The Board of directors now need to wake up. The pitch condition ain’t going to magically improve in January and February. In Rochdale it will be cold, or wet, or both. Always has been, always will be. Failure to understand that the pitch is deteriorating is, a failure of management, one for the board to be held accountable for.

Fans could see last Tuesday the problematic area, but the club knew best, the Board knew best, as ever Simon Gauge knew best. But, what was apparent last Tuesday, and we got away with on Saturday, it wasn’t fixed and it came back to bite us, again. We have Oldham next week, hope for the best eh Simon?

We now have a problem which is getting worse, because on 21st December - minimal rain postponed the first Boston game. Not enough was done to resolve the problem, questions like why was only the centre square relaid? Finances? Well that’s false economy now. A poor decision Simon - or did he just hope for the best? Hope for summer to arrive in January?

For too long Dale fans have tolerated Gauge and his race to the bottom leadership, it needs to end soon. Come on Cameron, you can see it, surely, he and his self serving cronies need to go.

Yup, same here. So far I’ve spent over £300 on not watching this game. Non league and we know we are.

It’s funny how people see the game differently , and that’s how I saw the first half - we started the game slowly, then got into the game, clearly causing problems on the left wing, but with no edge in the six yard box. We then started to try to pass the ball into the net. Yeovil were poor, really poor but as the first half wore on we gifted them two great opportunities to score through footballing in non footballing areas which we were fortunate they didn’t convert.

The second half, we got better and they got worse. The result was fair in the end. Yeovil turned up resenting the long trip north in the hope of giving us a game, that’s what their coaching staff were saying loudly in the Norton Grange on Friday night. That attitude got them exactly what they deserved.

The second part of my half time post was about the attendance, which given we haven’t played at home in a Saturday since November was poor and we are probably further away from 5,000 home fans than when the idea was announced. Something I’ll be asking the Trust to raise at the forum.

Don’t worry James, it’s not rained since. But this snow is annoying…

It’s a fair point, Kel, it’s where we are now, but you wouldn’t be worried about a pitch inspection with the usual January rain - anywhere - except Rochdale. Let’s hope last nights heavy squall doesn’t mean the next communication is “Pitch inspection at 10:30”.

Drive up from Essex despite woke weather warnings, read comms from club saying- no inspection (who does that!) so bought ticket. Now leathering it down - hope the damp patch is covered 🙄

Back to the subject of the thread. Looking at the forecast, the pitch is going to get another test on Friday.

So - TS - How did today’s performance measure up in terms of your call to arms?

I suspect we have indeed, as you’d hoped we wouldn’t - expired without knowledge….

Typical Dale - we do better when we’re not playing.

The sooner we clear out Gauge and McNulty the better.

I’d be interested to see your calculations on that valuation. Obviously you’ve taken into account abnormals, eg demolition? Your appraisal would need to allow for developers profit, fees, dpi, S106/CIL contributions, based on a scheme which would get planning consent. Having taken into account likely GDP of a site in a low to middling value location for Rochdale - you run the site through any developer appraisal model and come up with any positive value - I’d eat a pie with my pint in the Ratcliffe.

“a new start” Does not equal a financial turnaround. Proper financial stewardship with people who understand how to promote a product does.

The sooner the Ogdens bin Gauge and the current board the better. Putting Gauge in front of a relocation - honestly how do you think that would go??!

I would argue strongly against moving to a new ground because I don’t think any business plan to do so would stack up.

I think asking the question now when we have problems with the playing surface misses the point, which to me is the fact that over the last five years our club has been mismanaged, on and off the pitch.

Spotland is cited as having poor public transport links, is that right? When the ground is a 20-25 minute walk from the town centre, a town centre which is served by pubs, rail, tram and bus links and has hotel accommodation. The ground has ample parking within a mile, on street and at Oulder Hill. It could be improved with shuttle buses and so on, but that applies to any ground.

I stopped going to Shrewsbury when they moved ground, used to be a great away trip, now it’s a logistical puzzle.

If anyone thinks a local authority will grant a planning permission for a new ground with a large car park, they can think again. Ask a Brighton fan.

Let’s not conflate the problems we have with the playing surface with the disastrous leadership the club has had, crowds haven’t grown, not because of where Spotland is located, but because successive boards have disregarded fans as customers, compounded by relegation and at best inconsistent home league form.

Moving ground is a red herring, let’s focus on getting out of this dreadful league as fast as possible and delivering the Ogdens three year plan.

Seems the season has been disjointed since the Bromley capitulation. Micky Mouse cups, Rearranged games, postponements. Last season we ended up with a winter break and I recall our season fizzled out thereafter. Hope Jim has learnt from the experience…
