At last Tall Paul gets a start.
at 18:05 26 Dec 2024

Shame about the result, but a lot of positives from today.

Tall Paul had a good game, but his finishing was not the best, He should have had 3 today, but put in a big shift as did most of the players.

West Ham goal was scrappy and result of poor defending.

Would like to see same team next game, but with Archer in place of Armstrong and Sugawara dropped (but not for Stephens). He seems to always have a mistake in him and his positional play at back looks questionable.

Aribo didn't appear to know where their goal was. He was constantly playing ball back.

I struggle when people question B-K's attitude but quite happy to accept Jack Stephens. He obviously had a run in with Martin, but he is streets ahead of Jack Stephen's who was getting a regular game and let the club and supporters down big time with his childish attitude against Man U, Officials and more recently Chelsea.

I would have B-K in the team ahead of Stephens all day long,

Nick, Stephens has been poor for years. This wasn't just under Martin, although I accept Martin did him no favours shoe horning him into all sorts of positions, when there were better options.

5 things about Fulham
at 11:41 23 Dec 2024

1. Decent pint in the 8 Bells

2 I still cant stand the Pink away shirts and thankfully didn't see any on the day.

3 Their new stand looks good, but still has restricted use as work is still ongoing.

4. Very subdued home support, but it has always been like that.

5. I think MK Dons had a mixed concourse when we were in Div 1 ? Not a 100%

Ramsdale & KWP back against Fulham

You are probably right. I do recall it being a general stand, where many London tourists and neutrals went. My log in ID worked from previous visits, hence I took advantage of getting a ticket.

The home and away supporters even shared the same turnstiles etc.

There was no chance of me getting evicted as there wasn't much to get excited about !

Still a good day out despite their £7.20 for a tin (yes tin) of Guinness in the ground !

This a fair point. I would go to more away games, but tickets are hard to get hold of. I got mine yesterday in the 'General' stand that Fulham have, which was next to away supporters (Cost £47 !!).

It also made it difficult getting into the 'away' designated pubs (8 Bells and Temperance), as they checked some tickets and Saints tickets had a red band on and mine had a black band. There were quite a few Saints fans in the general Stand.

I agree with sentiment around Armstrong. I wouldn't be averse to selling him in Jan and believe a challenging championship side would be interested. He has a good record in that division. Sadly he he just hasn't delivered in Premiership.

I would prefer to see Archer up there.

I was there and it wasn't just a few morons. it was just a bit of light hearted fun, but it was true, it was our first meaningful attempt at goal.

I would be very surprised and disappointed if he got back in. I think the back 3 HB, JB and Wood have look a lot more solid in last few games. Wood looks far more assured than Stephens at the back.

I still haven't forgiven JS for his childish, petulant actions that got him sent off against Chelsea and Man U. I wouldn't even have on the bench if the 3 above are fit.

Does anyone have the 'pedigree' to turn this season around ? The damage has been done. It is a big and probably unrealistic expectation that we can survive this season.

We need to give him a chance, before writing him off.

Fair point but we were also missing Captain Jack.

Ok, you have had your fun. Nobody wants him or his family any where near this club. Not even as a short term option.

Southampton FC Sack Russell Martin
at 10:37 16 Dec 2024

I am curious now, whether SR would have sacked Martin if we had drawn or kept defeat down to 1 or 2 Nil ?

If not, then I will accept (reluctantly) the result last night, if it was final act that got him sacked. I couldn't take it any more.

I am now looking forward to Fulham game and a good day out.

Not the most glittering of CV's. I would be very surprised (and disappointed) if he is even considered for the position.

It’s going to be Lallana, isn’t it?

He wouldn't ordinarily be my first choice, but I don't think there is much to lose by trying him. I would rather this, than some unknown, unproven punt again. It gives us time to get the next appointment right.

I hope they take their time to get it right. We are doomed this season, it would take an absolute miracle and some serious spending in Jan to turn this around.

I am not even sure there is anyone out there at the moment that is either available or would want to come at this time ?

Here's some suggestions to keep you occupied until the next disaster at Saints FC:

EVRI delivery - waiting in all day and delivery doesn't turn up
Trains
Rachel Reeves budget
Cold calling and scam communications
Pot holes
Doctors appointments
Woke policies
Biological men in women's sport
Wifi / phone signal issues

Southampton FC Sack Russell Martin
at 07:45 16 Dec 2024

It's finally done, but far too late. In the early days I was happy to give him a chance, but his arrogance and failure to adapt was his eventual downfall.

Throughout this whole sorry episode, I was surprised that a number of the players backed the style of play (inc Ramsdale and THB, KWP), when it clearly wasn't working. The table and stats didn't lie.

I am pleased he has gone. Do I think we will survive ? Not a chance, but it will give us a window to start planning effectively for next year.

If Martin was hoping to get a gig like Vincent Kompany, who also failed with this possession based style of play at Burnley (and was also about 6th choice at Bayern) he is more deluded than I thought. His CV is absolutely trashed and it wasn't that good to start with.

The only winner here, is Swansea. They managed to off load the arrogant tw*t and get paid at the same time.

Martin surely cant survive after tonight ?

We are already down, so why nit just put Lallana in charge and plan for a change of manager at end of season.
