Ms. Abbott, it's not because you are a woman...... on 16:44 - Feb 16 by swanjackal
Well I am gobsmacked!
Edit to match your edit:
Picking a side between those two for me, would be like making a choice between crucifixion and impalement. World Heavyweight Victim Complex title belt on the line when they square off.

Impalement for you, lad.
And crucifixion for Felixstowe for being a total ars*wipe.
Tickets for the show, a tenner.
All proceeds to Women's Refuge.

That's not true though is it. Not the part about her being moronic because she is.
But David Davis saying he would not hug her because he's not blind is offensive. And he made the remark because it is deemed acceptable in his eyes to make an offensive remark to a woman.
I don't think it's that difficult to understand.
There'll never be true equality in this world until women stop making the point that they are women and black people stop making the point they are black. Far too many people with a chip on their shoulder and too much time on their hands

No. there'll never be true equality in this world until all men (rather than some men) realise that disliking a woman for her views, or politics, or manner, or anything else, does not give them carte blanche to use the way she looks as a means of criticising her.
Some of the comments on this thread about Abbott (who I dislike intensely and believe to be utterly incompetent) are disgusting.

Or, true equality would be reached when you treat the person the same regardless of what sex they are. So if you criticise how a man looks then you are free to do so to women too, this goes for both sexes. Using gender as a shield here really does not come across as looking for equality.

We dehumanise that we despise, that's the winding mechanics of enmity.

I'd take some convincing that empathy with the far-left is possible for anybody who wasn't dragged up, Lisa.
There is a very big difference between empathising with someone's political views and empathising with them as a human Lohengrin.
It is perfectly acceptable, even understandable, that someone would want to disagree with Abbott with every fibre of their being. That does not make it acceptable to talk about her in the way she been spoken about in this thread alone. The difference should be easy to understand by anyone that wasn't dragged up.

And of course no women ever do the same towards men do they. It has nothing to do with sexism is just the way some 'people' are. The most sexist show on tv consists of a bunch of women sitting around a table sla**ing men off for an hour, it's been going for years because it's good humour an no harm done. Now if that show was the total opposite and it was men talking about women there'd be uproar after the first show. Equality will never be what it should be because people keep harping on about it .

Of course they do. And I agree wth you about Loose Women - it's appalling, unfunny, and should be taken off the air. On the tiny number of occasions I have seen a few seconds of it, I find it almost impossible to believe how interminably stupid the majority of the viewing public must be.

Not at all. But the thing you 'hate' about her is not related to how she looks, so why bring it up?
It only demeans you and negates your argument.
She's a politician in extremis, Lisa. What she says, what she does, define her wholly. When you hear her being talked of in bestial adjectives it's no different really to the songs about Hitler's 'one-ball' you'd have heard in the schoolyard as a little girl. It's the winding mechanics of enmity I spoke about earlier.
If she were a dinner lady, I'd agree with you, the venom would be unfathomable.

What she says and what she does, does define her I agree.
The way she looks doesn't. People sinking to describe her in terms that you refer to, do so because they lack the mind to challenge her intellectually. And that shouldn't be difficult, let's be frank, because she is badly thought out, simplistic and, frankly, useless.

Then again you could say that any kind of insult, including calling them an idiot, unstable, mentally ill, or mocking their mental state etc. can be just as offensive as mocking their appearance. It is not arguing their points but mocking them outright, and has no relevance, like their appearance to an argument whatsoever.
As Lohengrin has pointed out, we dehumanise, as you do yourself by mocking intelligence of anyone who disagrees with you, the people we dislike/disagree with as a way of point scoring.
It may not be relevant to an argument, or in any good decency or taste, but people do it. Neither ways of attacking someones intelligence or appearance are sexist or misogynistic though, as it occurs to both sexes, which is against the central argument Abbott was making.

Mocking somebody's ability to think if they are in a job which requires or, indeed, is defined by thought is perfectly reasonable. Mocking their appearance is not.
There are other jobs where the reverse may be true. Abbott is not in one of them.

Not a very liberal attitude there, or even expressive of equality :P
I disagree though. Discussing their ideas and giving expression to why they are incorrect is the correct way of doing things. Mocking their intelligence is just a cheap shot at point scoring, just like judging their appearance.
I am guilty of doing both, but I'm not hypocritical enough, or faux offended, in this instance to not see it ;)
But again, neither effect the false claim of sexism/misogyny made by her too.
