Loan players helping or hindering the squad? 13:42 - Apr 30 with 2576 viewsRichardO

Rushworth and Lowe were obviously a help to the first team squad and at one point Ashby and Humphreys were needed because of injuries, Platino had a number of good games for us with positive results early on but later used sparingly, they were all here to gain experience, but were their inclusion a hindrances to our Academy players or weren't ours ready to step up and were the loanees?

If they improve the first team they help, if they don’t, or are no better than our younger players, they are a waste of resources. It will depend on the recruitment any given season.

This season, there have been more misses than hits. Under Steve Cooper, they got an average squad to the playoffs twice.

Yes in my opinion I said it back at the time when Cooper was here and we were signing up loanees, what are we gonna do when they got to go back to their parent clubs some like Brewster were an asset, but far to many others were a waste of a shirt.

I remember Watford going back up to the Prem after they got promoted with the aid of about 8 or more loanees, it didn't help them cause they came straight back, cause they couldn't hold on to those loanees, I think they were the reason why the rules changed regarding Loanee players.

Rushworth will be relieved to escape from the constant barrage of back passes from Wood and Cabango.

Given we are more than likely to lose a fair number of players from the first team squad I have been glad to see a number of the our younger pklayers getting a number of minutes under there belt but did Parker because of his impact not get protected given the rigours of the role he was asked to play, how many of the loan Premier players we have had have come to get match fitness after injuries, breaking down as we pushed them too far, the likes of Placheta technically not a loan play but was not a long term commitment initially, do we persist with him offer a new contract, will a good player for us, could he become a questionably burden like Walsh?
We need to have a clearly define squad with replacement able to slot in the starting 11 in all positions.
If we have players who we know are going to get injured then they must be used sparingly and if first team choice then we need at least two players available to take their place.
If we are aiming to build a first team squad from one season to another can we afford to keep players who are injured prone, running down contracts or loans unless we have suitable replacement coming through the ranks.

Placheta is apparently on around 19,500 a week, not sure if we are paying all that. The move to Swansea was stated as him getting his contract taken over. But he will be lucky to get 9k a week with Swansea. And I mean very lucky.

We needed the short term fixes and yet we went on an unbeaten run with the players we had although some came back from injury.

From what I saw of him he wasn't worth 19.5k a week nowhere near.

He is unlikely to agree a deal with Swansea then. He looks a terrific footballer but unlike Lowe has no end product

From what we have seen of Lowe this season he seems a lot more rounded player compared to his first visit here, tracking back, clearing goals off the line, defending the front post and doing the stuff he did before scoring a number of goals and assisting, seemed to be at the end of his first stint here he was in competition to score goals with Ayew and vice-versa which didn't help the team.
He seems to be at ease here and if we can agree terms would have him back.
As for Placheta providing his injury is sorted would have him back but on the right terms for the club.

Are we confusing loans with recruitment in general this season? We would’nt have had a thread like this when we had Guehi, Gallagher, Brewster etc in the team.

If we went through all our signings this season, Yates, Kukharevych and Pedersen are all bigger headaches than Ashby, Patino, Sagoe Jr or any of our loan players. Of course, there are successes like Key, Tymon and Rushworth in both camps too.

For me, we should only be signing loan players that improve our starting eleven and we’ve generally failed to do that this season, but that’s more down to poor recruitment and is evident with our permanent signings too.

It's faintly bonkers that our joint top scorer can be described as "a bigger headache" than Sagoe Jr.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I can say Sagoe JR is here for development and integration in to a different training philosophy, living away from home, taking personal responsibility to be at training on time and all the other skills a footballer needs away from playing.

That’s why he is costing minimal pounds for this loan.

If that is the case then in no way, shape or form can be he accurately described as a "headache".

He’s here for development , anything else is a bonus. Could see him next season at Swansea.

Maybe.

Thus far he's looked absolutely terrified anytime someone has passed him the ball. Hard to tell if he's any good or not.

That would be a reasonable comment had we spent more than £2m on Sagoe Jr and were likely to spend the summer trying to get his wages off the books.

It was hard to tell if he was any good because given his lack of game time and when he did come on we had reverted back to safe defensive mode with the midfield nowhere near the middle of the park to offer him any outlets except the safety first backward pass.
Like any winger if you get the ball out to him quicker he can then test the quality of the full back one on one.
When Ronald and Placheta first arrived we got the ball to them quicker whether it be to feet or into space behind the full backs or in-between them and the centre back, even Parker when he played we got the ball quicker to him but with the changes and injuries to the back line that quick ball gets slowed down, we will see what happens with Wood in the back four today.

Six loans of player most who cannot even get in most of the match dy team is not a good omen for the like of Cotterill Congreve Loyd and Josh Thomas..
