| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Carabao Cup Verdict at 15:13:33
Colburn, your post sums up everything I have been thinking about refereeing at Southampton games. Game after game there is a blatant refereeing 'mistake' in favour of the opposition team. I'm certainly not suggesting it but if one was cynical, one could almost believe that the referee was somehow benefiting financially from the mistakes he made which went in the oppositions favour. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Newcastle United The Preview at 14:17:41
I hope we don't put out the same team as we did against Getafe. There was absolutely no creativity from midfield. I like the look of Ugochukwu, who is not playing today, but I see him as more of a defensive than creative midfielder. This still leaves us short of creativity in the midfield leading to fewer chances for our strikers. I think McCarthy kicking long might not be such a bad idea. |
| News Comment | Southampton Sign Forward From Aston Villa at 22:12:52
Maybe everyone above is a ' glass half full' type. I thought maybe I was wrong so I went back to Youtube and had another look at Archer. No, I still think he is different to but about the same level in terms of goals, as Che. Russel Martin has stated he is 'a player with potential to improve' is that a reflection of the level he is at right now? Nick I agree with you, Yes my pulse isn't racing right now. At the end of the season I would love to hold my hands up in the air and admit, 'Yeah I was wrong' On a positive note, Brereton -Diaz really does look Premier League, I think he will be an astute signing, our best to date this window. |
| News Comment | Maya Yoshida Is Back At Southampton at 13:52:01
There was no doubting Yoshi's commitment and loyalty to the club. Yes, he made an error or two but I think all Saints fans have a soft spot for him. I for one truly appreciated the effort and commitment he gave to the club. |
| News Comment | Saints Said To Have Agreed Terms For Striker at 11:23:10
I agree with all the main points of this article. He is another 'one for the future' ,he doesn't have a great goal scoring record and that doesn't fill me with confidence. Everyone has pointed out that we need a proven goal scorer who is going to hit the ground running. If we don't score goals we won't win games - its as simple as that. |
| News Comment | Watt View - Fantastic win but Jones need to focus on football at 11:53:36
I must admit to being surprised by this article. Of all the issues with getting the team tactics right and returning to winning ways that our club has, surely how the manager chooses to respond to personal criticism doesn't need a whole article dedicated to it. On the back of a glorious win (and I'm still buzzing), why would you choose to disparage our manager for taking the opportunity to redress the criticism that so many pundits and armchair pundits feel they are qualified to give? To be honest it comes across as whingeing. One swallow doesn't a summer make, I know that, but the signs are there that Nathan Jones can make the changes that we need to return to winning ways. So lets get behind him and make it easier for him to do what he needs to do! |
| News Comment | Three Days To Go To The Season Will There Be A Southampton Transfer Shock ! at 11:37:39
I'd be really pleased to see Moussa Dembele in a Saints shirt probably more so than Broja: I really rate Broja but we know we would have him for 1 season only and then his value to buy would be out of our range. Whereas Dembele is also a very good striker (albeit in a different mould to Broja) and he is available now at a good price which we can afford |
| News Comment | Southampton On Verge Of Signing French Striker at 13:03:38
I watched his youtube highlights, I can't say I was overly impressed. I was left thinking, well, we already have 1 Moussa Djenepo....... But lets end on a positive; The coaching staff probably think he is 'one for the future' and we have an experienced striker coming to the club soon :) |
| News Comment | Southampton Complete 5th Signing Of The Summer at 10:08:34
5 new players and of course we are all hoping for a sixth up front. Not all will walk straight into the first team or at least not straight away and perhaps that's no bad thing; trying to assimilate 5 or so new players into a team will take time. One thing is definite though and that is we are again strengthening our squad, providing cover and competition for most/all positions. Remember remain calm we are not going to win every game from the off it takes time to gel the new players. Now where's that new striker? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester City The FA Cup Verdict at 21:11:15
Most of the above seem to be of the opinion that Broja and Che should have started. However if you look back at the game you will see that the speed that Adam Armstrong and Shane closed down the first pass out from the keeper was much much quicker. This gave us a substantial advantage that we lost when we changed AA and Shane for Broja and Che. Adam Armstrong has phenomenal pace next season he will be putting those chances away! With Salisu I think he is that big commanding Center Back that we've been missing since Van Dyke. His decision making needs to improve, that will come with experience: bite the bullet and move on! Its small margins, remember we were a gnats whisker away from being 2 all at one point. That could have changed the last 15 -20 minutes. Then we would all be scratching our heads asking how our tactical genius of a manager does it? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Watford The Verdict at 12:59:20
My 11 year old son was really excited before hand to be going to the match. During the game he turned to me and said, "This is an utter disgrace". I actually felt embarrassed. I've seen us lose to very good teams when you could not fault our commitment, effort or team tactics, you could still stand up and applaud the performance at the end, this wasn't one of those games. |
| News Comment | Blackburn Confirm Interest In Michael Obafemi at 16:11:50
I think Obafemi has the odd goal or two in him but that's just not enough at this level, I agree with those that say it would be better for him and the club if he re-started his career and the championship would seem like a good place to do that. I've watched him for the last season and his improvement over the season was negligible. Michael, best of luck go to Rovers and kick on from there. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Athletic Club Of Bilbao The Pre Season Verdict at 15:16:38
There were positives to be had from the Athletico game. Romeau was outstanding, Salisu looks strong and quick and is improving all the time, a faultless debut from Tino that left us all grinning....there were also performances that weren't so good; Imo we never looked like scoring. Shane Long has been a wonderful servant for the club; I hope he can make up the half-a-yard he's missing at the moment; we'll see. The penny hasn't dropped for Obafemi; will he suddenly 'click'? he's leaving it late if he's going to. That puts a lot of pressure on Che and he's not a prolific scorer neither is walcott. So for all our possession we need that 'natural' goal scorer in as soon as possible - its goals that win games. |
| News Comment | Southampton At West Ham United The Verdict at 10:19:47
Congratulations to Saints legend, Jose Fonte, for leading Lille to the French League title, with the best defensive record in Europe. I wonder if he can cap that by winning another European Championship with Portugal this summer? Dirk_doone, I couldn't have put it better myself. I wonder if the irony is lost on some.... |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl's Faith In Che Adams Is Paying Off at 14:44:43
Its good to see Che smiling at last! His hold up play and support for the lead striker have come good - very good actually. His scoring is also good but I really do think we are going to see his goal scoring go from strength to strength. Theres still more to come from Che. |
| News Comment | Saints Still Have Options To Buy An Experienced Central Defender at 11:52:49
No one is saying we have a good defence, a quick look at the stats will disabuse anyone of that notion. 2 clean sheets isn't a run that points towards form, especially against 2 teams that if we are going to beat anyone, its them. There certainly is an argument (made over and over again by some) that a good organiser in defence could make all the difference. Jose Fonte made every centre back pairing work! You only have to consider Dejan Lovren to see that. Those organisational skills normally come with experience. So, Yes, our defence certainly could benefit from a more experienced leader in defence. Although a few names have been put forward we don't seem to have identified anyone or pursued anyone of that calibre. |
| News Comment | Saints Stronger After Transfer Window But Again Did Not Address Key Area at 12:34:44
Nick Looking for a leader in defence? Now I remember a fella, what was his name? ah thats it Jose Fonte! Now there was someone who truly new how to organise a defence. whatever happened to him? Oh, Yeah after proving himself on the international scene he asked for a pay rise and got shown the door.... |
