Bony Move Unlikely?
Friday, 28th Jul 2017 08:50 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

It was reported that Manchester City had given the Swans permission to talk to Wilfried Bony around a week ago. But from what I am hearing it is unlikely that the Swans will be in for their former striker despite his seemingly imminent departure from the Ethiad Stadium.

Bony scored 34 goals for the Swans in 18 months in South Wales before completing a record breaking deal to take him to Manchester in January 2015. However, in 30 months in Manchester he had made just 15 Premier League starts and had just 10 goals to his name for Pep Guardiola's side.

He was loaned to Stoke last season but scored just twice - ironically both against us - and now seems set for a move with paper chat linking him heavily with a move back to South Wales particularly with Chelsea keeping up their interest in Fernando Llorente.

But much water has passed under the bridge since Bony left Swansea and I am not sure that there is any truth in this story and believe that if Llorente were to leave then we would be looking elsewhere for a replacement rather than looking back into the past.

Bony was a great player for us when he was here but we also shouldn't lose sight of the fact that he has played a very minimal amount of football in the 30 months since he left and, as a player who is already 28 a kick start of his career is badly needed.

Given we have already added Tammy Abraham to our ranks and also have Jordan Ayew I cannot see Bony getting the week in, week out games that he would need to get that kick start working effectively and therefore for me this one is a non starter.

I'm not sure Bony's future will even be in the Premier League and suspect that come the end of August we may well have seen the end of him in English football.

Great article indeed, but I won't completely agree with you. The Swansea way was ideally suited for Wilfred Bony and they allowed a free reign to some degree as they played to his strength's where Man City did not. Man City have to many great individuals and as a result the team suffered a great deal which is evident for all to see. The major attribute at Swansea City is built around working as a team which is the Swansea way, but the quality overall with regards to individuals is good compared to most but not quite up to that of the top six clubs. What the good individuals do at Swansea is they do the good things built around the team's ideology and work ethic to bring the success they work so hard at!
Bony is still a good player if not a better one now after his experience at Man City, and went a player like him has something to prove then that is going to be a great asset to ever gets is signature. You only have to look at Gylfi to get my point. A couple of weeks working with the team will bring Bony back up to speed. He's a natural goal scorer and they are hard to come by!

This article seems to be Based on wishful thinking on your part.
There's nothing wrong with going back to a past player.
If that were the case we shouldn't have re-signed Leon then.
How have we moved on since then?
We've gone backwards.
Ironically we need to keep Siggy to partner Bony otherwise he may not be as effective as per his first spell here.

In what way have we moved on? Based on last seasons results we taken a major step back since Bony left. Have to agree with jojnjubal1958 about teamwork and I think that should Bony return we'd apadt to his strengths again.

Can't agree with your 'going back' comment either. Didn't we go back for Gylfi and Leon?
Based on last years efforts I don't think that Ayew has it in him to be a quality goal scorer who would provide 10/15 goals a year; he hit the net once last year , the same as Rangel and with more minutes on the pitch.
