At least most people that read the Sun know it's a comic........the big problem is that some readers of other newspapers think they only print facts. They're all making up stories to sell papers, it's just that some are better at concocting stories to suit their readers than others..........FACT | ![](/images/avatars/8685.gif) |

That is induction or falsification- you have made an observation that something has happened before many times so it will happen again. You base a hypothesis that the Sun comes out every morning and will tomorrow as it has previously but there is no proof. You can then observe that is the Sun comes out tomorrow then your hypothesis is correct and it will come out on subsequent days-you still don't know if this is absolutely true and that it will come up tomorrow, but you have disapproved that it did not come up today thus validating your hypothesis. Welcome to the world of Scientific Philosophy and the works of Sir Karl Popper. Completely irrelevant I know but the sun coming up is the best example and I am bored in work. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Indeed that is the case-but the real point is based on the assumption it will some up as we have seen it come up every other day. The other example is swans. If you lived in the 17th Century UK you could say all Swans are white as that is all you have observed. It all goes wrong when Black swans are found in Australia. It is a bit like Lawro's predictions. They are made on assumption over observing football over 50 years. He bases his prediction on teams being successful in the past rather than proof they are any good now. Unfortunately for our friend, there has been a paradigm shift (and I am now in the field of Thomas Kuhn) with the greater success of Southampton and ourselves | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

I reckon you're spot on with the shifting paradiggum, the horrified, disbelieving expresions on faces associated with 'big' teams, in dugouts over the last few years has been a pleasure to watch. Rather annoying though, the subsequent reasoning by pundits on tele, about why the big teams lost the match. | ![](/images/avatars/9940.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

I agree again. Only Gary Neville and Alan Shearer tend to commend our play rather than the big boys having as off day. Had a good chat with a colleague who is a Man City fan about the recent game-his point being although City have defensive deficiencies there has to be sufficient good quality in the opposition to still compete with or beat the big sides. The last four years have taught me one thing-the fans from the bigger clubs are more appreciative of us or Southampton than either pundits or the mass mediocrity of PL teams (Newcastle, Sunderland, W. Ham etc.) who seem to believe they have some right to success. Good governance and a clear strategy work in most fields and football is no different. "With all due respect we should be beating the likes of Swansea' makes my blood boil and it is disrespectful and fails to understand why we are where we are. You can't be lucky for that long. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Monk in for Odion Ighalo on 15:31 - Jun 12 with 2591 views | Pegojack | Getting back to the point of the thread, I could well believe that we might have shown some interest in him as a back up striker, but there's no way we or anyone else will be bidding £8 million for him, inflated market or not. I'd say £2 million is more realistic. | ![](/images/avatars/9145.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Thanks for bringing it back on thread....to be honest I've never heard of Odion Ighalo, for that reason I also thought £8 million was over the top. Yes I know it was the Sun, but they seemed fairly convinced that Monk was after him, that's why I posted. | ![](/images/avatars/8685.gif) |

I've only heard of him after reading his profile on Wiki! Second striker at Watford after Troy Deeney, he's 25 years old, 6 ft 2 inches tall, 2 caps for Nigeria, has played for several Italian and Spanish clubs, joined Watford at beginning of last season and scored 17 goals in 27 appearances. | ![](/images/avatars/9145.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Difficult to recommend (and not really allowed) other than from personal experience. We use Church View who based in Heswall and have a branch in Neston (on the industrial estate) as they have a mix of experience and younger vets. I have been very happy with them. The profession structure means the big companies are taking over-it costs a fortune to buy in to a practice and wages are not that high (30-50K) in comparison to other professions. The problem as I see it is that individuals may not develop skills as well as in a more traditional practice alongside and old hand. It would be a lottery-you may get a new Cambridge grad with little hands-on experience or from Liverpool, Glasgow or Nottingham where they will have a bit more. There is a really high turnover in small animal practice at the moment- lots spending 5 years in uni to jack it after 3 or 4 years. Before I infuriate everyone-I have never heard of Odion Ighalo-and don't see newly promoted Watford flogging many off either. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Saw him play for Watford towards the end of the season looked very good at that level, why would Watford sell him though and although we are an established side he will be in the PL with Watford anyway? | ![](/images/avatars/3377.gif) |

Agree - It's a good job our recruitment isn't based on who I have heard of, or on who's been doing well on Championship Manager recently. Coming here to a team with an established first string striker from another Premier League team where you'll probably start would be a gamble so I too find this one harder to believe ... | ![](/images/avatars/9579.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
