Time to go Jim. The turning point 16:36 - Feb 22 with 7382 views | ThreeLions | Losing to the team on top and in form is no great shame but the way you do it by playing absolute dross is clearly on show this afternoon. Today has to be the turning point that the owners see it's not working and we need a change if we are to save the season. Crowds are falling, the players look totally demotivated and drained of any spark they once held. I've given him a bit longer to sort it out after him sticking with us last season when we were on the brink of nonexistence but you can't run a football team off the past and the current and future holds more importance. Thanks for everything Jim we appreciate it but it's just not working.

Time to go Jim. The turning point on 16:31 - Feb 25 by rochedale | No they don’t. The only person who has brought our club any success in our lifetime is definitely a better option than what we have had since and probably after. I’d have him back in a heart beat. He knows how to do it. Just because certain sections of the supporters didn’t like his post match interviews! It’s a joke. He can say what he wants post match, it’s what he does on the pitch that should matter. In 35 years ish of supporting Rochdale, there’s never been better football played or anywhere near the success as when KH was in charge. To say otherwise or to say ‘get over it’ speaks volumes of those that say that. Clueless. |
What about people who are less bothered by post-match interviews and are more bothered about results? His time here was incredible, but do your rose tinted glasses block out the end of his tenure? Or his jobs post-Spotland? All would suggest he should be nowhere near our dugout (as manager anyway)

Post Rochdale… he was unlucky to be dismissed at Tranmere, I’m quite sure they were in a play off position when he was sacked. And Scunthorpe, had had no chance there and they’ve only just this season started to claw their way back up. With regards comparing KH to Dalgliesh or Souness… KH is still of a managerial age, whereas the other 2 are in their 70’s and both retired. And regards to the end of his tenure here… you’d be forgiven for blaming a lot of that on the issues that were going on behind the scenes in the boardroom and takeovers etc, a lot of which we are still trying to recover from now. Give me fast flowing, attacking football any day over this drivel. A guy who has time after time also been able to spot talent and talent the club has made significant profit from, nothing of the like done since, certainly not to a similar extent. And? Get Edward’s back at Luton then because he got them to the Premier League. Or Bielsa back to Leeds for doing the same.

KH Has done it on two separate occasions for us, nobody has done it for us other than him since the 60’s. Those you mention have had other significant successes. We have only known success with KH, and there’s no reason why it couldn’t happen again. We’ve tried others such as, Beech, Eyre, Coleman, Bentley, Stockdale and now McNulty, all failed quite miserably. Whereas KH has succeeded twice.

I wasn't at the recent Hendo night, but someone told me that Hill himself made a comment there about his style not being suited to modern players. Perhaps someone who was actually there can remember but I believe it was something along the lines of players during his time coming to the club and wanting to learn and him not being sure how Jim manages to do it with current players now.

Darren Ferguson is in his fourth spell in charge of Peterborough having won four promotions over his three previous stints. Ask their fans what they think of said fourth spell.

No. My point is, and I will try again to get it through to you… KH has given us success, nobody else has or has even come close to doing on our lifetime. We’ve tried young managers with no experience and we’ve tried older managers with experience and success at our level. None of which has worked. It’s like the only thing that will work is KH. You keep giving me examples of others, this is your third post now trying that. These other clubs have been able to get success with numerous managers, we seem unable to do that for some reason, so why not give it a go again, that’s my point. Go on, give me another example of clubs and managers blah blah blah.

For someone who moaned at fans being sensitive over his post-match comments you’re not half a sensitive soul when someone has a different point of view to you.

We were nailed on for relegation when he was sacked. He was collecting players like postage stamps and we regularly conceded three and four goals. Nobody liked him at Tranmere or his football, he turned on the fans in the main stand and suggested they were out of order for expecting the team to do well in the play offs...that was him on toast when he did that. He broke the record when he then went to manage at Scunthorpe, the worst results of any manager in their history..two wins over 40 plus games i think. He'd lost the plot at Rochdale and was deservedly relieved of his job, his demise continued. It's madness that anybody would want him back at the club. Our best manager ever until he started believing his own hype and then his ego consumed him unfortunately and he couldn't see the wood for the trees. He forgot what worked and embroiled himself in coaching manuals, posession stats etc. It was his downfall and we are seeing it now, same happened with BBM. Complicating a simple game. Before he became all self consumed there is no doubt he was our best ever manager though. It's a shame what happened to him. [Post edited 25 Feb 18:26]

Yes, the football prior to Hilly being sacked was truly dreadful. His win rate at Bolton was 6 in 33.

With one of the top budgets in the league. I think Bolton lost 7-1 at Accrington when Hill was managing them. That scoreline needs some digesting. [Post edited 25 Feb 18:33]

But with Keith Hill it was exciting, vibrant, chaotic and most of all fun. Now it’s just carp, plays out of a manual playlist, but never gets past page 1, boring, pedantic and dreadful.

For most of his last two years the football was anything but fun. The Tottenham cup run and a remarkable escape from relegation masked a lot. The only time I’d have had Hill back as manager would have been after Hartlepool away during the relegation season when it was obvious Bentley wasn’t changing anything and we needed a miracle. It was a heart over head moment because the squad was that bad it would need something of a magic touch over a couple of months to stand a chance. On personality alone he could have managed it. But longer term the issues are well documented.

Still would have relegated us. BBM simplified it, we rolled up our sleeves and put in a shift and kept winning 1-0. Then he moved away from that and complicated everything. We didn't cross the halfway line for three months and he copied Hill and broke a record, our worst home run of results in our history. Relegated us with a good team, turning good players bad. You can't keep blaming the players for under achieving and I'm seeing it now with Jim [Post edited 25 Feb 19:11]

Ah, should’ve known! I really didn’t feel inclined to comment, as I said, I wasn’t there. He heard through a friend who was there something along those lines, I had absolutely no reason to comment on Chinese whispers. FYI, I commented on KH’s departure from Tranmere, based on facts/league position when he left. Not many managers get sacked in a play off position, certainly in the lower leagues.

The reason he was sacked was because he took on the whole fan base and said that they were wrong to have expectations in respect of the play offs and also belittled the club in a post match interview. They were in the play offs at the time. The Chairman had very little choice but to replace him. Constantly picking fights for no reason. Their fans forum was very telling at the time, the fans hated him even though he had them at the right end of the table. He did the same with the Bolton fans on Radio Bolton after they lost 7-1 at Accrington and stated the fans should realise where the club was...they had one of the largest budgets in the league at the time and just been taken to the cleaners by Accrington. A bit like McNulty telling us how great part time Tamworth are. [Post edited 25 Feb 20:56]
