB's and keeps the ball moving. He's a very clever player TBF, but he needs runners around him. I think Lallana is more of a replacement for Les Ugo or Downes. |

He strikes me as the sort of player who may score 2 or 3 belters in a season. But more likely to blast shots out of the ground and into the fanzones at the Northam and Chapel Ends. Rough with the smooth. Bit of pace about him though. Wonder if we might be better off with him playing up top more centrally. |

Still a lot of causes for concern last night, not least the lack of shots on goal relative to the possession we had. I'm not sure we are ever going to see an improvement on that under this manager while we are in this League. It did however strike me that the players are all trying their hardest for Russell Martin. We went a goal behind, and could have caved in, as we have done in the last two League games. Granted we were playing a weaker opponent last night; but there did at least seem to me to be quite a lot of fight and togetherness in the team. We will need a lot more of that in the coming weeks. |

I don't know who Dave Hendrick is, and how more qualified he is than any of us to offer a critique on Saints. He just says that Stephens and Fraser aren't good enough for the Prem. Many may agree with this. He doesn't however offer much in terms of solutions, and / or state which players are good enough. There is so much sh1t or bust in the mix here, with a fair few players in our squad who have not played in the Prem before. And as with 2 years ago, we are reliant on a number of very young players to come good for us pretty quickly (Dibling, Fernandes, Archer, Les Ugo, Harwood-Bellis, possibly Edwards). And we may yet be reliant on Ross Stewart's fitness. So many unknowns. |

Apart from Fraser’s shot from a tight angle and Brereton’s shot from outside the box near the end, I can’t think of any saves the Everton keeper had to make during the 90 mins. The goal apart, obviously. Hardly a triumph for a strong Saints team against Everton reserves. Still, a win is a win. And we thrashed them 74-26 in possession. So the manager will be pleased. |

But was this partly not due to the genius Hassenhutl playing him at left-back, despite this clearly not being his best position? He had a bit of a habit with doing this with various players….. |
