....from BBC Sport "Second-placed Essex will be sore that they effectively had to play a vital top-of-table fixture with 10 men due to the absence virtually throughout of Jordan Cox, who left the field early on day one feeling unwell. Cox has since had an operation to remove his appendix but ECB regulations allow a substitute only for concussion victims. Perhaps Cox’s full involvement might have made little difference, particularly on a well-grassed pitch that encouraged the seamers throughout, but the 23-year-old came into the game heading Essex’s championship batting averages with 763 runs at 69.36." Not just me who think it's unjust then? |

Sorry to disagree but if you can replace a player if called up to another team why not replace a player who is unfortunately unable to play. Its hardly a con to want to replace a player who has an operation overnight. He didn't actually have any involvement apart from fielding first innings. So because of a crazy rule we play with 10 men only when batting both innings and lose a player who is averaging 70+. And to add insult to injury we lose to Surrey by 140 runs. Nuff said! |

Thanks Noah; understand your comments. Strange though in 90 minute soccer five replacements are allowed. In 4 day cricket, no changes allowed even in emergency, I e. appendix operation on a player who is top scorer in the division. Crazy! |

Top of the table clash Essex v Surrey. Overnight first day our leading batsmen is taken ill and has operation on his appendix. Rules apparently state that players can only be replaced with "possible" concussion symptoms. So because our man had an emergency operation overnight this is not as serious as possible concussion? For the rules to make us play against the league leaders without our best batter and ten men is disgraceful. Bet Surrey are having a good laugh. Hopefully this very unfortunate situation will bring about a change in the law; too late for Essex though. |

Difficult to understand the amount of U's players being wanted by other teams. Are they not aware that the team as a whole escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth? |

Many thanks for all the time and effort you obviously give to this task. Something will be missing late Saturday nights for a few months now. I'll try harder next year, honest |
