Ross Stewart Transfer To Southampton Is Now Confirmed
Friday, 1st Sep 2023 23:33

Earlier reports suggested that Ross Stewart had failed his medical at Southampton and that the transfer had been called off, rumour and counter rumour came thick and fast over the last few hours but now it seems that the deal is done.

Sky Sports news have confirmed that Southampton have completed the signing on a 4 year contract of Sunderland striker Ross Stewart, shortly after other media outlets were claiming that the deal was dead in the water after he had failed his medical.

Although Saints are yet to confirm Sunderland have revealed that Stewart has left the club for Southampton

It is assumed that it is on the deal mentioned yesterday of £8 million down with £2 million of add ons.

Stewart is said to be around 3-4 weeks away from fitness as claimed by Sunderland Manager Tony Mowbray earlier in the week, given that after tomorrow there is two weeks before the next game, that means that he won't miss as much football as that timescale sounds.

Given that Che Adams is staying at the club it has been a good day for Saints in the transfer window and they now will have a potent strike force, perhaps the most potent in the division and it will be interesting to see if it is bolstered by Kamaldeen Sulemana who now seems to have not moved during this window anyway.

I hope his fitness will be ok - apparently was due a behind-closed-doors at Sunderland very soon - because he is a dynamic player and prolific scorer.
Congrats to SR who have brought in a lot of class and talent, many of whom will be top PL players, hopefully with us!! The players who wanted out - Sulemeena, Adams (?), ABK, etc are still with us. ABK will be playing Champions League footie but only on loan with no option to buy so will return with top level experience.
I feel happier now than a couple of weeks ago, looking forward to automatic promotion and a strong, experienced and, dare I say, talented team to cement our place back in the PL

Good signing and keeping Che is also a bonus. Early rumours of Ross Stewart failing the medical were always going to be dubious as I’m sure Saints medical team would have thoroughly researched his fitness etc before sanctioning his move. Rumour started by FootballInsider, which seems to have a hidden agenda as far as Saints are concerned - never have believed their so-called “scoops”.

I find these so called football journalists and insiders a pain in the back side. They know little more than we do and just fly a kite in the hope that one is correct and say "you heard it first here" Cheap lazy journalism. Keep up the good work The Ugly Inside.

Really well done Saints for negotiating a really difficult transfer window. We appear to have a very competitive championship squad and keeping Alcaraz, KWP and Adams is an unexpected bonus. Not quite sure what Onuachu and Djenepo will contribute but I think RM is the sort of manager that will pull everybody in the squad together.

The last injured player we bought, Agustin Delgado, turned out to be a total flop. Hope this one is more successful.

Dell, to quote Father Ted after Jack's fawning apology to Bishop Brennan 'now THAT'S sarcasm'. Cheers for that 😀
