Listening to the commentary I thought - where is it?

North London to most, but its North West London really, so that would make it West London, but north a bit.

Or, is it Middlesex?

Middlesex, no argument as far as I’m concerned.

Gentle Brent, I used to know you
Wandering Wembley-wards at will,
Now what change your waters show you
In the meadowlands you fill!
Recollect the elm-trees misty
And the footpaths climbing twisty
Under cedar-shaded palings,
Low laburnum-leaned-on railings
Out of Northolt on and upward to the heights of Harrow hill.

It's definitely in once beautiful Middlesex

Wembley is in Middlesex and always has been, still has an out of London post code. It was brought in to London when the council was merged with LB Willesden in 1965 to form Brent Council, pissing off Willesden residents. They were all rich nobs the north side of the River Brent and North Circular Road.

You've contradicted yourself there! How can it be in Middlesex when Middlesex no longer exists except in Royal Mail's systems? (arguably not even there as postcodes made the county redundant as part of an address).

HA postcodes can't be described as out of London as almost all are in London boroughs.

Willesden is much more expensive than Wembley now!

It's constantly referred to on TV as north London.

It fkin' well ain't.

It's postcode is HA9 0WS. This puts it west of what is already considered NW London

Therefore, Wembley is north west London or probably West North-West London.

This is North London, HA9 is not even close. TV commentators (or the auto-cue writers) are thick as pig$hit.

The historic and geographical county still exists. Only the Middlesex County Council was abolished in 1965. The Middlesex flag was flown over Downing Street on Middlesex Day. Wembley remains in Middlesex, as does Willesden and other historic boroughs.

Aren't Rangers the nearest club to it , hence the walk to Wembley.

Spot on, 6.2 miles from my HA9 home to Loftus Rd - a little less to the Stadium though coming up the Harrow Rd anyway, probably 5 miles.

Edit... Actually, from our house to Loftus Rd was 5.19 miles as the crow flies.

A county is a geographic and administrative area, therefore Middlesex has not existed since 1965.

Yes the geographical county does still exist and you are right Willesden was once in Middlesex. As was everything on the north side of the Thames from Staines in the west to the river Lea in the east, including the two major cities of London and Westminster. Middlesex County Hall is in Parliament Square. Incidentally, showing my age here, I can remember some school books in infants/junior schools(?) having MCC stamped inside the covers.

I'm certainly showing my age by saying that I remember my secondary school books (Copland Sec Mod, Wembley, Middlesex) having the Middlesex County Council logo.

Middlesex has a history that spans well over a thousand years, to 704 AD - the Middlesex County Council was created in 1889 and abolished in 1965 - Parliament has confirmed, on numerous occasions, that the administrative County of Middlesex was abolished but not Middlesex.

I’m still willing to take up arms to take back the occupied territories - Staines and Ashford.
