| News Comment | Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict at 15:55:32
Stop blaming the Video Assistant the on field ref made both of these awful decisions. Stop blaming RM for the lack of goals the last decent striker we signed was Danny Ings and that was a gamble. We had a number shots , none (accepts manning's) was on target. We have two half decent central midfielders at the club , one of them was injured, our lack of depth is telling in that area. The disallowed goal made a MASSIVE difference. The home crowd where deflated when we scored and Wolves would have had nothing to defend. We have been absolutely screwed my poor decisions this season. Top managers would struggle with this side and we cant attract a top manager . So all we can do is get behind everyone at the club and enjoy us getting a result against Liverpool. |

I thought the players did really well against a predictably well organised Dyche team. I'm not saying Lallana was world class but I will defend him. He lost the ball a few times, mainly because he was trying to make something progressive happen. Like his ball to Archer early on. Dibbling loses the ball too trying to beat a player or two, again those are the players that should have licence to lose the ball. As fans we cant complain about possession football and the team not being progressive enough and also complain when we try to be positive and it doesn't work out 100% of the time. Where players shouldn't have licence to miss passes is in defence. The player I wont ever agree with is Jack Stephens . He isn't good enough as a centre half and doesn't have the passing range, speed or technical ability to play at full back. Manning delivered some decent crosses from which we might have scored if any preset in the box. A word on Archer, for the first time I can remember we had two attackers going to different posts, if it wasn't for his run Armstrong would not have had the space to run into to score. I still felt that we were predictable, when will Paul get a start, I'm in no way advocating long balls smashed up from defence but from the few cameos he has had recently he can hold the ball up well and bring others into the game. He isn't Haaland but he is the closest we have and if we insist in playing like Man City we should be giving him a go. Sean Dyche may be mad to think that Bednareck should have been off while Tarkowski should't but he is an experienced Premiership manager and it was clear that he had a week to coach his team to play against our very predicable tactics. It could have gone either way, thank Ramsdale and the bar that it didnt. 3 Points - Up the League we go! |

If sports republic could find a better manager he would have been gone by now. We just need to start scoring goal and we have shown against arsenal and Ipswich that we are capable. Our expected goals are up there we just don't have the finisher , in form to punish teams. Yes , downes made a very uncharacteristic unforced error but we have been much better in defence without captain jack. All we can hope for is that one of the strikers gets a couple and confidence rises. We are not going to be launching the ball up to tall Paul any time soon. |
| News Comment | Southampton Manager Admits Striker Omission Error At Bournemouth at 18:53:42
Frustrating that after encouraging progress against Ipswich and Everton we didn't build. I RM and don't think that he is arrogant. On the contrary he isn't confident enough. No disrespect to Bournemouth but why are you trying to set up a team to specifically address how they play? What team do you try to focus on OUR strengths against. As a club we over think everything. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict at 21:07:03
Goals wise we were beaten by a free kick taken quickly from the wrong position and ANOTHER deflection. All the stats point to RM being unlucky and I'd rather have a lucky manager. You make you own luck , the squad either don't believe in this style of play or believe the universe is against them. Either way we need someone to turn that around. If Sports Republic was Cortese they would have a manager lined up for after the Arsenal game. |
| News Comment | Kyle Walker Peters Giving Russell Martin A Dilemma at 01:21:39
KWP has been a favorite of mine for a while. He has been a great servant was great in the Championship despite probably expecting to be sold. Its frustrating that we cant pin him down but you can understand that that he wants regular premiership football and we haven't exactly shown the ambition that inspires belief that he will get that at saints. He is a right back and being continually relegated to second choice RB must be a frustration. Sugawara has been great coming in and as Dell boy said Taylor is and experienced LB. It seems totally sensible process of phasing him out and the two new fullbacks in. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 10:09:04
Outrageous sack the board! I totally expected us to beat Man U convincingly like we haven't in the last 20 years. Seriously, the only thing I will continue to criticise Martin for is playing Stephens. I totally get that he is trying to build a team and loyalty is part of that, Bella Kotchap doesn't play , because even though he is a better player he hasn't should the requisite commitment , I understand that and even agree with it . I thought signing THB for 20m was great business, is anyone coming in for Jack Stephens? For any price? No one wants him, he is our CAPTAIN. We have conceded 8 goals and if you look he is involved in most of them. He looks good at times but makes a couple of serious mistakes a game. I keep watching the second goal, while other players are rushing out or other players, he is on his heals and calmly watching the shot go past. He leads the team with a stunned passive response. I don't see him talking to players, organising anything , I see him wandering around like he is trying to remember if he left the gas on at home. Positives, because there are some and we didn't really expect to win .. did we?: 1: Dibbling (obviously) 2: Midfield looked so much better without Stephens in it. Fernandez in particular looks like he will be quality. We actually turned with the ball and no one passed it back to defenders under pressure from 2 opposition players. I thought we tried more even if it didn't come off we continued to try. 3: Ramsdale continues to make great saves and his distribution is pretty decent too 4: RM at least noticed the tactical changes that Ten Hag made with changing the press . He made significant changes and gave the players he brought on time to make a difference. Just a Shame we went down to 10 shortly after. 5: RM wont need to decide if he is loyal to his Captain for 3 matches. |
| News Comment | Southampton Agree Transfer Fee For Tall Paul Onuachu at 16:06:43
He was always going to be sold off. It’s not just the fee for FFP but also the wages. I echo the frustration that he never got a chance but he was never likely to this season either. The growing frustration is with the system of play. Diaz and Armstrong are both strikers but it doesn’t look like they will get the opportunity to play in that position . It’s no coincidence that after 3 games our only scorer is a full back. |
| News Comment | Arsenal Goalkeeper Linked With Southampton at 10:23:02
Think this could work perfectly , if not Ramsdale then someone else's top 2nd keeper. I would have preferred a top out of contract keeper that would have provided experience and mentorship of Gavin. |
| News Comment | Southampton Keen On Signing Brighton keeper at 12:59:49
Yes not exited about this at all McCarthy was a poor decision and a missed opportunity to get someone who was at least class in their day. There are a number out there that would love the challenge with guaranteed starts then be a decent 2nd Keeper.: Pepe Reina anyone lol ! |
| News Comment | Saints Set To Agree Deal With Keeper at 16:13:22
I'm not sure that some people watch the same game to be honest. Bazunu is an exceptional young goalkeeper. McCarthy on top form is mid at best. Bazunu is better in all aspects, better positionally, better shot stopper and distribution wise he is streets ahead. He has been asked to play a specific way by RM in order to get us out of The Championship. Of course if we try to play that way against Man City we will suffer. However Man City are not going to come to St Marys, shut up shop and play for a point like 90% of Championship teams so im hoping that we play more like we did against Leeds. We do need to strengthen in that department so I wouldn't welcome McCarthy staying on. Lumley wasn't trusted when the time came so he will need to be loaned out as well. The End of McCarthys contact should be an opportunity to find alternatives. He is 34 surely we can find someone that age that would welcome a final fling in the Prem |
| News Comment | Southampton Linked To Reunion With Armando Broja at 12:07:53
In the Championship we were a top team without a clinical striker. We had to play as we did. In the Prem we are not the same proposition. The final is probably more indicative of how we will play. Broja could be a good option, IF he is the best we can afford. If we can get him for 20m it could represent a great deal and a Che upgrade. My reservations are his cruciate ligament injury and his mentality both are a bit random at 22/23. Personally I can see him going to Everton |
