I wonder if Cech and Federici are being hounded out of their clubs by the fans this morning?

We've all made mistakes in Asia. Whatever happened to "What happens on tour, stays on tour"?

Oh yeh we love a boo boy. Green is merely fighting for the title ahead of Zamora at the moment.

Are we going to buy a new goalkeeper every week (and I don't discount that given the rumours)?

I suggest we give him a chance.

Again, because he has two years of excellent performances with us to fall back on whereas Green doesn't. I don't see why this is a difficult concept to understand.

Cech makes error - well, can't argue with what he's done for the last five years for us.
Federici makes error - well, can't argue with what he's done for the last three years for us.
Mackie makes error - well, can't argue with what he's done for the last two years for us.
Green makes error - I don't think much to this new goalkeeper.

Why cant we take into account his performances for previous clubs ? he hasnt just landed from Mars .The truth is that many had a pre-conception of him because of one error with the whole nation watching
Torres goes to Chelsea and cant hit a barn door . Apart from delight from the likes of us no one really believes that he was sh*t all along .
The pre season mistakes were misunderstandings in his first handful of games with players he had known for literally days .
Ok he made a mistake Sat it can happen to any keeper in their first or in the case of Kenny at the Etihad their last game .
Last week in response to the Top 4 betting thread you used the treatment of Cerny as an example of the LR lynch mob . This week on here is stoking the fire for a repeat.

Call me Mr Naive, but are sure that the pursuit of Cesar only started on Saturday evening?

Paddy did not want to be No2 to anyone and asked for a transfer. That leaves Cerny who is nearly entitled to a bus pass and Brian Murphy who has played about 20 odd games in threes years outside of the Irish League.

In the same way we had probably been going for Dawson, Carvalho and Bosingwa before the Opening Day slaughter occurred.

So business can be done early doors and other deals ultimately get strung out until the last few hours as the clubs play cat and mouse over fees.

Poll: With no leg room, knees killing me, do I just go now or stay for the 2nd half o?

OK, Green's our player and until/unless someone else is signed he's first choice ahead of Cerny, so we should back him if only in our own interests,

BUT

In cricket if a class batsman with good technique keeps getting out stupidly [e.g. Bell a couple of years back] it's usually down to lack of concentration. They get a few chances - as should Green BTW - but if they don't change they get dropped and told to work on it. Green did not get to be England No1 without showing good technique but he keeps making ricks which suggests to me he lacks the ability or nerve to maintain concentration. Maybe he needs confidence boosting but just maybe he needs someone to make it bloody clear he's on the verge of pissing away an international career needlessly.

Well whay I can't understand is, why if (and I did say IF) the rumour regarding us looking for another keeper, no matter whether it's Cesar or not, is true then why should this reflect so badly on RG?

After all we've signed Onhua, Nelson, Ferdinand and re-signed Hill, yet everyone's in agreement that we at least need backup for these players.
If for arguments sake we were to sign Dawson or Shawcross, does that mean we're undermining the confidence of any one of those others?
No it doesn't, so similarly by getting in another keeper we're just strengthening the squad.

It's then up to the players and management to decide who in their opinion is best for any particular game, surely?

Just to add I don't agree with booing or moaning about any of our players whilst their on the pitch as we all know LR can be pretty daunting for opposition and it can't do any good to hear your own supporters getting on your back.

Well it seems the plan was not to let kenny go but he chose to, and a number of players including Cerny got auto contracts as we stayed up, so I'm not sure its panic buying. We managed to get through January to March of last year with a keeper who would not / could not dive.

I suspect quite strongly that Green is carrying an injury he was not diving around too much in the warm ups. Therefore it makes complete sense they we get another keeper in and one who is going to challenge him for his place.

I agree with you on the lynch mob, which is why I said it would happen. If it wasn't Green it would be somebody else.

There's also the question of our unfortunate record of past dealings with West Ham in the transfer market.

Over the years West Ham have made a habit of robbing us of excellent players like Phil Parkes, Paul Goddard, Trevor Sinclair and Andrew Impey, while lumbering us with dross like Tim Breacker, Iain Dowie, Danny Gabbidon and Kieron Dyer.

But the last goalkeeper we got from them was Ludek Miklosko, who at the time was a vast improvement on what we had. Also worth mentioning we didn't sign Green, technically he was a free agent.

Fair enough, I was just pointing out that we don't tend to come out well when we go shopping in that part of London.

He's made four bad mistakes - one on Saturday, one in Asia and two against Ausburg.

Against Augsburg the goals we conceded were a penalty conceded by Ryan Nelson & an own goal caused by Ferdinand.
Piszed as I was, I still saw them.

The penalty came as a result of Green making a complete hash of a cross and handling it outside his area.

The own goal was headed past a goalkeeper who'd come miles of his line once more either without calling or without being heard.

Both very poor goals for a goalkeeper to concede.

Talking of activities outside the area, this is Rob Green getting sent off against Blackpool earlier this year (about 1 minute in):

A free kick came about because he handled it outside his area.

How do you know he wasnt ignored for the second goal .

You can cut him, some slack if you really want to

Look I'm cutting him plenty of slack. You won't hear me signing Paddy Kenny's name at matches or yelling abuse at Robert Green. I want him to succeed. I'm worried he's going to be hounded at matches. I'll be supporting him. I said all summer that supporters had daft expectations of the team this year and players would get it in the neck if they didn't live up to those and it's begun already.

But whichever way you slice it he's been at least partly responsible for four really bad goals so far in his time with us. I don't know what his problem is because he was excellent last year for West Ham and has no reason to be lacking confidence but it is a fact that he's conceded four really bad goals.

The own goal is Ferdinand's (not his biggest fan either) fault primarily because he made the decision to head it towards his own goal but Green is culpable too whether he called and wasn't heard (not calling loud enough), called and was ignored (defenders don't have confidence in him) or didn't call at all (tit). Whichever it was he'd taken up a lousy position for a ball that he shouldn't have been coming for.

Your post a few days ago when you wrote (paraphrasing but you will remember it)

Just seems to carry a different message ?

I think we have broken him! He worked perfectly at West Ham last year and now he doesn't. It's like he had some sort of mental breakdown on the Hammersmith and City Line on his way across or something.

Looks devoid of any confidence. IF we do sign Cesar, he's hardly someone you'd be confident could step off the bench when called upon and get the job done.

There's no reason for him to be lacking confidence though. I just don't understand.

I wonder if a rousing chant of 'one Robert Green' or something along those lines could be arranged.

Well he dropped a massive clanger on our bells and whistles shirt selling tour knowing that people would be watching and then dropped two clangers at Augsburg. If i were new to a club and had dropped 3 clangers before the season had even started, i'd be lacking a bit of confidence too.

Ok . I read it as broken him(down)mentally.

If you meant he was working and now he is busted (broken) then I take your point .
