How are Gateshead 4th in the league?

A really hard watch that but fair dos we managed to snatch it.

A weird team selection for me and even weirder that McNulty waited until almost the 70th minute mark to make a change.

We go on though.

Good win against a team who are up there and play a lot like ourselves. With so many changes, credit to all involved for getting a result. That includes Mitchell who should have put away that chance but he kept on going. For his confidence, that would have been massive.

Singing about someone on the bench relentlessly won’t do him much good either.

Thought Kingdon had an excellent full debut, if Gordon is out for a while he looks an able replacement.

To control the controlables that’s all we can do. To that end job done tonight. Oldham are in a slump at the moment. There is still so much to play for and there will be plenty of twists and turns yet. We have lacked consistency for so much of the season. Now would be a good time to put that right. We have the squad to put a strong run together, do we have the gnarl and grunt? I would like to think we do.

Agree regarding Kingdon, he was solid throughout and hardly put a foot wrong. Gateshead neat and tidy but created very little. We deserved the win in the end for our perseverance in what was a classic case of two teams cancelling each other out.

Gateshead looked like a lightweight version of us.

Despite the missed chance Mitchell played with more fire tonight and might have had a goal with better control.

Barlow made a difference and Kingdon was excellent on his debut.

Need to get a result on Saturday against a team that lost 0-4 tonight.

We were comfortably the better side last night, which surprised me given Gateshead’s scoring prowess.

Mitchell had a few moments where his control let him down, and he’ll be disappointed not to have scored after a brilliant pass from Gilmour. However, we kept pressing, and thankfully, we capitalised on our positive play in the second half to secure the goal, avoiding any post mortem over missed chances.

Defensively, we remained strong, and what forays the visitors did have forward were usually met with a bit of thunder, especially from Liam Hogan, who took a good few dents for the team.

The pleasing aspect was how we continued to probe Gateshead’s backline until we got our reward. The introduction of the subs gave us a fresh spark, with each of them making an impact. It was a game there for the taking, and while we could’ve perhaps scored more, the important thing is we’ve secured three vital points, which sets us up well for a key run of home games.

I thought Kingdon stepped up admirably in Gordon’s absence, delivering a very solid performance. With McNulty confirming Gordon will be out for a significant period, as well as Rodney, it looks like Kingdon will have a much bigger role going forward. Unfortunately, we won’t see Okeke again this season, which is a big blow.

The real challenge with a congested fixture schedule isn’t necessarily fatigue, but the toll injuries can take. It's vital that we manage these situations carefully as we move through this critical phase of the season, which could ultimately make or break our play-off ambitions.

I think Hogan is proving to be a good signing, a no nonsense defender who is strong and wins most of his headers. He also brings loads of experience to the backline which we have missed since EEL picked up his injury. We've beat two top teams over the last few days and not conceded, that should give everybody plenty of confidence after a recent run of poor results in the league.

Well we desperately needed that, especially with Eastleigh, Altrincham and Halifax all winning - its just kept us within touching distance of the play offs, but realistically we have to win these next 2 home games then get something at Oldham. It will be tough with players getting injured and fatigue. Jim rotated the squad last night and it just about came off thanks to the substitution's and Gateshead mimicking a lot of our recent performances of pass, pass, pass, pass but no attempts at goal - their manager at weekend complained about squad fatigue and injuries too.

5 of our 7 remaining games in March are against teams 18th or lower, 3 of them at home. Think we need 13-15 points from those to realistically mount a playoff charge. Biffos & York will be tough but the rest are very winnable.

Good post match interview with the manager I thought. He mentioned the need for togetherness and I fully agree with him. Let’s get behind them for the ‘business end’ of the season and see where it takes us.

Four, not five.

Wealdstone, Boston, Maidenhead and Aldershot.

Oldham are dropping like a stone and Alty beat York away last night, there's nobody in that league to be overly worried about if we just play to our own strengths.

The injury toll is already building up and it would not surprise me if both Hogan and Waller were doubts for Saturday as they both appeared to be limping and carrying injuries at the end last night. The team will need all the support we can give over the next few weeks and we need to acknowledge that Jim will have to 'box and cox' the best he can with the players available. UPTD.
