The grey shirts were the season before the 6-3 when we won 3-1 and were 3-0 up at half time. Monkou put us 1-0 up early on, Shipperly doubled our lead after about 20 mins then Le Tiss got the third just before HT. United changed from grey shirts to blue and white vertical stripes for the second half. That game was played in April 96 so near the end of the 95/96 season but then only 6 months later we played them again at home in Oct 96 and won 6-3. Berkovic opened the scoring even earlier than Monkou had the previous season and for the second season running we had put 3 past United by HT (3-1). They started the game in the same blue & white stripes they changed into the previous season so as the HT whistle blew it seemed like the whole ground were singing ‘Have you brought a change of kit?’ at Alex Ferguson as he trudged from the dugout on the halfway line back to the dressing room. To this day one of my favourite Dell memories, there was simply no answer to the chant. |

Agreed ST - and it might not even be Z list goons, it would not surprise me if much of their content is A.I. generated which is entirely possible these days and would require minimal human input whilst taking garbage articles to a new level of bullsh#ttery. |
| Forum Reply | Edozie leaving at 15:07 4 Sep 2024
Agreed Nick, I’d also add that the City youngsters we have purchased to a large extent are far from failed players, if they were, they would have either been released by City and left to find themselves a non-league club or given a free transfer to somewhere like Rochdale, Stockport or Accrington. In a lot of instances the likes of Lavia, Edozie and Delap (who has just gone to Ipswich) just find their paths to 1st team football blocked due to the quality of the players ahead of them and at a Club like City that could be the go-to first reserve as well as the first choice player therefore moves away are the only way for those players to continue their development. It doesn’t make them failed players. I wish Sam Edozie all the best at his new club and hope he does well there. The better he plays the bigger the offer will be when it comes to making the transfer a permanent deal. |

Football disciplinary and appeals boards absolutely love / hate previously set precedents. This is now most definitely a new precedent now well and truly set - it could actually be good news for us if we happen to fall foul of the same set of rules at some stage as we have had a couple of spectacular spending sprees by our standards as well as one redemptive window when we were relegated. But with the other loans that have needed to be at least serviced I do still worry about season 22/23 being within the three year period for PSR. |
| Forum Reply | Sulemana Tipped For Loan Move To The Netherlands at 20:03 3 Sep 2024
There is a possibility that we might be stuck with Sulemana until January according to a couple of media sources who are reporting that Ajax might not have got the paperwork fully submitted in time. Why Clubs leave things so so late is beyond me - the excuse given in this instance by Ajax was they would only take Sulemana on loan if Bergwijn completed his move to the Saudi Pro League which did eventually go through but maybe not in time for the KS paperwork to be submitted. See story on this link: https://www.southamptonfc.news/transfers/kamaldeen-sulemana-transfer-twist-emerg |

And not only £400k a week but tax free if he stays for two years minimum apparently. Gets a bit complicated if it’s not all it’s cracked up to be and he wants to come back to the PL early and play proper football again but if he can hack the lifestyle changes and the Mickey Mouse football then it is certainly big bucks to be earned for a bit of a sacrifice for a relatively short period of time. |

Can you imagine training if we’d kept Alcatraz and signed Balotelli?!? 😮 Perisic and Martial could be good as would Matip if recovered properly from the injury and was fully fit. Wages would be the stumbling block though… |

| Forum Reply | Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict at 16:50 2 Sep 2024
1885 SFC, I have just been reading an article where RM explains (post Brentford defeat) why Tyler Dibling isn’t in the starting XI and you are quite right when you say RM is giving the players that got us promoted preferential treatment but quite a way into the article (as it is primarily about Dibling) there is just a small chink of light at the end of the long dark tunnel that we seem to be in that indicates that possibly, just maybe, RM has seen the light - although in the final sentence he gives himself a bit of a get out clause as it will be his opinion as to who ‘is in the best place’ but I am going to stay positive and keep my fingers crossed that he has now realised that he needs to forget about last season and start playing his best XI 🙂 The article says: Martin went on to explain that the players who got Southampton promoted have deserved their chance but admitted he can’t afford to be sentimental, adding: “I hope people understand that the guys in the team have been amazing for us. So there’s a level of credit that they’ve built up. “But now, after three defeats, it doesn’t really mean much, unfortunately, in football it moves on quickly and now it’s about the best guys on the pitch that are in the best place. | Forum Reply | Ramsdale … DEAL DONE at 16:31 30 Aug 2024
He will have needed to be registered by 12 noon today to be eligible to play tomorrow, so that means all the relevant documentation submitted in full to the PL by noon. As this was announced as a done deal quite early it is a possibility the paperwork will have been scanned and emailed to the PL before the deadline. |

It’s total bulldroppings, the excuses they are making for doing this make no sense. FIFA ,then UEFA, then the FA set their International / National schedules way on excess of 12 months in advance. For example, UEFA will already have the date of the 2026 CL final scheduled and diarised, in fact, just looked it up, it is on 30th May 2026 in the Puskas Arena in Budapest. All the previous rounds / dates are similarly diarised that far in advance so the cartel are fully aware of their European commitments / dates for this season and next season as well assuming they qualify. The real reason is the Football League are petrified that the top six / eight clubs will withdraw from their competition so they are bending over backwards, and then some, to keep them sweet so they don’t follow through with the veiled threats to abandon the competition because if one goes the rest will follow. Closest to date is Liverpool after the Football League refused to budge on the date of a League Cup game when Liverpool were away at the World Club Championsip or playing in the Super Cup Final (can’t remember which) and they ended up playing Villa at Anfield with basically a third team. The veiled threat has been there ever since so the FL now let the cartel roll over and tickle their tummies. New draw rules started this season. VERY low profile launch to this, kept it as quiet as they could for as long as they could but now it is dawning on everyone everywhere. I can imagine similar conversations taking place on dozens and dozens of fan sites as everyone else has now realised they too have been shafted, royally. Bloody stinks. |

Did more positive things in the last 10 minutes than the majority of the rest did in 90 minutes. A couple of the final passes didn’t quite make their intended destination but he didn’t give up. Will probably get a full game against Cardiff in midweek but then back on the bench no doubt for the next League game. |

Same starting XI as up at Newcastle last weekend. McCarthy, Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens, Walker-Peters, Downes, Smallbone, Airbo, Ben B.Diaz & Armstrong. Ugochukwu & Fernandez both make the bench along with Archer [Post edited 24 Aug 14:01]

I could see this coming - especially bearing in mind the two Saints mascot’s initials collectively make them The SS! So, me and a few of the London Saints are going to start working on digging a tunnel out under the fanzones. A few of the dozen plus new players who can’t get into RM’s ‘settled side’ (his words in an Echo interview this week) have promised to put in a shift or two during the week as from one of the old films I have seen them there footballers dig good tunnels… |

According to some media reports Chelsea are supposed to have instigated this move to their feeder Club - they must of been that scared of facing him this season they have had him moved to another League 😀 Can someone tell Chelsea that Tall Paul is an even better player 😂 [Post edited 21 Aug 17:44]

Sounds a very fair summary ST. I always took an interest in how he fared post Saints as I really liked him as a player and he was a bargain buy at about £1.2m that really came good for us. Really thought he’d do more at Man Utd but he became a smaller fish in a bigger pond at Old Trafford. From what you have said, a lot of what happened at Everton was beyond his control second season onwards. Probably one of his most endearing qualities was he chose to play for us in the Champoinship and then stuck with us in League One rather than go to the Sk8’s who were also after him and a PL club at the time as he thought we were the better club with more future potential!! I wish him all the best with whatever he decides to do next. |
