Thomas Tuchel Could Be The Man For Saints !
Tuesday, 30th May 2017 19:15

After being sacked by Borussia Dortmund Thomas Tuchel is being linked with a move to the Premier League and Southampton could be a logical step for him.

Thomas Turchel parted company with Borussia Dortmund after falling out with chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke after the team bus was damaged by an explosion before their Champions League quarter-final tie with Monaco in April, with the Tuchel claiming that he wasn’t consulted as to whether they wanted to play the game the following day after it was postponed.

This was despite winning Dortmund's first trophy in five years in the shape of the German Cup and leading them to 3rd place in the Bundesliga.

Tuchel took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2015 and lead them to 2nd place in his first season followed by 3rd this and the cup win, but by then relations with the CEO were beyond repair.

The German media is linking him with a move to the Premier League, but with all the main jobs bar Arsenal rock solid at the moment, it is the Emirates that is being mentioned should Arsene Wenger not agree a new deal.

However the media is also saying that perhaps Southampton would be a better fit given the stage his career is at at present.

They are saying that firstly Tuchel has been used to working with young and up and coming players players both at Dortmund and Mainz beforehand and St Mary's would be more the type of environment he would be suited to than Arsenal and the fans expectations.

They are also saying with the proposed investment with Chinese group Lander Holdings in the pipeline this would make Saints attractive to Tuchel and that the club itself would be looking for a marque appointment to show that they mean business.

Finally the German press are also suggesting that although Tuchel is destined for higher things, he is not quite ready for the Premier League with one of the big boys, Saints would be the ideal opportunity for him to show that he can handle the pressures of England etc.

Perhaps that is not what Saints fans want to hear, but with the average life span of a Premier League manager barely two years at the moment and Saints rarely keeping a manager for longer than that in a quarter of a century, the prospect of Tuchel taking us up a knotch and then moving on should not be seen as a bad thing it would mean he has kept moving us forward and we had continued to progress.

This would be a brilliant appointment! My only concern is why would he come to us? The board haven't made a good account of themselves with their handling of Koeman not to mention Puel. I would be doing a lot of due-diligence if Saints approach me to become their manager.

How is this any different from Pellegrini, Benitez and others?

We had very good options last summer and they all went begging away. Anyway let's see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure a decision would have been made by then. I was thinking the Huddersfield manager was more realistic but as he's got promotion to the EPL it's very difficult seeing him leave.

Our last three managers have all been out of work when we signed them. Coincidence ?, I don't think so. That bodes well.I'm at the point now that it has to be ABP (ANYONE BUT PUELL)

I was half an hour's drive to the east of Dortmund from Friday til Monday and not only played 2 games out there, but I watched 2 games as well - our FA Cup final and the German Cup final.
I spoke to many Dortmund fans on Saturday and Sunday and the general consensus was that they were more worried about losing Aubameyang for 80-100 mill, than their manager. Yes he had fallen out with Watzke, but nobody thought he would leave. He was well liked by the fans and they were happy with 3rd and the cup win, despite finishing 2nd last season. I suspect many are suffering from shock since the announcement.

He would certainly be a marquee signing for Saints, show the level of our intent and with his German league contacts, could help sign some decent, young and exciting talent currently playing in Germany.

I want this so much I don't wanna think about it.
The wall of silence will most likely kill it off...

Yes please!

Although unlikely to work with Les Reed after his perceived problems with the Dortmund board who, lets face it, are probably nicer & easier people to work for / with than those that currently run our club, particularly on the football side.
