Luke Williams really isn’t sure about his squad. Free agent update and Bristol
at 18:59 25 Sep 2024

I certainly don't disagree that loads of it has been wasted. We didn't get much of a return from what we allowed Potter to spend, there have been a couple of poor managerial appointments and wages in general have been much too high for for the return we've got (£1m a season for Captain Marvel when nobody else was offering him anything remotely similar being the prime example).

None of which however deflects from the fact that they've done the very thing that even now far too many people still accuse them of not doing. Accuse them of poor management by all means. There's a hell of a case to be made for that. Accuse them of not investing in, supporting or "backing" the club? It's simply not true.

The post is clearly not genuine. The username alone makes it obvious. He's not the only one.

I have no idea when they last saw the team play, nor do I particularly care.

What is an undeniable statement of fact however that a significant eight figure sum has been put into the club to cover ongoing losses over the last four or five years. Probably too much if we're being honest, which is why a rebalancing of the clubs finances is overdue.

People (not specifically you, there are loads) have spent much of the time since 2016 complaining about a lack of "investment" in the club. We broke our transfer record several times after 2016 whilst still in the PL, and have spent £1m plus on plenty of players since getting relegated despite ever mounting deficits.

I find it difficult to understand how anyone can look at the clubs finances over the last several seasons and not come to the same conclusion.

Civil trolls are still trolls. Posting for one purpose only.

What are you classing as "current owners"?

There was certainly no shortage of cash being spent from 2016 to 2018, and given the levels of subsidy required on an annual basis just to maintain the squad we have now it doesn't look like much has changed.

I would suggest that lower tolerance towards trolls may result in fewer incidents. We know who the worst culprits are.

A pressing game against teams who don't sit deep suits him, and neither Norwich or Coventry sat deep and shut up shop.

I still have concerns over him when we need to break teams down and do think we need a more creatively capable player in that role, but he has played well in recent games.

A very good win on the road.

Some slight concerns that keep reappearing, like us losing momentum in the second half either through tactical choice or an inability to react to opposition changes, but otherwise we have to be happy with that.

Temperature shock maybe?

Sometimes it just does happen. Might even have been something on the plants if they went in at the same time as the fish.

Luke confirms there have been talks with Harry Darling
at 19:05 19 Sep 2024

Agreeing a new contract requires the consent of both parties. This season (and the end of last) he has played well and it's obvious that the club are trying to negotiate a new deal and have been for some time.

Blaming the club for Darling walking for free only works if he actually wants to sign a new deal. Considering that he spent quite a bit of his first eighteen months or so here on and off the bench as a result of Russy's defensive "tweaking", and now he's played himself to a point where others might be interested, then that's not a given.

Club gives Starmer £2000?
at 10:01 19 Sep 2024

That's kinda the point of the register, so it can be checked who these "gifts" came from. To do the level of digging required to find out all that information would probably require a team of hundreds to Police all MP's. A necessary evil perhaps. Maybe a bit OTT.

Very little, but appearances and all that.

In a lot of cases, these "gifts" are just equivalent value of hotel stays, event tickets, stuff like that. Some will obviously grift more than others though. Some will do their best to avoid declaring it.

All leads to what I've said before. MP's are underpaid. There are too many of them, but those that remain after the cull should earn considerably more. Less temptation to work second jobs/consultancies, less temptation to have the hand out.

Hospitality probably. Stays in Morgan's if he's politicking in town. Think he's been to the stadium at least once.

Swansea Arena could possibly have been bigger (and y'know, an actual arena instead of just a big theatre) but they wouldn't have been able to put it where it is.

Always made more sense to me in the long run to have redeveloped the Civic Centre site for it. Loads more room.

One of the excuses he gave was an inferiority complex about having gone to Cardiff Uni instead of Oxford, which would be an amusing burn in most other circumstances.

Bristol airport - only if you really have to.

If Cardiff airport was busier it would already be the case. The car park is so unnecessarily convoluted I had to spend longer than I needed to in there and got charged when the place was basically deserted.

Did you have to pay t'mill owner for privilege of coming to work?

Aston Villa won the league title in 1981 using just 14 players. Nobody made more than 46 total appearances. Again as an example, Saka last season played 61 times for club and country. First game 6th August, last game 14th July.

Quite happy to be in the minority on this one. Too many games. If people want to see good quality football, then we need to stop overloading the players so some FIFA/UEFA suits can make more cash.

He's right though. Unfortunately too often the reaction is that players should just shut up and play. Tired players deliver a poorer product. They get injured more often.

I've seen comparisons with Tennis players. Tennis players cover about half the distance in a three hour game than most outfield footballers cover in 90 minutes, and the best do it 50-60 times over a season with only a few days break in between.

Ferguson and Wenger both said similar years ago. Klopp too recently if memory serves.
