And it starts again. He received offers from clubs at a higher level. And he's there to take them back to where they belong, the Championship.

It's obviously a week where their chairman is visible again.

He might as well have said "he's come to take us to wembley to win another FA cup because that's what club of bUrys stature should be winning"

What a be!!end.

Poll: Would we have a stronger management team with Flicker back ?

Just thought i would add to this debate with a few facts, Bury have still spent more time in the top two tiers than the bottom two tiers , we have along with Notts County scored 1000 goals in every tier in English Football , I wont mention the FA Cup as you lot seem to cry into your beer when we mention it.

I will go with this statement of fact .

You cannot change History !

True but you can interpret it . . .

Little point in including the time when the top two divisions were also the bottom two divisions, so taking 1921 onwards you have actually spent more seasons in the bottom two tiers. Since 1957 you have spent about 9 seasons in 'division 2', which hardly makes you a traditional Championship club in today's terms.

Still better than us, obviously as we have never got to the top two divisions.

(How to waste a lunch hour).

I'm nearly 50 and the only time I can remamber bury being in "the top 2 divisions" it ended up with them bankrupting themselves.

Norden it isn't what is now it's what has already happened it's factual , clubs will have cycles of highs and lows , we all do .

Bury FC have through history had class , i admit lately over the last 10 year we have had turmoil but inbetween brilliant days and i for one would never ever support anybody else .

I'm off now but i'l leave you with this pearl , "it's better to have had and lost than never to have had at all " .....tata

Interesting misquotation given the title of the original:
From Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem:

In Memoriam

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Why would you want to boo him ffs?

Why would I want to boo him?

As I said, I have a great amount of respect for what he did for the club and acknowledge his achievements. I also think his decision to take the Bury job is a completely sensible one in wanting to earn a wage for his family.

However, as others have pointed out I think he could have got a better job than the bury one, so why go to Dale's local rivals? Well, I can't possibly know for certain this would materialise. perhaps he wasn't prepared to take the chance of waiting around for another offer which may never come. Fair enough.

I didn't boo hill and flicker when they returned with Barnsley as they had taken a step up to advance their careers. Flicker has taken a step down to manage local rivals. I see no reason why he should be excluded from the hostile reception bury as a club receive at Spotland. It's football, not Blue Peter.

When Hilly first hired Flickers as his Number 2 (or Number 1.5) he said two things. First was he had a huge address book on his phone and second that he was a people person. I suspect things like the Soldier figure stunt at our training camps where Flickers' ideas. This is all great for motivating a struggling team into fighting, but with a squad the size of Bury's will it actually work? To quote Hilly, will there be too many terrorists in the camp?

Personally I love Flickers for all his services to Dale and wish him all the best. Ideally he jumps ship to another club before he reaches the moon.

You're a true fan, WBFC, or at the very least you've got a true fan's sense of humour.

It must have caused you a wry smile to think how Flicker, and Hilly, seem to have frittered away such a chunk of your chairman's ill-gotten gains.

Ill-gotten gains?

Are you implying our owner is a criminal etc?

You do realise he was cleared, don't you?

And as for 'ill', yes he is. He is a severe diabetic and very unwell at present.

I really don't understand anymore, the anti-Barnsley vibe that a few of you still buzz off. I really don't. Especially when used against me, a bloke who may have quarreled with you initially, but a bloke who does everything he can to big up Rochdale, your fans, your stadium, your standing in football, etc etc and so on.

It hurts me, deeply.

To be honest Whitey you do come across as a proper decent chap and you have spent many occasions on here praising all things Dale and for that as a fan of another club is class, at the start many had a pop at you probably myself included for obvious reasons to begin with.I find your posts of good interest and very fair, keep up the good work Whitey

In view of Mr Cryme's expensive lawyers I'd not suggest any wrong-doing at all. I'm sure it's just coincidence that the NHS lost a lot of money at the same time as he made a lot:

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2013/aug/13/isoft-cofounder-disciplinary-act

Apart from, of course, Barnsley - and Dale and no doubt a few others - there are a lot of dubious characters involved in the running of football clubs. Hilly has occasionally criticised the way dodgy financial practices have given them unfair advantages. Maybe that's influenced my tendency to look for sharp operators even where they don't exist.

But genuine fans can't be blamed when their club falls into the wrong hands. It happened to Dale some 30 years ago (perhaps that's why some of us are so bitter).

Then (and because I can't be arsed to try and find a link) you ought to ask Keith what he thought of Patrick Cryne. In fact, I urge you to do so. He loved the Cryne family. And, in Flicker's farewell interview he too praised the Cryne family and said they were always supportive of Hillcroft and their strategy.

Patrick is a Barnsley man, and a self-made millionaire. The episode you refer to does indeed seem 'dodgy' with just the accusing rhetoric. But there's other sides and other arguments that have never been heard, never needed to be heard because as I say, he was cleared. And all they did was cost the taxpayers an absolute fortune in chasing after him and his so-called 'accomplices'.

I'm quite proud of the fact that our club has only ever been owned by Barnsley men. Very rare is that, and long may it continue.

Here's another take on it.

I hold it true the fax machine broke
I feel it, the paperwork never went through
Tis better to be in the FA cup
Than to be thrown out.

Like you say you cannot change history.

Well, Whitey, your pride in things Barnsley does you credit. I'm reminded of how some in Rochdale defend Cyril Smith, who never had his day in court ("He started with nowt, became an MP, spoke up for the town, lived in the same terraced house most of his life" etc.).

But it seems undeniable that Patrick Cryne gained a lot more from the taxpayers - that's all of us (isn't £4 of a £20 ticket to a football match paid as VAT?) - than was spent "chasing" him, as you put it. You probably know much more than I do about the "other sides and other arguments that have never been heard", though I can't but wonder why an innocent man wouldn't do more to rebut the accusations that have been made.

Facts and history are representative when used by someone who progressed past drinking from a sippy cup.

What you put paints no such thing as a representative description of bury's past.

Why not mention your financial history over the last 20 years?

The one thing to be said in favour of the buckets is that I have never laughed so hard at a matchday programme (Sorry TVOS) as when I saw them list themselves as "undefeated" in the year they were booted out of the cup for breaking the most basic of rules.

By going on like this you make your clubs past achievements into a mockery.
