My understanding of it (which could be completely wrong) is that it is okay if they go straight through the Championship into the Prem (or indeed they may have two years if the FFP is a 3 year cycle?). So if Birmingham get promoted, expect them to throw bucket loads more cash at it next season and distort the price of Championship strikers even further (but we might get Dykes back on the cheap). |

Not disputing any of the points you are making. But how then can we reconcile that with the lung-busting run he made to be on the end of Frey's dispossession and lay off v Luton. That came from a long punt forward and he was playing as a left winger at the time? He looked decent that night - where has that player gone? |

In the meantime, we continue to play a number of players out of position at LB - only at QPR |

then two come along together. Obviously a significant amount of time on the training pitch has been spent tightening up, which is now paying dividends. As I recall, this was the first step Marti took last season too, cutting down on our concession from corners and gradually from general play. I suppose he might not have expected to go back to basics again, but clearly he has. More gratifying today, was that (a) it was achieved without JCS and (b) it was not a 'backs to the wall' defensive display like last week. Of course there is a frustration that we could not beat 10 men for the second tie this season. But for me there is a world of difference between not being able to put away an average Plymouth side and a Sunderland team flying high at the top of the table. Unfortunately we are missing Frey big time (albeit a slightly improved showing from Celar) Yes Marti could have been braver today with his attacking options, but I am not overly concerned as, I feel it may be a return to his more pragmatic approach, which dug us out of trouble last season. It's a solid point today, two solid points against against two genuine promotion chasers. I'll be quite happy with two more in the next two. Baby steps in the right direction I feel. |

Seriously? We are 2nd bottom. Haven't won at home this season. They are TOP. Second clean sheet in a row. Let's get real here. Decent point [Post edited 2 Nov 17:53]

SAFCin peace seems like a reasonable bloke with well-balanced views, but sorry not having a supporter from another club start our match thread. We have feck all left without losing that. So dodgy lineup, no JcS again! And Kaito on the bench along with Shephard. But no point starting a match thread and being negative. So with Clive's November optimism still ringing in my ears - 1-0 Smyth to score. Cmon you Rrrrŕrsss [Post edited 2 Nov 15:58]

Nice lads I'm sure, but their super-confidence only increases the desire to give them a bloody nose (metaphorically speaking of course) This is exactly the kind of game that our damaged little team excels in - or maybe true to current form we will be spanked. [Post edited 1 Nov 22:49]

I know he was dire last week but where is Fox? Unless he is injured not making the squad when our only other left back (cos the club fooked up during the summer) is out injured. To me it looks like Marti has completely lost the plot and has thrown all his toys out of the pram. Difficult to see this ending well. How the he'll did we go from what we doing at the end of last season to this in 10 games! We weren't looking for much, just a non relegation battle season would have been nice. Instead we have this sh*t show and are a laughing stock of a club (again) |

That's completely untrue. He pulled the ball back FOR Morgan. If anyone mishit the ball it was Morgan - delighted he did though, and for him |

Probably that. But Marti could also have been trying to get Saito further up the pitch by bringing on the Newcastle lad. Thought he was excellent first half, but penned back in the second. Thought Anderson was decent when he came on. Dembele's regression is alarming |

Very much NOT the same squad, which is a significant part of the problem |

When my sister retired, I said you must really miss that Friday evening feeling. 'I do a bit' she said, 'but I love my Sunday evenings' |

Mentioned this before on a different thread, but it would have to be sitting in a pub in Galway in 1986, watching the second leg of the League Cup semi-final surrounded by Liverpool fans and them initially being amused and ultimately won over by my joy and jubilation. A feeling not shared by the bar manager, who chucked me out for 'over exuberant celebrations' It was a pity the final never got played as I feel we definitely could have won it. |

It's really down to the ability of the manager to adapt and change. The best in the business in the period that I was most invested in the beautiful game as a whole were, Brian Clough, Malcolm Allison, Bob Paisley, Gordon Jago, Dave Sexton and Bobby Robson and later Terry Venables. More recently, Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger's teams would have been able to adapt to any given tactics or style. |
