My understanding is that SFC did not do anything for Chris Nicholl as they were concerned that it would stir up a hornet's nest in regard to the Bob Higgins sexual abuse case, Chris was manager of the club from 1985-1991, the time when most of the allegations were centred on, there had been a lot of stuff in the media and a report that found SFC had failed to act on the situation at the time. The feeling was that if the club had given a big tribute to Chris it would have brought much of this up again and impacted on his family. So it is harsh to blame the club over this, in fact it is the opposite, they had actually been very sensitive to the situation and Chris's family and not opened a potential can of worms for them as they grieved their loss. As far as im aware his family knew the situation and they have not criticised the club publicly. However so I'm also told the when the Nicholl family wanted to hold the wake at St Mary's they were quoted the extortionate price that everyone has to pay. That is not Sport Republic's fault, just those who run the catering side of the club, who showed no real knowledge of the club or its history |

My silence is deafening because I havent heard anything about a boycott for either game, nor have i spoken to anyone who has mentioned it. The nearest is people moaning about the price of the cup game and saying they won't go. So if there is a boycott for Sunday's game it hasn't been much publicity about it nor any momentum, I have just googled and looked around the internet and can't see much. If people are moaning about paying £30 to see the cup game, it is going to be a hard task asking them to not attend a game that they have already paid for in a season ticket between £27- £50 ish for. |

Dave Watson was a great player, the most surprising thing about him though was his playing career, up to the age of 24, one season aside he had never played above old 3rd division level, he then joined Sunderlandwhere he played 5 years of 2nd Division football, only coming to prominence in the FA Cup final of 1974 He joined Manchester City and played his first top flight game in August 1975 a couple of months short of his 29th birthday, although he had been given his first England cap a year earlier. He joined us in October 1979 aged 33 and played this season and then the next, in his 3rd season at the club, he was dropped early in the season and replaced by Malcolm Waldron and then went to Stoke then also a top flight club, he eventually retired from League football where he began at Notts County then in the 2nd Division aged 39, then played non league for a few years. Only played 73 League games for us and although not at his peak, was still a regular in the England team Dave Watson was a great player in what was essentially a short time at the club, so perhaps not a club legend as he was at Sunderland & Man City, but a good player just the same. |

I agree with most of what you say, but I dont think a team needs 8 £30m players to survive, it needs to be well drilled and organised and have bought 3 or 4 key players. If you want to do better than 4th from bottom, then yes you need to have 8 £30 million players and then you can compete for the 8th-10th spot, but what do you get for that , if lucky Europa Conference League, if not you spend a lot of money to finish mid table and then eventually you buy £30 m players who are not very good and like us and many clubs before you end up relegated. The only way forward is for the so called big 7 to depart the Premier League for a European super league. I will be tucking into Beef on the Big Day, ibve seen enough Turkey shoots this season |

Im happy that England won, especially when so many people dropped out, a really good build up for the first goal, Bellingham was unlucky to not get credited with the goal and a superb finish from Curtis Jones for the 3rd. Perhaps there was an attitude of playing without fear from the players in the squad, they didn't have to please Lee Carsley as he will be gone for Tuchel, so the slate will be wiped clean from next week |

Ive been a critic of Pickford, but I agree with you he was good last night and a contender for man of the match in terms of a solid consistent performance throughout the match and a decent save or two thrown in |

Not a bad game against Greece tonight 1-0 to England but could have swung either way |
| Forum Reply | Is the suggested Liverpool Cup boycott having an effect ? at 10:48 14 Nov 2024
I cant understand why people are getting so het up at the ticket price for this match and talking themselves out of going. £30 isn't a bad price for the game given that it is a quarter final, 9 years ago for the same round it was £18 and a year later for the semi final in the same competition it was £25. So £30 for this season for an adult is probably about the same price as the £20 back in 2015 if you take into account inflation etc and £10 for under 18's is very good value and cheaper than back then, Whenever we get an important game it seems that there is always someone ready to complain about the price of the tickets and make an excuse not to go due to the fact that we will get beaten. The slim chance of glory doesn't come around very often, but when it does people expect to get in cheaply or they won't go. Sorry but this happens all the time, remember Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final back in 2018 , same thing happened 10,000 empty seats in our section because people were moaning about paying £50 and when it was pointed out there were plenty of tickets at £30, the excuse was they were too high up, We are meant to support football teams, not constantly find an excuse not to go, back then a few people bleated about the price of tickets and before you know it everyone is bleating and talking about boycott's If we can't sell our tickets then why not give another 5,000 to Liverpool and see if they can sell them, another £150,000 into the club's bank account might help save someone's job in the office in the summer when they are trying to cut costs after relegation. |

1982- Nottingham Forest at the Dell 1-1, in front of 18,178, Forest took the lead after 14 mins and then Steve Moran from the penalty spot in the 59th minute for the equaliser, we had been in the bottom 3 t this stage since the start of September, this was the 14th game of the season and we had 15 points |

When Taylor Harwood Bellis marries his fiancee he will be none other than Roy Keane's son in law...I had forgotten that Keane had some managerial experience so perhaps he could do a job here. I wonder whether Erling Harland will reignite the vendetta between the Haaland & Keane families next time we play Man City |

I preferred Porto to Lisbon although if you are staying for longer than a few days possibly Lisbon might be a better option . Air Portugal were doing a good deal with regard to stop overs, ie fly to Lisbon or Porto and then on to another destination after a few days stop over |

Yes he will probably itching to manager a Premier League club, but he doesn't really have the track record, a lot of academy coaching and a few stints assisting the Dutch international side, but only one season as an actual head coach, at PSV where he resigned after one season citing a lack of support. |
| Forum Thread | 5 Things About Wolverhampton at 09:55 11 Nov 2024
1. The trains between Oxford & Banbury were stuffed, luckily we went via London, but I believe it was absolute chaos. 2. It is far easier if you are going by train to break the journey at Birmingham for a drink or two, rather than try and find a welcoming pub in Wolverhampton. 3. Wolverhampton has to be the most unwelcoming place in the UK, the people seem to revel in being dour & unfriendly, the last smile by a local was in 1994. 4. The away section is appalling, it is the entire length of the pitch and means that you cannot get any sort of cohesive backing for the team. 5. Having said all this Molyneux isnt a bad stadium

| Forum Thread | Bizarre Incident At Molyneux at 09:32 11 Nov 2024
As the game entered the last minute of injury time at Wolves, we decided to head for the exit to make an earlier train. IN the concourse we were greeted by the sight of about 100 or so Saints supporters trying to get out of the ground through a single turnstile, with a Wolves steward refusing to open the exit gates saying it was club policy. As more Saints fans started to leave, he still refused to open the gate and things started to get heated, there were Police there who just stood around and watched, speaking to one of them he said it was nothing to do with them it is the club who decides. The steward started to taunt Saints fans a little and this notched things up. Just as it could have turned ugly, the final whistle went and the absolute **** of a steward opened the gate and people poured out. Not sure what this was all about, what was the big thing about letting people leave through an exit gate

Ralph Hasenhuttl was sacked as we went into the World cup break, that did not prove a good move, its a little different this time in that there is a 2 week break looming and not a 6 week one, but if we lose to Wolves we will go bottom do you think this might be a catalyst |
| Forum Reply | Brighton Charged £25 For Their Liverpool Cup Tie at 22:53 7 Nov 2024
Exactly my points, it would have been nice, but it isn't that much dearer than what anyone else is charging as I have said elsewhere, the same thing happened when we played Chelsea in the FA cup semi, the internet was full of fans complaining about the cost of tickets and when it was pointed out that there were tickets at £30 up in the upper tier that they were too high etc. They forgot about the only thing that matters to moan about and that is a lack of success, we get a sniff and lots of people have to find something else to moan about |
| Forum Reply | Southampton V Liverpool Carabao Cup Ticket Details at 22:50 7 Nov 2024
The tickets are only being sold to those who are on the data base, so the club is doing all they can to stop that happening, if any Liverpool fans do get in it will be season ticket holders that will have bought it. To be blunt if we can't sell this one out, we can't moan about Liverpool fans getting in. With Saints it is always about the perception, we got 31,000 for the game in 2015 and now we will struggle to get 25,000, it's like the Chelsea semi final, the fans talked the game down and moaned about every small thing on the internet, but forgot about the thing they moan about all the time, ie the lack of a chance of success and when that came we had 10,000 empty seats which was the biggest embarrassment in my 50 years of supporting the club. If people don't want to watch the game thats fair enough, everyone makes their own choices, but there will only be Liverpool fans in our seats because Saints fans won't have filled them. This isnt a moan at Cocklebreath just the whole situation |
