So, a load of us were unable to attend today due to a firm old friend getting married. A fair few grumbles when the date was announced but duty calls. Anyways, phones are in hand as we tuck in to the wedding banquet, we're one up and getting good reports from HQ. The best man, an ardent Hoop, is half way through his speech when the final whistle blows. Word comes through of our memorable victory and the Polish club on Gloucester Road erupts into a frenzy. The bride (of no fixed allegiance) and her family look on aghast as a fairly sizeable section of the wedding goes absolutlely postal. Chants are sung, champers is sprayed and the wedding dissolved into carnage. Guess you had to be there but f*ck me it was fun!
Thought it was a given we'd win it. My Grandad, who was there in 67 etc, said to me at the Wembley replay in 82 'this is the last time you'll see us here'. I took great delight in reminding him of that and he took great delight in taking the piss at the final whistle despite his dissapointment.
Other than that 6-0 to Arsenal in the cup, Vauxhall Motors of course, and many ohter times, but hey ho we're still here.
