There was very little that was English about the kings of that period. Most were born in France, spoke French, spent most of their time in France then died in France. Their main concern was protecting their lands in France from the French king whom they owed fealty to. No doubt a campaign in Ireland would have been viewed as an expensive and unnecessary pursuit with very little reward. There was no wealth there, no real resources. Given the choice they’d probably rather stay away but in the 12th century if the Pope says bend over you have to get on all fours. |

Honestly it’s probably the best thing that could happen to them. They’re a fairly small club at this level as it stands. They’ll deny it because they think they are bigger than Barcelona but they’ve been involved in relegation battles regularly over the last few years. Tan clearly doesn’t give a toss, they are haemorrhaging cash, I can’t remember the last time they sold a player for any sort of money, they have a poor low motivated squad and a fanbase that have deserted them. We’ve seen clubs like Ipswich and Luton and Southampton and many others drop down to league 1 or below, they start to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond, they get the feel good factor back because they win more games and they come back to the championship in a much stronger position than they left it. |

It is a strange one isn’t it? In his few months in the hot seat “Never here Keir” has not missed a single opportunity to jet off here there and everywhere to be photographed with the world leaders, to present himself as a statesman. Now the opportunity comes up to meet the newly elected leader of the free world and be part of a historic occasion in the reopening of notre dame cathedral and he’s not interested, instead he’s just playing thunderbirds outside number 10 switching on the lights with all the charisma and panache we’ve come to expect from him. Senior royals don’t go on tours or make official appearances without the express permission of government so only one of these statements can be true: 1: Starmer wasn’t invited 2: Starmer didn’t want to be embarrassed by Trump so sent William instead. Both seem likely to me. |

Before Henry II invaded the island of Ireland on the orders of the Pope Ireland had never been unified. Like wales it was a smorgasbord of petty kingdoms and tribes who enjoyed nothing more than knocking the shit out of each other for hundreds of years. If anything it was the Angevin occupation that brought unity to that island that had never been seen before. |

And history has shown us when governments ‘factor in’ immigration numbers they always end up being significantly higher. Every government since Blair has had the cheek to stand for election on the promise to significantly reduce the numbers. All have failed. |

Out of the 2.5 million migrants the Labour budget has accounted for (the real figure will be much much higher than that) in their never ending quest to fill the country with as many people as possible in order to ‘grow the economy’ how many will be highly skilled, high paid workers? Only a small percentage id imagine. So these social/affordable homes that we seemingly have a lack of will nearly all go to these migrants. The growing need for housing will also push up the prices of housing and rent for everybody else. It will be an unmitigated disaster. |

We’ve had too many dirty little mercenaries over the last few years, Whittaker and Paterson also spring to mind. Refusing to play but happy to pick up their several thousands of pounds a week. |

Did you see that absolute moron Angela Rayner talking about houses on sky news the other day? She started off by moaning about a horrendous house crisis then when Trevor Phillips asked her where are all the 2.5 million immigrants factored into the budget going to live she said there’s plenty of houses. Then she starts banging on about newts! |

Well empires are run by emperors, kingdoms are run by kings. We are run by Keir Starmer so we must be a country. |

It might have been colloquially known as such but it was never a principality, not in a legal or sovereign sense. Prince of wales was a self styled title that the lords of Gwynedd used sporadically to set themselves on a bit of a pedestal above the other lords of all the other petty kingdoms, Dyfed, Powys etc. In fact as you are probably aware Wales as it stands today has only ever been a standalone sovereign unified nation for a few short years in the mid 11th century. And it was very much a kingdom not a principality. Recognised by foreign powers as well as the king of England. It didn’t last because of the gavelkind succession laws which splits the lands and titles between all the sons every time someone dies. |

Yes in a lot of communist countries the government does a lot of the murdering and don’t record the statistics accurately. |

Who is the official arbitrator of what is deemed “unsavoury” though? I thought in the new brave world doing something unsavoury was all about “making tough decisions to do what’s necessary to fix the foundations” or some guff. |

Notre dame of course is synonymous with a hideous, hunchbacked, vicious little man who was repulsed at the idea of human contact and brought misery and death to all around him. On a completely unrelated note, why wasn’t Keir Starmer there? Why was William sent to meet the president elect in his place? |
