Match thread: Fleetwood Checkatrade away on 08:25 - Oct 10 by smaclad1 | Oh dear. "Another new poster to the forum". Apologies for breaking into your clique, but if you really think this board is better off without new posters I'd be tempted to leave it to you. As current holder (I think) of the 'best post on here for some time' award for a post in which I described thinking my posts had been sarcastic, borderline rude and something else I can't remember (but hopefully something suggesting humour) I reserve my right to make "exaggerated" comments - among others - even though I have not served a three year apprenticeship on this board and been accepted into the clique. |
I'm not part of any clique, unfortunately. I forgot to send in my membership form. The fact you're a new poster isn't an issue, the fact that you're a new poster with an exaggerated opinion is what I referenced. There seems to be a few lately, taking offence at really odd things and blowing them out of all proportion veiled in poor attempts at humour. I wouldn’t wait on the postman for your award either. So yeah, I guess, like you, I reserve the right to comment on here too — and do you know what? What I say might not always chime with what you think! Imagine that.

Match thread: Fleetwood Checkatrade away on 01:39 - Oct 10 by Dickydaler | A couple of morons a few rows in front of me decided to sing hallelujah after he scored, and few others decided to joined in. It did unfortunately raise a laugh from some. There was, understandably some very fierce glares and shaking of head by hilly. And to be fair to Williams it was a good goal, not just a tap in. I don't think he had a brilliant game but as someone else said he did make a nuisance of himself. |
What would be amusing, is from now on, when Williams scores. He stands with his arms outstretched looking up to the sky, or kneels down as if praying. As a 2 fingers to the ridiculers.

Calling out a single silly comment, eyes bulging as he thought he anticipated a negative remark from the interviewer. God relax Hilly, stop being so precious!

He's sticking up for his player and supporting him. Precisely what you'd expect him to do.

The comment that caused Hills stare, was an ‘At last ‘which was shouted in a jokey manner by a lad celebrating the goal.Yes it caused a few laughs because it was a lighthearted comment said in jest whilst a goal was being celebrated. The only abuse shouted at our players last night was by the great man himself. Two players were singled out repeatedly and what was shouted at them was frankly appalling and certainly couldn’t be classed as constructive in any shape or form. I can remember Hill saying 1 word of encouragement is better than 10 negative or something along those lines. He would do well to practice what he preaches.

Isn't taking offence at the singing of a probably appropriate song after a £100k goal scorer takes more than a year to score a first team goal a bit odd?

I didn't take offence, I said I didn't see why people thought it would be funny. The post I was replying to, and I'm not criticising the poster, referred to the chanters as morons and the fact it was unfortunate people laughed. I suspect that was the post Smaclad should have responded to, but then he wouldn't have been able to be unfunny about the fact I've written a few books. I understand your need to defend him, though, given you bestowed his brilliant award.

Playing devils' advocate, perhaps it is the way KH does the lambasting. It might be better, if he said that he understands why fans get frustrated at times, but making remarks like the those made aren't helpful.

Sorry James, but Keith Hill is a contradiction. That's just the way he is. Just look at his post-match comments after Blackpool in contrast to what he said after the Gillingham win, or what he said about Delaney's international call-ups after apparently dropping him not that long ago. A lot of what he does and says is contradictory. I don't like him bad-mouthing supporters to an external audience, but he won't change. I've never been an advocate of supporters abusing our players at the games as I believe that will never achieve anything positive, and a only a handful of people do this, but if you listen to Hill, you would think we all do it.

I don't think hills reaction came from the shouting of 'at last' but from the singing of 'hallelujah'. Maybe it was a combination of both. Whatever, that reaction to the goal was uncalled for in my opinion. Interesting you should raise the point about hilly shouting at certain players. Whether it was because the stand we were in was sparsely populated but some of the stick he was giving one player in particular was quite noticeable. It's possible that some players may respond better to this sort of 'encouragement' but I found it a a bit uncomfortable listening to it, especially as it was aimed at one of the younger players.

I can’t imagine being bollocked repeatedly by a much older boss in a public arena does much in the way of encouragement or confidence building in any area of work. Does he shout at his favourite senior players like that when they give away yet another goal? . I have never sat near enough to Hill to find out

Unless you work with the players day in - day out, you will not know their character, work rate, strengths, weaknesses or what it takes to get them up to speed. Some need a comforting arm for support, others need a few sharp words to remind them. I'd rather see a manager verbally involved with the players during the match, than sat in the dugout, motionless, silent and seemingly unconcerned.

Yes, SL, we all understand the basics of motivational psychology I doubt anyone would mutter a word about it if Hill didn't seek to make summat of fans doing what they do, just as managers do what they do

I said I didn’t find it funny, and I’m not sure why anyone else would, but people can celebrate as they wish and I would never try to dictate otherwise. I tend to celebrate a goal by cheering and applauding, weird, I know. Yet again another new poster to the forum with an exaggerated view. |
Hope you're not thinking of me as you lambast the army of new posters that have disagreed with you, as I hardly think of myself as a new poster after 10 years or so reading/occasionally posting. Although, admittedly, I don't think I've ever hit the 50 post a week quota that some seem to expect.
