Ownership of QPR
at 20:47 21 Nov 2024

Brian, agree with you most of the time, but not on this one. Where is your evidence that Thompson was "asset stripping"?

Selling a high value asset to balance the books and then replacing with a well scouted lower league replacement is as far away from asset stripping you can get.

I am 100% behind the theory that team was on the verge of greatness, but even if he had pushed the boat out and succeeded; it'd have been for no more than one season. When the money rolled in, the much bigger clubs got the impetus they needed to blow upstarts away and we would have been a casualty anyway.

Yes, we might have had a season for two, but the demise was inevitable unless Thompson's correct model of sell one asset every season and invest well in replacements would have carried on.

Of course for me the biggest travesty was that period genuinely saw us overtake that blue lot from SW London and even though their crowds were around 15,000 in the mid eighties, they were far better placed to be taken to the next level than we were.

That hurt, still hurts but not quite so much as falling behind the other two local small clubs and Palace.

Dress it up all you want, but it has NEVER been as good as it was under Thompson and probably never will be.

Cannot believe this post had any down vote at all. It is spot on. Yes, we were close to greatness, but why should the owners have ploughed more money into us at that point? Not like the riches on offer today were there for them back then

They balanced the books.

Boring, but we stayed at that level for 14 years and my god we were respected and liked throughout.

I'd still settle for owners balancing the books like that. If only this were the same club.

Controversial opinion, but the same happened with Richard Thompson and we've never, ever been so consistently good as we were under him.

And yet there are still plenty who don't see how stupid that was...

No he isn't, but why would he want to come back to this basket case of a club after seeing it first hand?

After 12 or so years they have been in charge, you'd hope that the board members might have actually made a few contacts in the game who they might actually be able to trust. But clearly that is not the case as, apart from chucking the money in (deep, deep thanks for that!), what have they done in the last couple of years?

Ferdinand failed in his remit, so had to go, but did they sack him? Nah, they let HIM make that decision. Similarly Hoos was a busted flush and just, well QPR'd so he had to go, but did they sack him? No, they let him "step aside".

Face it, they are NEVER at the games anymore and are not pro-active in bettering this club. A "hostile" take over from someone else with deep pockets is teh ONLY way out of this and I do not see any volunteers - you?

Sad.

9 pages in.

Are we "mobilised"? What's happening at the Stoke game then?

Nothing I guess. NINE pages of hand wringing and "woe is us" and still nothing happens.

Listen, I get it - I am hurting like the rest of you; I WANT something to change. Its not the manager though, that's been tried. We've also tried changing the CEO and the DOF and still no change. Which leaves the owners. The real problem.

So, go on hound them out and then let's wait and see what circles round the carcass of this club of "ours". It'll be worse I promise you.

Its easy to say "let's mobilise, let's change". But identifying WHAT you want to change, what you want to replace it with and then making it happen are far, far more tricky.

And, pre-empting the "well at least we're trying something" defence, well you really aren't; all you are doing is expressing angst on a message board screaming about how unfair it all is and how the club is being run abysmally.

All true. Every word.

Maybe I am defeatist, maybe I am a realist - dunno, but being shite really, really blows.

Good luck to anyone who can do something; please step forward. The rest of you, I am with you that things HAVE to get better, but have no clue how.

Five pages into a thread of "Woe is us" and not a single, tangible, appropriate suggestion on what we can actually DO about this.

"NOTHING" comes to mind unless anyone posting on here has the funds and the knowledge...

Well what is YOUR actual plan then? Like the rest of us, shout and boo at them a bit and hope that they sell up to the massive queue of investors waiting as a result of "Project Big Ben"?

Not your problem is it, who takes over, who cares, as long as this lot f off, but don't take their £1m a month or whatever it is with them?

I mean WE hounded Richard Thompson out; can anyone actually believe that we have been ANY BETTER off since he left? Really?

Have an opinion all you want and like me, you are p'd off to the extreme, but if this lot go, what is YOUR Plan B?

It is like others have said on this thread - those that are sustaining this club are also killing it. These owners have utterly disappeared without trace - they literally NEVER turn up at games and are hardly banging the drum. We are actually lucky that they care enough to throw their money at us to keep us solvent. WHEN you get your wish and they f-off, I hope that you can pick up the pieces 'cos I don't see anyone else willing to...

Loads of good words and good research, but the apathy all around our fanbase (me included) leads to the question "so what"?

What are any of you prepared to do instead of raise this stuff on the internet hoping that the big nasty owners will go "oh, they're right all along, let's sell up to the next multi-millionaire who is a fan and wants this sh**e?

We hate losing, we hate the fact that EVERYONE has gone past us and is accelerating off into the sunset, we hate the fact that the current owners could not organise a p up in a brewery and our strikers could not score in a brothel. Its tough, I get it more than most - as mentioned a few times on here, QPR makes me pessimistic to the extreme. But wtf are we going to do about it? Get The Athletic to write an article about it or interview our now invisible ownership? If we do that so what, what is the winning situation? Ruben reads it, goes "ah fck it" and leaves the club to find the £1m a month or whatever it currently is so that it can SURVIVE?

Ah, "there'll be SOMEONE out there who wouldn't let the club die". BLLX absolute BLLX. If there was such a person there, surely they would have already been in touch - Project Big Ben and all that. They have not. It is telling. No-one is interested.

Reuben is losing PIN MONEY on us and it is keeping us afloat - THAT is the reality. Let's get him to sack off EVERYONE that he has employed to give this a go. All of them. Let them all go, because he is going to build a new, better club.

What absolute tosh.

None of you like it. I HATE it. I'll bet Reuban and Nourry aren't too happy about it either. BUT WHAT IS THE VIABLE ALTERNATIVE PEOPLE?

We are stuck and as always, we have to keep things crossed that they have another "Warnock" moment that actually endures more than 18 months this time.

Unlikely.

We're going to be another Charlton at best and probably and Oldham, Bury, Chester or Swindon.

Football has changed and we are now so, so far behind where we need to be.

Leeds Utd Reflection

I like Smyth, but he was shite today. Effort, yes, energy yes, but a distinct lack of ability.

Varane and Saito did well.

The rest of them did not.

Coming out if this game, I heard all sorts of shite about who he could have played and who he should have played. Ffs people, that was the ONLY team he could have put out.

This squad is utter dogshite under the surface. Unfit for purpose to compete at Champ level. No fit LB, one striker ill equipped to cope at this level as a lone striker, one fit CB who could play in a back 4, no decent RBs except a CB used last season to plug a gap. No or very little physical presence to compete.

To be fair they tried their best today, but were just worse in every single department to a multi million pound team. I don't doubt that they try; they are just not very good OR they are simply not suited to our club.

Whoever it is who is liable for ending up with this squad can f off even if this is simply the reality of us finding our level, which is one division below where we are.

As with most games over the last 3 or so seasons, the hardest thing is that Leeds are poor and still barely needed to get to second to outclassed us.

We really are shite.

Team for Saturday now…
at 22:11 7 Nov 2024

Kolli, Lloyd, Smyth, Celar, Madsen.

F me, shoot me now.

Not even L1 quality between them.

...and my lack of a positive attitude has been pulled up on here tonight.

Jeez.

If I did not have another reason to be there this weekend, no way would I subject myself to being surrounded by 35000 Happy Dirty Lids fans. I was there when Ainsworth scored a great goal to go 1-0 up to then watch Brian f**king Deane score 4 in a 6-1 defeat. Surely something similar is coming our way this weekend?

Shambles of a club from top to bottom and back up.

Slightly good news is that Paal is unavailable.

That is REALLY good news irrespective of who is there to replace him...

What's the consensus for this weekend? Lids declaring at 2, or is this going to be the absolute shellacking that is coming?

Madsen, Celar, Santos
at 06:59 6 Nov 2024

Let's add in the fact that we finished that game with Smyth, Lloyd, Anderson and Kolli on the pitch. Utter shite all of them.

This squad had money spent on it, but is far worse that last season's one, which, frankly was one of the worst the Championship has ever seen.

Injuries have ravaged that to include players like Santos, Madsen and Celar, who probably aren't L1 Standard.

JCS, Frey, Colback would certainly strengthen this eleven, but JCS aside are hardly top class champ players are they.

Has a very distinct smell of relegation around the place. Effort or Application a problem, but not the main one. Talent is and there a'int a lot of that around.

Yet again, top to bottom root and branch transformation needed and the ONLY place to do that is to consolidate in the league below. Not ideal and we could turn into a Charlton and end up there forever or even fall further, but currently we are being outclassed again constantly at this level.

Glad I was away and could not be there last night.

Rotten club. Not even half competitive. They strolled around, put on a big of a spurt, went two up, then strolled around, we get one back and they decide to turn it on again and accelerate away.

We end with Kolli, Lloyd, Celar and Smyth on the pitch and Nourry is probably wondering how they haven't split the lines with their high tempo press, deep physicality and perceptional psyche.
C**t.

Broken club. Broken fans.

Who's joining me in Leeds on the weekend?

QPR HOME FORM FOR LAST TWO YEARS
at 19:44 4 Nov 2024

Absolute shite, aren't we? That is godawful no matter how you dress it up.

Since Richard Thompson was ousted, the club's decline has been shocking. Three good seasons since 1995 - one after the club literally collapsed on itself leaving Olly to get us back to this level despite having just 7 pros at the beginning of the season, one following a Warnock masterclass combined with lots of money and then the least convincing of the lot, a massively financially doped whimper through a spawny last minute Zamora goal.

Other than that, it has been shite.

We've been going home and away pretty regularly this season now and my lad just asked "How many games is it since we saw a QPR win live?"

TEN games. A typical QPR run.

Love 'em, but that's abysmal.

Of course it's quiet.

We've been utter toilet at home for a long while now. The team needs to step up and give the crowd something to be noisy about.

It didn't seem too bad to me though and people stayed 'til the end...
