I was derided on another thread earlier this year when there was a managerial vacancy elsewhere for suggesting that McNulty may be in the frame for that job. Managers come and go though and professional footballers just get on with the job in the vast majority of cases. My only worry is that the longer serving members of the current board don’t have a great track record in managerial appointments BJ excepting. Hendo as caretaker? |

For what it’s worth Pete O’Rourke is now running with the story. |

First of all well done to the club for the Remembrance Day tribute before the game. Silence also impeccably observed and Littleborough Band playing “Tipperary” was quite moving. Ryan East was deserved MOM and he seemed to have more freedom today, especially in the first half, with Henry playing deeper in a tweaked formation. And East managed to be perhaps the smallest person to score a header at the Sandy Lane end since Billy Rudd performed the feat against Mansfield virtually 44 years to the date. If Dale had conceded that goal there would have been harsh words on here though. The team was immeasurably better with TAR on the right and there was some lovely link play from Gordon and McBride to give him crossing opportunities. However….for the third successive home league game there was a feeling that BJ isn’t getting an optimum performance from the team. We just don’t seem to throw bodies into the box early enough. The introduction of Hendo improved things; Dennis looked off the pace. Like the Halifax game today was down to effort and perseverance. You can’t fault the players for commitment or spirit. |

Interesting one today. Their recent away form is pretty impressive. Nice to see injured players coming back to fitness. |

Can’t really make head nor tail of the latest events in the Gigg soap opera. A respected volunteer has been sacked by the CEO and a board member before being reinstated and a press release issued stating that this had been a mistake? More action off the pitch rather than on it yet again. |

Coventry have sacked Mark Robins this morning. Perfect fit for Burton hopefully? |

Whatever your views on the style of football Dale owe BJ a massive debt for keeping the team going in the close season of 2023 and up to the end of 2023/24. If Burton are looking for someone to make them tight knit and difficult to beat he’s probably not the man. If they want a manager to play modern, possession based football he’s ideal. |

Is Pete Wild free and available? |

Brian Barry-Murphy is available. Our fan base is divided. Half love Jim McNulty and I suspect some of the other half would drive him down to Burton. |

Did I read somewhere that entry is free for the game against Manchester United later in this competition? That might boost the attendance? |

Oscar Kelly starts the game on the bench. |

Or even visit Halifax? The Shay is a pretty dismal place on a Tuesday night in February. |

I suppose that this is a sign that we’re in a better place than last season when BJ wasn’t able to sign reinforcements when injuries hit. The resources and the willingness to do so are obviously there now. |

I was thinking along the lines of someone like Birmingham who scraped past Sutton this afternoon. |

It might also be a good thing if Oldham got a plum draw in the next round. Anything to distract them the week before! |

At least we now know what to expect when the game is eventually played from the long throws of Mr Tonks. They’re as good as a corner. I suppose there’s little point in trying to bring a league game forward to fill the fixture gap? |

There were plenty of moans after the Southend and Braintree games about a lack of goalmouth action. Well, that one could have finished 6-6 or 7-7. Both keepers pulled off some fine saves and the Bromley goal seemed to lead a charmed life in the second part of the first half. We simply can’t continue to give opposition teams an easy start to games to games though either through sloppy defensive errors or a sluggish mentality. Today certainly raised the bar though in the long catalogue of defensive howlers. I thought BJ got most of his substitutions right but I’m beginning to wonder about the plan of trying to defend a lead by bringing Ferguson on as defensive kingpin and shifting Hogan to the right hand side. It didn’t work against Halifax when they equalised with a header and it didn’t work this afternoon. Previously this season the plan has been to bring on Armstrong in place of the left wing back. That might have settled things down a bit more successfully instead. Whilst obviously disappointed by the result I think we would have beaten most NL teams with that sort of attacking intent today. After the first four minutes anyway. Good to see the average home gate maintained anyway. And a lot of the squad men should get a runout on Tuesday. |

We might do well to reach an aggregate attendance of 2500 for the next two home games. |
