Cricket 2021 09:04 - Jun 2 with 28628 viewstoboboly

Starts today with England v NZ at Lords.

Finishes with us raising the urn in Oz. Gorgeous day for it, anyone get tix? After having loads of games sorted last year I thought it prudent not to bother this season.

Will be listening to TMS, just hope they have anyone in place of Daniel Norcross whom aggravates me something chronic.

Likewise. Be good to see the openers play like test cricketers. That said, was impressed by India's bowling attack in last test. Thought they were aggressive and varied bowling over/around the wicket as well as angling many of the deliveries. Is it Bumrah who manages 85mph off very short run ups?

He's so unusual, the short run up and weird whirling arms of a spinner, but the ball comes shooting out anyway. I wonder how long his body will allow him to continue.

Malan in a similar position to Hameed, a second chance which he must have doubted would ever come. He's got the ability to do well, but Hameed has more time on his side. Who knows, maybe Vince will get another go soon?

I've got the cricinfo screen on while I work, and I've been gripped by the action in the Women's T20 qualifying tournament running at the top of the screen. Ireland 196/2 off 20, Germany replying with 32/3 off 20, showing a splendidly Gavaskarian disdain for hit and giggle and earning at least a moral draw. France 33 all out (17.3) - extras top-scoring with 14 - Netherlands 34/1 (3.3).

I'm not sure if Joe Root is human, yet another 100.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

That was sudden. First time I looked they were eight down and it’s now all over.

All that talk about Kohli as the master of mind games didn’t age well.

I just popped away to finish sorting out an order for a new SIM chip and putting out kids lunch and came back to hear last wicket go down as literally next thing when I sat down and put my headphones on. Wow.

Never knowingly understood

Superb performance this morning, the England bowlers hardly put a foot wrong.

Delighted.

I think he'll fall 50 or so short. To take wickets in Oz you need that extra pace as it doesn't swing much. He looked past it here 4 years ago so don't think he will will do much this time. Let's say 10 wickets?
Then surely next summer is his last so let's say 20 wickets if he plays every test?

An amazing cricketer who will be sorely missed when he's gone.

surely next summer is his last

I'm not so sure.

This summer he's bowling faster than recent years. OK speed isn't everything, but it shows he's physically as strong as ever. And his skill's not going. Eyesight isn't an issue as it is with batsmen.

If he goes on to 41 (summer 2023) he'll have a decent chance of beating Warne's record. I can see him sticking around for that, he's a competitive bugger (and played against Warne) and I can see him being good enough to be selected on merit.

Obviously he could easily pick up a career-ending injury e.g. to back but otherwise I reckon he'll keep going just to prove he can.

I can't wait for tomorrow- almost 35 and it's going to be my first ever day of live Test cricket. Feel like a kid! Been a decade since I last made it to any type of international.

Nice to get bumped from tickets vs the Windies to this series thanks to Covid!!

head over to the beehive (if its still there!) for lunch, just like at LR leave a little earlier to get a seat. Cricket is a massively underrated day out. Enjoy

Thankfully I'm a non-drinker - am sure ten years ago I'd have fallen asleep by tea and been chuckled at live on Sky!

Will pass the warning on to me old man!
