I currently have an iPhone 6. I bought it outright, rather than be on a contract.
I need a new phone, and I’ll be buying that outright too. I’m on about getting the iPhone 8. I’ve heard people slag the iPhone X, but not sure why.
Would anybody not get the 8?

People slag the iphone X because they expected more innovation from Apple in general with introducing this phone.
Apple is falling behind Samsung with it's innovations, Steve Jobs would be disgusted with that idea.
Nevertheless if you once used the iphone you will feel comfortable with the 8 and i would get it.
Ask yourself what you find important in a phone and make your decision based on that.

After going on and on about wanting an iphone X, i gave in and got one for the other half for Christmas.
I asked her how much of a difference there was between that and her previous iphone 6.
“Not a lot, I just wanted the latest I could get”
Thing is, do you really need to upgrade? Each new release has less and less of an improvement and as said, the likes of Samsung etc are just as good. |  | | |

If you're going for iPhone then see if you can get a competitive price on the 1st gen X (i.e. not XS or XR which will cost more). Screen size is significantly bigger than 8 and camera really good. |  |

I love apple products, have a watch, iPad, Apple TV box and iphoneX, although Samsung supposedly make better phones and screens etc it’s very hard to come away from apple, each new phone doesn’t offer much of an upgrade and once you’ve used one you can use them all. The apps are great. The Mrs got a brand new 7+ on insurance after dropping her old one and it’s such a good phone, also she’s gone sim only on EE and it’s £20pp loads of data and all calls/texts are free, sim only is way to go |  | | |

Top of the line Apple and Samsung phones are still very good indeed but currently don't really offer anything to justify the outlay of £300-500 more than competing devices from OnePlus or Xiaomi. |  | | |

I upgraded from 6 to XR.
Have a look at it, if it’s in budget I’d recommend it.

Apple put inferior, lower spec components in their stuff and charge more for them. It's like paying for a BMW and getting a fiesta instead of getting a BMW and paying for the fiesta. You really are paying for the name. They even try to hide the component lists to stop customers seeing they are blatantly taking the p!ss. So if you want slower, less, worse, more expensive, Apple is the way to go. |  | | |

got a Samsung galaxy 9+ last november.
my first non apple phone since the apple 1
got to say i love it, great screen, i can port my music over using the cable adapter supplied in the box, induction charging (before apple), better screen until apple went to the same supplier.
lots more settings for everything to fine tune it, better camera
would i go back to apple? no, they no longer bring anything to the party, no innovation and a price they know fans will pay, no matter what. |  |
