Saints Eye Replacement For Wanyama Tuesday, 12th Apr 2016 21:43 With the rumour mill starting to pump out the Victor Wanyama to Spurs rumours again, Saints could well look to cash in on the Kenyan but they already have his replacement in mind. Saints were considering signing Idrissa Gueye from Lille last summer, in the end the Senegalese International opted to join Villa for £9 million and probably regrets that choice now with the Midlands club about to be relegated. But Saints could be back in for him this summer if Victor Wanyama decides not to sign a new contract, all the indications are that will be the case and that Spurs will again be sniffing judging by the sudden surge in media speculation. That speculation is being fueled from somewhere and unless Wanyama puts pen to paper in the next month or so it is likely that they will be resigned to move him on. That will see a mixed reaction from Saints supporters, on his day Wanyama is one of the best defensive midfielders in the country, but the reality is that when he is good he is very good, but when he is bad he can be a liability. There are those that will say that is more down to his attitude after being unsettled by Spurs last August, but the reality is that in his two previous seasons Wanyama was not always first choice with at times Jack Cork being preferred. So although most Saints fans would prefer Wanyama to sign a new deal, it will not be the end of the World if he doesn't, he has missed too many games this season to be as much of an influence s he really should have been and his departure will not be as big a miss as it could have been. Gueye looks the ideal replacement and it could be that Saints will look to make their move early doors once the season has ended, Villa will need to cut their costs next season with the issues surrounding the club off the field and could be open for a swift deal.
