Smythy fantastic today. He's finally learned to play a decent final ball and it's paying off. Dunne an absolute monster as well. |

Some proper nasty stuff from us today - good. Dunne is having an amazing game and also causing a lot of trouble. JCS on for Fox and Kolli on for Frey, presumably before he gets himself sent off. |

Won the EFL Trophy with them too last year. Agree he's very young but he's played nearly every game for Peterborough in the last 3 seasons including 55 appearances in 2023/24 - at 21 he's closing in on 150 competitive appearances including most of a Championship season. More to the point he seems to always be fit and god knows that in a squad like ours availability is a quality all of its own. Seems like a good one to me - he's clearly keen to play and good enough to be ever-present in a recent Championship team which finished in the L1 playoffs last year, and not interested in sitting and rotting in Southampton's reserves. He'll either now be rubbish or do his ACL in the first game for us, but I'm hopeful it works out. Don't think we'll get to sign him permanently (So'ton paid £3m six months ago and he's probably next in the pipeline for when Bednarek moves on or one of the other young CBs they have is sold). |

At this rate he might manage one whole half of football enbefore the loan ends. Not all in one go, of course. |

I think when he arrived it was a fair enough signing - he looked like exactly what his CV suggests, a bloke who had a lot of promise (enough to play in the CL for Ajax) but lacks that extra 10% of athleticism to stay at that level. It's the regression over the summer that is baffling, six weeks off shouldn't turn a player like that into someone who struggles to play a simple pass! |

Andersen was absolutely shocking. Ten months ago I was stood in basically the same place at Ashton Gate watching him for the first time and he was streets ahead, on Saturday he looked like someone's dad being allowed to play for a laugh. He offers nothing defensively as he can't close anyone down, and any time the ball comes to him he kills a move dead as he can't get it out quickly or accurately. When he showed up in January he always seemed to have an extra second to think than anyone else did, which made up for the fact he's not fast - now he looks a second behind everyone else. It's a bit sad to watch, and he's only 30. |

Yeah he was dreadful. City were at him all day - the only reason we didn't have more problems is that Morrisson basically does his job for him. |

The rest of this I'd heard before but was it common knowledge about Derry kicking Diouf's car afterwards? Had a good laugh at that. |

For our first goal we had some sustained pressure where Oxford would get it clear and we'd go right back on the attack - Varane played a huge part in that stopping them breaking away and getting the ball back out to the wings. A couple of wobbly moments too but he's improving game to game. |

Worth checking out the second Norwich offside on the highlights where Crnac is screaming at him and the lino just shrugs like what do you want me to do? Right around 1:44. |
| Forum Reply | Kolli at 20:11 8 Dec 2024
Yeah I missed that at the time but saw it on the highlights - he gets himself the right side and gives the defender a properly solid shove, then straight onto the ball and looking for goal. This is right after playing a neat little flick to Morgan to set up the initial shot. As others have said, really good game intelligence especially for his level of experience. |
| Forum Reply | Madsen today at 18:49 7 Dec 2024
In particular the second Kolli goal comes from a Norwich mistake as Madsen presses the player on the ball. He is slowly coming good, and looks much better in a 3. Another good game for Varane too. |

Fantastic in his defensive role since he came back from the suspension, has learned the pace and is much better at reading the game and putting himself in the right place to break things up. Still can be frustrating on the ball, he has plenty of ability but he quite often slows things down when it comes to him and has a bit of a tendency to play a loose pass or run himself into trouble. I think he'll get there, he clearly has the talent and he has played some decent balls through - now that he's learned how quick he has to be to impose himself on other players in this league he'll have to learn how to handle them doing the same to him. |
| Forum Reply | Morrison, anyone notice? at 09:53 1 Dec 2024
Marti tried that 5-4-1 a few times; both JCS and Morrison wre comfortable stepping into midfield (and actually Cook is decent on the ball too and has a good range of passing), so if all three CBs are fit he might try that. |

Once again looking at Morrison and thinking what a difference he's made since coming back - fills that JCS role better than anyone else. Though right as I say that he plays them in dangerously... |

Seemed to just be managing minutes/getting a fresh player on. |
| Forum Reply | Celar at 21:58 27 Nov 2024
It's Ashby who finds the pass, Madsen went off a few minutes before. It's a good ball too, he has a second to look up and see the space and gets the delivery right (helped on by the Cardiff defender!). |
