| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Carabao Cup Verdict at 12:32:52
The first half was very poor and we lacked any identity. It appeared we went from one extreme to another. No possession didn't seem that much more preferable to possession in the wrong areas. Second half actually felt exciting over boring. It's going to need an astute coach to manage this Saints team and build on some of the positives already within the team and eradicate the negatives. |

Amazing game and it feels pivotal to the whole season and our promotion hopes. We need to be relentless and we were second half. The underwhelming signing of Rothwell looks inspired now and Brooks was class as we knew, so good business there. Use of subs was also excellent. Should Gav have done better on goals 1 and 3? I think so. Games like this is why we watch football - terrific stuff, well done Saints. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Plymouth Argyle The Verdict at 13:29:05
Make no mistake this is a fantastic run, but the fact that a mediocre side actually ran us close is slightly worrying as we push for automatic promotion. On another day we would have been out of site and credit to the team for finding a solution to a defence minded opponent, but this could have gone wrong. The last 6 minutes were unexpected and could have lost us 2 points. It was poor from young Gav, but Jack Stephens should not have put him in that position. Shea Charles, after their goal, losing the ball in a vulnerable place gave Plymouth the chance of an equalizer and against a better team we could have been punished. Well done to Edozie for proving the doubters wrong with another fine display. |
| News Comment | Saints Coronation Day Fixture Change at 10:28:19
It's not like "the powers that be" to be completely inconsiderate of the peasants, if the King decrees it's his special day then we must all fall into line, equally if Sky want to show a game at 8.00, 9.00, 10.00 then who are we to argue?? We have to know our place! |
| News Comment | Southampton At Everton The Verdict at 18:33:37
Well it's taken the best week that Saints have had for many a long moon to get Nick and others back on an even keel. The panic and in some cases vitriol levelled at NJ was quite a sight to behold. The truth is, in the relegation battle there is absolutely all to play for and NJ will know that this Saints appointment is an incredible opportunity for him, I have a sneaking suspicion now that with his energy and enthusiasm he just may make this work! |
| News Comment | Southampton At Fulham The Verdict at 16:49:31
Nick, I don't know why you have gone from the voice of reason to a panicked reactionary. I agreed with your support of Ralph as He kept an underfunded and latterly a ridiculously inexperienced team in the Prem and he should not have been sacked IMO. The choice of new manager was underwhelming and disappointing, but talk of crisis and replacement within 3 games especially after a much improved performance from manager and players alike is crazy talk - it's not going to happen and neither should it. For what it's worth I think we will go down, but it is by no means certain as the bottom 7 have all done badly this season and will depend a lot on the transfer window. The blame is higher up than team and manager, most can see that. You might not like NJ, but we should at least give him a chance, surely? |
| News Comment | Southampton At Fulham The Preview at 10:40:50
A bit over dramatic Nick - maybe too many Sherries?!. We are hardly cast adrift yet. I didn't want Ralph to go or at least felt he should see out the season, but writing Jones off so quickly seems very premature. My instinct is that this challenge will be too much for NJ and we will go down, but we need to at least give the poor guy a chance! |
| News Comment | The Premier League Issue Statement About Taking The Knee at 19:59:44
Thank goodness for that! I find racism both disgusting and ridiculous, but the bizarre, semi religious ritual of players taking the knee and the expectation that the spectators should applaud it before every game was tedious, meaningless, patronising and the very worse kind of virtue signalling, this kind of mass formation activity should have no place in the so called free world. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict at 13:29:36
It's nice to feel really proud of the team, yes we rode our luck, but this was a lion hearted performance and for that reason we deserved a point. Love KWP, always need to find room for him in the team. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Fulham The Verdict at 10:41:05
Jack Stephens is an interesting case, clearly lacking in a lot of areas and yet our form has really picked up since his re-introduction, replacing the whiney Bertrand. If he adds significantly to team spirit then it may be worth overlooking his shortcomings? Agree with others about Redmond, literally the worst game I have ever seen him play, maybe he was missing Bertrand, but Djenepo is surely a much better option? |
