Could be it for Russell Martin
at 22:45 5 Dec 2024

I suspect they bought into the "Swansea way" nonsense. Assuming that we'd only accept managers who played a certain way.

There's probably some justification in that. I've seen loads of people creaming themselves over Williams's recent statement that we're somehow "unique". Obvious nonsense of course. We're about as bog standard as football teams get.

Cardiff fans rightly get abused in these parts for thinking that they're somehow special and more important than they are. Plenty of ours also need to look in a mirror.

Assaults on Paramedics
at 22:42 5 Dec 2024

People who assault NHS staff should be banned from accessing NHS services. Five years for a first offence. Life for a second.

Got cancer? You abused a paramedic. Tough sh*t. Go private.

Suggestions for Coleman

What would it have done for the 30+ weeks of the year when the Swans weren't playing?

Take it from someone who knows a fair bit about maintaining a licenced premises in the Landore area. Swans games were the cherry on top, not the pie itself.

Understand that a lot of Swans fans are barely sentient idiots who will whinge about whatever you do no matter how much you try. You won't please these people. You can't please these people. You'll be happier if you ignore them.

After that, make much better use of the kids for a quid thing and do your level best to increase season ticket sales, even if that involves sacrificing potential future income.

Interesting. Apart from the cobblers about Brexit of course. The doors were thrown wide open by Blair and New Labour. Many of the problems society is dealing with currently can be laid right at Tony's feet.

Caveat that it might be AI, but if it is, it's a good one.

He may not be. The point I'm making is that nobody can say with any certainty because the poor sod keeps getting sent out for execution every game. If he had it in him to begin with the confidence will be at a low ebb by now. He's been appallingly handled.

Fulton is a decent enough option in the right midfield, albeit very much a squad option these days than a first choice. He's often been an easy target for some over the years but his plus column is significantly higher than the minuses for me. What we must never do if we can possibly help it is pair him with Grimes because they bring the worst out in each other.

People thought that losing Eom would be a huge blow, but results and performances have actually been pretty good in his absence. I don't think the squad is anything like as weak as a lot of people are claiming that it is. In comparison to some we've had in the past perhaps. In comparison to the rest of the division other than the likes of Leeds? I'm not so sure.

Well no. The primary thing most people (other than the usual haters who I believes that we both have equal contempt for) complain about is that he brings Abdulai on out wide instead of an actual winger. Putting a player so obviously unsuited for the role he's being asked to play is detrimental to the team and he keeps doing it. Game after game.

We're not in a position to have two first team options for every position on the pitch, which makes it important that the coach maximises what he does have. He's getting there now, albeit with a couple of blind spots. He was nowhere near in October/November, and it's baffling to me that people are still pretending otherwise.

We're well past the point where anyone should be claiming that the squad he has isn't capable of being competitive because it quite clearly is as recent results and performances have demonstrated. What it needs is to be used properly. Round pegs, round holes. Players in roles that work to their strengths, not to fit some pre-planned tactical idea.

There's no accounting for taste.

I don't mind Sheeran though, or at least I don't loathe him like a lot of people do.

Went to see Newton Faulkner at the Patti in the week. Wasn't expecting much. I liked his first album but hadn't heard much of his stuff since. What a show though. Superb live performer.

The PA packed in temporarily just as he started doing one of his bigger hits, so he came to the front of the stage and started playing acoustically. After about a verse the crowd just took over from him and he just played along with a big cheesy grin on his face.

It's a fair question. I am, on the whole, only partly enthused by Luke Williams.

After an iffy start he's done reasonably well. The defence is nice and tight, which is important as if you're conceding goals by the shedload you'll never get anywhere. In that at least he's smarter than his mentor.

In recent games performances have improved markedly. Improved enough to make some wonder how it was possible to be so poor with the exact same players in October. To others the answer is obvious in that the team wasn't being sent out to play in a way that in any circumstances was able to get the best out of them. I think we can comfortably lay to bed the idea that he's been given an incapable squad. It just took him perhaps longer than it should have to work out how to use them.

In any case, we're doing well now and with a couple of additions should do even better. We just need him to stop playing people out of position, substituting Franco just for the giggles and make use of his full squad and we can get somewhere.

13 years today since Gary Speed 😔
at 21:39 28 Nov 2024

I get that. The demons in the head make people do terrible things sometimes. Most of the people I know who committed suicide did it totally out of the blue and yes, in many cases left themselves for family to find.

I do however question why we need an annual reminder of this event. Gary Speed had no connection to our club yet for some reason we seem to feel the need to commemorate this. I cannot recall the last time the OS made any mention of Alan Davies.

Electric vehicles
at 21:30 28 Nov 2024

I did enjoy the long sermon about how electric cars are great from a guy who makes a living from selling electricity.

Seriously though, battery technology is nowhere near replacing internal combustion engines which is why car companies are pleading with the Govt to change the targets. If the furthest I went was Tenby then absolutely I'd consider having one. As it isn't, then I won't. Hybrid maybe. That's about it.

When the time comes and batteries can be recharged in five minutes with no adverse affect on their long term viability then more people will change. Until then they won't.

Meanwhile in London….

I enjoy visiting London.

Yes, it's a bit of a tourist trap and you could come out of there after a week having easily spent thousands, but if you're smart there's plenty of free or reasonably priced stuff to occupy yourself with.

I certainly wouldn't want to live there though.

Edit: read it wrong.

£2m for Cullen would be a good deal based on what we've seen of him in his career so far. Maybe he could develop a bit more where he's been playing in recent weeks, but it's unlikely that he'll ever be as good as a specialist in the role.

Electric cars are basically useless unless you've got parking outside your house and only do short trips.

If you cover (even occasionally) long distances, want to haul anything, or maybe turn the heater on in Winter, forget it. They're useless.

Immigration is claimed to boost the economy. I've seen figures that suggest otherwise when you factor in the ultimate cost. We also apparently need migration to support an ageing population. What happens when the migrants themselves get old is a question that has yet to be answered.

Bottom line is that there are too many people contributing too little (including the home grown), and continuing to cram more in will not help the situation.

"This means that if you are in a position where you cannot afford supplemental insurance you are in the lower tier of a two-tier healthcare system. - you are on a lengthy waiting list"

That's basically what happens here isn't it?

You seem to think that opposing teams should just lie down and let us do whatever we want. The idea that they have their own game plan and can make tactical changes just doesn't occur to you.

Newsflash. We're not going to win every game 3-0. Sometimes we will lose. Or draw. Sometimes we will play poorly and win. Sometimes we will play well and lose. The sooner you accept this the less tedious you will be for the rest of us.
