| News Comment | Saints At West Ham United The Verdict at 12:35:18
I thought it was a wasted opportunity to blood some youngsters. Call it pre-season if you will but playing those who we all know do not cut the mustard was odd. Why not give Slattery, Ramsay, Marcus Barnes a go? What we learned is that our squad is not strong enough outside the first 11 or 12 players. If that was a shop window it may now be a car boot sale. |
| News Comment | Saints Fans Should Focus On The Real Problem ! at 10:02:28
For me the issues on recruitment are plain to see. I see no other club in the land who continually sells their players upwards at the regularity we do. Then we crow about a "black box" (I am guessing stats off Football Manager) and how marvelous we are at signing young hungry players. I have slated Redmond for months now but he is looking decent this year. Hjobjerg has become a revalation this season but for every one of these there is a clasie, a carillo, a boufal, a ramirez, a Dani. When you look at our neighbours Bournemouth you don't see a raft of foreign signings or talk of buying players to get a foothold in the game. You see amazing recruitment. We have Ings, Gabbi, Austin, Long, Gallagher (criminally underlooked in my opinion). Of that lot we have as must chance of scoring as a monk in a nunnery. Yet the cherries have Wilson and King banging them in regularly. Our forwards are top class but as a whole the team is not a team. We have the confidence of a fish on a motorway. Now is this because of players in or through poor management of head coaches, recruitment of staff? I would suggest both. In which case the people running the club are not as wonderful as they claim to be when running fan forums before we can get upset about results or making videos about the "Southampton Way". We gave up on the "Southampton Way" when Koeman left. It has been turgid and downhill since. |
| News Comment | Saints V Huddersfield Town The Verdict at 17:31:05
I thought the whole thing was a shambles from the line up to the formation to performance. Hjobjerg has been our best player recently and he is rested? RESTED? He has hardly played all season. I honestly believe that Pellegrino is out of his depth. He doesn't know how to make this unbalanced team win. He picks the team out of a hat. Probably controversial but if Big Sam had come in I bet he could get a tune out of this broke flute of a club. When we attack we have 1 or maybe 2 players running into the box. Watch other teams and 4 of the players are busting their gonads to be in the box to score. As long as this continues and we keep buying Dusan Tadic, Dusan Redmond and Dusan Boufal and not getting in players who can cross or pass we wont improve. Interesting stat... we have won 3 matches out of 17 in December in the last 3 years. |
| News Comment | Why Saints Can Finish In The Top 7 This Year ! at 17:54:00
I cannot believe we continue to play Redmond. Impact sub maybe but he is light on the ball, gets bullied, is a one shot pony who can only cut in and shoot and offer very little in crosses. Add to the fact that Davis is our captain but has the shooting ability of a blind squirrel and Tadic is about as much use as a tit on a fish and you can see why we can't score. Claude played the same way and isolated the striker with little or no service. No midfielders playing one twos with the striker and believing they will score. MP is doing exactly the same. It is like nothing has changed. Meanwhile Hjojberg and Clasie are ostracised. People slate JWP but at least he creates chances! GK - McCarthy LB - Targett CB - Hoedt CB - Yoshida RB - Cedric LM - McQueen DM - Romeu AM - Lemina RM - JWP CF - Austin CF - Gabbi At least it gives a chance for delivery and goals. Why is 4-4-2 such a dirty word? 4-2-3-1 is about as successful as a dart in a dingy. Lets have a team of people who want to play rather than lazy gits. |
| News Comment | Nathan Redmond - A Split Personality Performance at 19:08:36
I admit I thew my programme to the ground and let out a primal scream when Nathan Redmond missed his sitter. My blood was boiling and I would at that point have subbed him. For the first 35 mins he ran not into space but behind the midfielders and was not in any position to receive the ball. His positioning was woeful. Cedric kept getting near and there was no outlet but back again. I am not sure if someone on the pitch had a word or Puel got his message through but suddenly he changed. It is so easy to say he is the worst player etc etc. The boy has talent. He is a bit weak in stature and can get bullied but he has pace to spare and when he moves into space and runs beyond the defence he creates chances. It was a performance of 2 halves. first 35 mins 2/10 the rest of the game 8/10. If people want a scapegoat in that game look at Clasie who was terrible. I will continue to cuss and grumble about Redmond but if he gives it all in the whole match then he will soon be a menace to defences and scoring goals. |
