Proper footballing teams, Chelsea knew that if they left their box and tried to play they would have been beaten comfortably by both. I will route for Bayern in europe, they're an example that you can achieve success (almost) by doing it the right ways and spending within their means, and properly ran without the aid of a russian/Dubai/American billionaire.

You sound like Arsène Wenger. Arsenal havent won anything in 7 years playing attractive football!! Proper footballing teams? I don't follow you! Chelsea adapted their game, Tactics that worked. You have to play to your strengths!

Ribery criticised Bayern Munich's lack of spending over the winter break.

It may be a sad state of affairs but it is true throughout football, success and spending come hand in hand

Not that Ipswich are bankrolled and kept out of administration by some muppet

Im not in favour of having Evans at the club, we were better without the money/expectations that has come from having him at the helm, was much better under Burley/Royle an to an extent Magilton.

Northernsoul: I'm a big fan of Wenger, he is right, it is not right that the clubs who spend within their means get ridiculed for doing so. Bayern and Arsenal are similar in the way they're run, both could spend more than they do, but are not prepared to put themselves in financial harm by doing so, instead going for youth and turning them into superstars, however it seems that if you dont power spend nowadays you get left behind, as Arsenal are finding.

Ribery has come out on a couple of occasions critisising the board for not spending big, Schweinsteiger also, but the board is set in its ways, dont believe big names are the answer. They are, however, in need of a big name striker to push from being a top team to a great team.

Life is a game of fate.

Mario Gomez has scored 50 goals in the last calendar year

OK, he fluffed his chances last night, but his goals per game record at the highest level is comparable with anyone

Gomez is a world class striker than any other striker would be proud off, they have Shaqiri an excellent talent joining them in the summer and they keep getting stronger for me they need a world class cb vidic esque but they had hummels and let him go. When Bayern do spend they spend big neuer, Gomez, Ribery, robben and boateng (I would relate them more the man utd off Germany rather than arsenal buy buying up and producing the best German talent, but are being beat to it ATM by Dortmund i.e Marco Rues who Dortmund beat Bayern too). Unfortunately this wasn't there year but I can only real madrid, barcelona and city fighting it out over the next few years

This is the One, I've waited for

Terry and Cole, while superb footballers, are vile and greedy creatures and epitomise what is wrong with football with their off field behaviour and general manner while on the field.

For me, Lampard is up there with your Beckhams, Giggs, Scholes, Nevilles, Shearers, Linekers of this world as model pro's.

Not entirely sure you can include Giggs and Lineker on that list.

But, as for the match, I was surprised that, when it went to penalties, Chelsea actually went for goal. The previous 120 minutes certainly didn't signal that intent.

Shaqiri I would liken to a young Robben, and a much better investment than the over hyped Edin Hazard, Gomez's biggest problem is he isnt instinctive enough, yes he gets the goals but often disappears during the big games, and needs someone to burden the load. Boateng/Badstuber have the potential to be a top class pairing, rather Badstuber than Hummels, havn't beaten Dortmund for the last 2 years in cup or league, but in the view of potential signings they will always be seen as Germany's number 1 team. I think that this team has the potential to be european champions, it just needs one or 2 more class signings, through the middle to take the burden off the likes of Kroos/Mueller and a top draw 2nd striker, already have the worlds best GK.

Life is a game of fate.

Where do you rate Joe Hart in the keeper rankings? He has had a fantastic couple of seasons.

he's a decent keeper, but until he proves it on the world stage in a WC/Euros and in Champs league he cant be rated as high as the Neuer/Casillas of the world, next couple/few years are crucial for him.

Badstuter over Hummels? Hummels is the best defender in Germany by a country mile, boateng isn't a top draw defender and I doubt he will ever be as good as Hummels, if it was Hummels and Badstuter that would be a better combination IMO. I understand your point about Gomez he needs a Owen/Hernandez player to help him off the bench but his record is outstanding

Come on Montpellier - do it for all the clubs that don't have the fortune to be owned by a billionaire Sheikh or Russian oligarch!

yeah I stand by that, I think Badstuber has come on leaps and bounds in this past year, he has cut out a lot of his mistakes and will be the main CD for Germany for many years, Hummels, I think is a decent CB, but everytime I see him play in europe or for the NT he bombs, I think he is helped by having Subotic alongside him, who deserves most of the credit for Dortmunds tight defense imo.

I dont think its fair to judge Boateng on what he did or didn't do at City, I don't know if you watch ESPN, but have a look at him next season he really has fitted in well, and I strongly believe those two in 4/5 years will be a top class partnership, add to that the WC players such as Lahm/Neuer and the newly emerged Alaba you have a good steady defense., what is needed is someone up top to share Gomez's work load and someone through the middle to take the burden off Ribery/Robben to provide the goals.

Life is a game of fate.
