On the one hand, I think there is a lot of nostalgia for "great" England teams and campaigns that isn't really justified. Great memories and moments yes, but both Italia 90 and Euro 96 involved only two good performances, each time against Holland and West Germany/Germany. In more recent tournaments we have played some crap teams and come up short against the decent ones every time. In short, we aren't all that good and never have been. On the other hand, it is plain to everyone watching this borefest that Southgate is playing some players in the wrong position. I think Bellingham has been over-hyped (not that he isn't class) and is being indulged by playing wherever he fancies. Foden, who has done ok in my book, is being played out of position, TAA is never a midfielder and Gallagher isn't international class, so the lack of game time for Cole Palmer is a mystery. He did way more in half an hour last night that TAA and Gallagher did over the 3 matches. All of that said, QPR is the only team I really care about and it's nearly fixture release time! Best: Howard Jones. Wembley Arena. April 1985. Worst: Howard Jones. Wembley Arena. April 1985. That was enough for a 15 year old taken along by his mate and his mate's mum. I liked Howard Jones but clapping along to New Song while Jed mimed his way around the stage and my mate's mum danced along put me off live music for life. There must be more to it than that embarrassing night out, but it's just not for me. [Post edited 25 Jun 13:12]

Good post. I know intelligent people who read the Daily Mail and don't see it for what is so patently is, i.e. feeding its readers the kind of hatred and fear mongering they absolutely lap up. They will even quote "news" from the Mail to me as proof of their point and there is no point even trying to give them an alternative point of view as they view their rag as gospel. These people include my mum and my dad, long divorced but as one when it comes to their love of the Tories and the royal family (with two notable exceptions), their loathing of Sadiq Khan and their dislike of minorities of all kinds. |

In fairness to him, Andre Dozzell has done one thing for us - he has made us all agree on something. He should be proud of that. |

I had a similar thing with Liverpool in the 80s. QPR have given me so much joy (and even more pain) but I don't recall celebrating any of our goals in my youth as much as I celebrated Mickey Thomas's goal to win the title at Anfield in May 1989. I had no time for Arsenal but that goal was pure ecstasy and I went mental, such was my hatred of Liverpool. However, that was surpassed when I watched us beat Arsenal 2-0 in January 1990 from the East Paddock in the pouring rain. The video of Sansom's goal and the collective intake of breath as it arrowed towards goal and the roar as it crashed into the net still gives me goosebumps. As for Aguero, I have mixed feelings as I never like us to lose but I wasn't unhappy at the time as I had JUST heard we were safe before he scored. [Post edited 15 May 8:54]

Do NOT watch Triangle of Sadness, recently released on Netflix. A promising start quickly goes downhill into the most incoherent pile of sh*te I think I've ever seen. The last hour looks like it's been edited by a madman in a hurry. Dire. |

This. I could spend a lot of time on here ranting and raving about all things Liverpool but you usually spare me the effort. As for Klopp himself, I didn't used to mind him, and even quite liked him, but he has a very annoying habit of smiling, or trying to look like he's smiling, when things aren't going well on the pitch, as if he can only laugh at and rise above the injustice unfolding before his eyes, when he is plainly fuming. If we win tomorrow the last thing I will do is keep tabs on scores on Saturday as we will finally be free of this waking nightmare of a season. |

I'll take that over a 12.30 kick off, which is very rarely good for us. |
