Mono Mono Mono 17:54 - Jun 10 with 3652 views | bpr11 | I wonder if the Spanish FA and its fans will be investigated by UEFA seeing as their fans sounded like they chanted this whenever Balotelli touched the ball in the first 25 minutes or will it be conveniently ignored seeing as they are the favourites and they play the game beautifully....

yeah looked like he was going to have one of those games when he would best be substituted till he took that ball down on the touch line, quality. Love watching Spain play but would like Italy to to score first to put some pressure on them. Iniesta has been class

Really? It just goes to show that it is a game of opinions. I thought the game was dire. I though Spain looked awful, especially so in the first half. Once they brought on a couple of substitutes they looked better. Even though Torres squandered three golden opportunities, just having him in the side opened up a lot of space. I was so bored in the first half with all these (slow) midfielder--spain played with 6 midfielders -- ambling around with no real focus or spark. Navas on the wing gave them speed and then Torres stretched the defense and created space. In all I thought it was a poor game, possibly the least interesting game of the competition so far.

Ah i couldn't disagree more. Apart from maybe the Russia game i thought it was the best. Italy looked decent going forward, Pirlo spread some great passes around, the WBs got involved high up the pitch, and they defended solidly. Spain didn't look awful IMO, just a bit boring. They didn't want width because they crossing balls into Xavi, David Silva, Iniesta, Fabregas will get you know where with Chiellini, who was a rock, and the others in defence. They worked it well around the box, short tippy tappy gay passes is what they do. The thing is one minute spain look like they are ambling doing what they usually do, than bam, one slide pass into Fabregas was it? Or a spark from Iniesta and they threaten, it was weird, and Spain were under par, but i wouldn't say awful and it made for a fascinating game of football.

Mono Mono Mono on 12:06 - Jun 11 with 2347 views | Juzzie | Could we be entering a new era in how football is played? Barcelona/Swansea/Spain/Chelsea? OK, maybe the Spanish can do it a bit better but if the PL becomes how Swansea and Chelsea (especially in the latter stages of the CL) have played then it's going to become a bore-fest. Someone please turn the lights off on the way out.
Mono Mono Mono on 12:12 - Jun 11 with 2336 views | stansleftfoot | For me it's important this blend of what's no more than five a side football is given a trouncing by a proper honest entertaining football side. I expect from football something expansive and exciting. The Spanish model is what we trained with in the 70's, it's quite good fun to play and joke around with but it 'ain't football. Its one or two touch, no passes above head height, it's no more than part of a training session. Swansea, Barca, Spain, it's boring and is surprisingly easy to deal with, a few games of 60% possession and losing 2-0 will soon put this tippy-tappy bullshxt back into the training manuals. Inesta stood out as he realised he had to go past a player to break down the Italy defence, the games open up when they get tired and a goal has been scored. When Ian Britton sits at the top of the passing stats and it's seen as a success Football begins to get laughable....we've had some top class passing players at QPR who played on a ploughed field....that's football, Currie, Francis, Venables, Don Masson, Spain and Barca....Pa! Wouldn't bother watching, Well Played Italy!

The passing games great as long as you are attacking at the same time, all Swansalona did was pass it along the back 4 , crappy and boring.

Mono Mono Mono on 13:47 - Jun 11 with 853 views | stansleftfoot | The success of Barca in their own league speaks of the quality of Messi and the teams Barca play. Sadly faced with some bad luck, and when faced with a strategy that they had no answer to Barcelona lost to Chelsea. I suspect that seen in the true perspective of playing in the Euro's the Spanish will face more difficult tasks than Italy and come up short. My argument is that variation and dynamism has as a big a role to play as a passing game. The reality of Football is that Goals are scored as much by forcing error as by creating the perfect four man passing goal...the limitations of player skills, physical size, need to be accepted in the light of a 90 minute game. I accept i might seem to be denigrating the passing model, i'm not, i'm just saying that i believe truly great teams need to be able to adopt a mix of both the long and the short game. There is an ebb and flow to a football game and great coach's teach that to their better players, there are moments in a game when opportunities arise. Italy with Di Natale showed that once and he was close on another occasion. I think we've seen the use of strategy being used to bring about wins by "lesser" sides not only by QPR but a number of other teams. That is why Mark Hughes says" i know how to win a game" and " i just need the players to follow my instructions" For me i question whether Barcelona or Spain have the variation when coming up against strategies to deny their passing game. This competition will test that. The limitations of English football are complex and originate back in the 70's when the message from people like Sexton, Jago, Venables and, more recently, Wilkinson were not taken up and lie with the FA.
