It's been almost two months we secured promotion to the PL.
Although I am happy we renewed contracts with Faurlin, Green and Hill and can understand we also have room for Zamora I think we should have assembled our squad more than we have up to now getting into pre season games.
Yes, we got Ferdinand which was on the cards for a long time, but Fernandes and Co stated in a Press conference they made two lists with targets for both scenarios either staying in the Championship or promoting to the PL ahead of the Wigan game.
Now I don't want us to pay over the top wages and make the same mistakes under the Hughes reign one would have expected we had done some business by now.
My choices were F. Campbell and G. Thorne.
Hoping we will sign Caulker and that Ajax striker today so they can start to gel with the squad and play games together.
The proces of gelling a team together must not be underestimated and is vital before the season starts, don't want to see a opening season again like Swansea at home where it looked players never played together before.

With Remy still floating about like flotsam, Zamora can still come off the bench for 30 mins, Rio I think will galvanise us t the back and brings a wealth of experience for the others. The agents will all be poolside on cocktails holding out for another 24.48 hours trying to screw a bit more out of the Club so no bad thing if we are playing hard to get too.

We're letting lots of young talented players go or stay at their clubs — Ince, Bryson, Fer and Thorne are just a few we should have gone after properly but are not. I don't think we're about to sign Eto'o and a bunch of 35-year-olds, but nor do I think our squad has anything like the depth needed to make a decent fist of the Premier League next season.
The centre of defence isn't in bad shape with Dunne, Hill, Ferdinand, Onuhua and — potentially — Caulker, and our wing-backs are pretty solid. Granero would be like a new signing and I'm not completely against Collison, but we are weak in central midfield, and a forward line consisting of one capable striker and a 33-year-old who'll play a handful of games just isn't going to score enough to keep us in the division.

Happy we are not letting players take us for a scandalous wage, but being a newly promoted team we need to set a deadline for players to sign or not and then move on.
Caulker wants to weight up his options? Fair enough for him, but he should be told that we are revoking our contract offer on Wednesday if he doesn't sign it.
Likewise with the Icelandic striker, we are supposed to have a list of targets for each position of need, so move on.
It's not the end of the world if we haven't done our transfer business by the start of the season, but given our fairly kind earlier fixture it would be nice to get off to a flyer this time... | | | |

I'm relatively happy we haven't signed lots of players yet!
tbh, I sort of hope we don't sign many players before Aug 31st.
I'd like Caulker and Sigurdsson. Both fit the bill, young, hungry, something to prove and resale value. If Remy is definitely off, then I'd like us to get Deeney too. That would give us a decent 3 strikers plus BZ.
As yet, I'm not sure we can say one way or another whether lessons have been learnt or not.
Clive's article about Ferdinand is spot on. It's not the route I want us taking and I'd rather we hadn't but it may actually work out as there are differences to Bosw*nker, et al.
I'm reserving judgement.
I am still a little worried we're going to see "Crouchy", Van Der Vaart, Defoe, etc, etc, pitch up on deadline day, which is exactly what I don't want to see. That would undoubtedly show no lessons have been learnt and HR was irresponsible in not getting us prepared in advance.
However, sign Caulker and Sigurdsson this week, stick with the rest of the squad, maybe with one more striker and midfielder signed ahead of the season, providing they fit the bill, and I'll be happy.
Let's wait and see. Calling for us to be doing loads of deals now misses the point about previous mistakes as much as leaving it late. We shouldn't overhaul the team that came up. It didn't work last time, even if that was done late. |

When I can understand half of what you go on about most of the time, I think it is perfectly acceptable to discuss what you like on a forum but that is not what gets my goat - discuss all you want but some need to change the record.
I just cant understand how some people, year in year out, come on here during the closed season crying that we have not signed any body after the window has only been open for less than a month and despite what some one else said above after my initial post its still not like that much business has actually been done in real terms yet for the majority of the clubs.
It's not rocket science.
We are not Man U, nor Man City, nor Arsenal or Chelscum. When they come knocking they pay stupid money for players who are supposed to be "world class" and sometimes they are not worth the money and the big clubs get done as well. So the press make a big deal about a couple of players moving around Europe early doors - players who have been courted all season and perhaps longer and therefore it is no surprise.
When we come knocking at the door of Premier League clubs, in general the player and his agent are not champing at the bit for a move to Loftus Road just based on all the fluff that comes out from TF and Harry. We are just another smallish club, coming up from the Championship, having been relegated the season. The fact that we have Harry is more important than whatever TF has to say, because Harry has the track record.
BUT, and it's a big but, players who are consistently fit, playing regular first team football for a decent Premier League club or perhaps a Championship club with aspirations of their own, those players are not going to come running to Loftus Road because Harry snaps his fingers. So if we get over the first hurdle that we can agree a fee for a contracted player, then we court them, try to convince them of why coming to QPR is good for their career, but I but time and time again the player is being advised by his agent to see what other clubs have to offer and will try to hold out for a good deal and that is why come 11pm on the fateful night, Jim White is sitting them creaming himself as those clubs and players who have been hanging around waiting for a better deal have to piss or get off the pot.

Phillips arrived injured if my memory served me correctly and we ownly signed him towards the end of August.
Its all well and good having opinions and sharing it and having banter on forums, but sometimes you have to sit back for a while and think the process through to understand why you cant just go around snapping up all the players the fans want in a couple of weeks in July.

- The successful play off final winner is always at a disadvantage. All other 19 clubs in the Premier League this season knew they would be in the Premier League this season weeks/months before us and could plan/start negotiations accordingly. Leicester have known since the start of March.
- Business is rarely done early in July in big numbers, we have this panic on this board every year, and the World Cup always delays things further.
- Burnley have made four signings. Matthew Gilks, Matthew Taylor, Steven Reid and Lucas Jutkiewicz. Would we rather have done that?
- West Brom have signed Craig Gardner , Chris Baird, Sebastien Pocognolim, Ideye Brow and Joleon Lescott while appointing Alan Irvine as manager and letting their best young midfield player leave for pittance. Irvine has alreayd pleaded for patience and time at a press conference and Lescott is now trying to leave just 28 days after arriving. Swap places?
- Aston Villa have no owner, no money, Paul Lambert as manager, a dreadful team to start with, and have signed Kieron Richardson, Joe Cole and Phillippe Senderos. Swap places?
- One of the biggest problems we had last time we rushing around signing loads of players, undoing the team spirit and trampling all over the players who'd worked hard to get us up in the first place. Things only started to improve when those players - Derr,y Hill, Mackie, Helguson - were brought back into the team and then went to cock all over again when they were taken out. Now we're moaning that we're not doing the same again? The team spirit has only just come back to something like where it should be.
- last season Crystal Palace signed so many players in the summer they couldn't fit them all in the 25 man squad. They started the season with nine defeats from 10 games and Holloway left. Tony PUlis came in, largely went back to the team that got them promoted in the first place, nearly won manager of the year.
- we have Phillips and Faurlin coming back, potentially Granero as well, all like new signings. We hardly picked YSY last season but he's in line for a start now, also like a new signing.
- There's still loads of time. Austin and Phillips both came in much later than this.

if i may be so bold , i would venture for the most part or transfer policy has been poor, with little return on huge wages and little if any at all resale value .

Clive , while I agree with a few of your points the main reason people are staring to panic is that the squad at present is 5 signings short of staying up,
we start a pre season tour of Germany which is an ideal time to start bedding in at least a few of those signings , we have under a month to go before we start the season with 1 & a half fit strikers at present, what happens if Austin gets injured pre season ?

I agree Burnley have done poor business (Prem wise) , but they have a strict budget and are sticking to it , they are going for the money and don't care if they get relegated

Villa - I think we all agree they are in trouble , especially with Keane waiting in the wings

That's absolute bollox
I often disagree with Clive and he often comes on here firing rockets at me for moaning at people moaning the whole time.
There are loads of people agree with other people all the time on here but because I choose to make a tongue in cheek, and not a tongue in arse, comment about Clive being able to articulate something with facts to counter the moaning better than I can , you stop talking in riddles for two minutes and try and act the smartarse.

ive long been an advocate for less signings and cutting our cheese cloth commensurate to a club that averages 18,000 punters .
if i may be so bold , i would venture for the most part or transfer policy has been poor, with little return on huge wages and little if any at all resale value .
ive never clambered for a plethera of signings, was very happy to be linked with fer, caulker, laccelss, bryson . leicester and burnley have strengthend, have we??

Not bothered really.
We need another striker and will get one before the season starts, probably this Ajax fellow or Hooper.
We could use another defender but have Ehmer fit (he's a monster) and Harriman getting better at fullback. So we have Simpson, Harriman, Dunne, Ehmer, Ferdinand, Ned, Hill, Yun, with Traore and Henry to fall back from midfield if needed to cover.
Ehmer can also play the holding midfielder role. It is his time. Unproven at PL level but undoubtedly physically well up to the job.
We needed another midfielder who can create and Granero is staying. So that is sorted.
Green, Barton, Ferdinand, Dunne, Hill, Zamora - all add experience through the spine and in the changing room.
Phillips, Hoilett and Traore can all fly past people on the flanks
Faurlin and Granero can create
