your most underated qpr player of all time???? on 20:30 - Mar 6 by CamberleyR
Don't think Gregory was on that tour. He did win a few caps on the previous summer's tour Down Under (virtually a B team) where such luminaries as Nick Pickering and Mark Barham got their only taste of international football.
Clive Allen did make that South American tour though and played in all three games.
My most underrated player would be Gary Waddock who in his prime Joey Barton couldn't lace his boots.

Waddock underrated! By whom?
Was going to Man Utd til Venables talked him out of it.
Then promptly farked off to Barca.
Nope, not underrated.

Dawes wasn't any good when he was up against a decent winger, but Mark Dennis who replaced him was, and was a breath of fresh air when he helped with our decent start in 87/88.

Sorry Baz, disagree. When you think of the three seasons when we got to the Cup Final, won the 2nd division and then finished 5th, Waddock's contribution to that success was generally overlooked (by the media particularly) in favour of Allen, Stainrod, Gregory who seemed to take more of the glory and limelight. WE all knew how good and important he was though.

That's my point though, United tried to nick him, what a move that would have been, Venables played on hisw loyalty then let him down. people on football knew how good he was, not just us.
Sorry but it's definitely Leach, given the original question.

Terry Fenwick. Superb for us.

Mickey Leach x
only those who have watched Rz since the 60's can appreciate what this great man went through - he rescued rangers so many times and also created what we now call "assists" but were known as grafts.
Hang your head in shame those fair weathers how abused him. I was just a kid and am now ashamed at the abuse so called grown men hurled at him. I now realise they were just low life wife beaters
Micky Leach wins this one but there are so many on the fringe. I dont think anyone has come up with Rufus Brevett or Ian Watson or Ian Holloway yet (I know he's considered in other ways but never gave less than 100%). Gino Padula, Frank Clarke, Paul Goddard - again, I know he went on to do stuff at Wet Spam - but there was a time when he was nearly the complete forward. Oh and Ian Stewart!

venables captain fa cup scorer our most capped england player (i think) 300 odd games played fullback centreback sweeper centremidfield took a mean freekick and never saw miss a penalty
Totally agree about Mick Leach but also glad to see Steve Palmer's name being mentioned. He may not have been the greatest player we've ever had but he was nowhere near as bad as the booboys made out. Most importantly of all, he was a fantastic captain and led by example on and off the pitch behaving professionally at all times. He was exactly the kind of player we needed at that time to galvanise the many inexperienced players in the squad. Best captain we've had since Alan McDonald in my opinion.

Alan WIlks the other one to wear the number 10 with Mick Leach. The mob never accepted either because they were given the number 10 shirt. With the right support Wilks could have been a great player but no ticker, he let the boo boys get to him Leach didn't.

Great shouts from daveB of Steve Palmer,Marcus Bignot and Mick Leach.Like a few others on this thread I go for Leach..he did not have the class and skill of some others in the extraordinary 74-77 vintage but by Daphne Biggs he was a tryer. In 75/76 I would have also picked John Hollins ahead of him every time but when he came in he ran his arse of,all the same getting a good slagging from many in the Loft.Steve Palmer and Marcus Bignot were also often the scapegoat of the day and limited in skill perhaps but were natural born leaders, got others playing and always tried their hardest even when getting roasted by faster, more naturally skillful opposition.Would like to see Leach,Palmer and Biggie or their descendants recieve specially struck QPR medals. Here's a top Leach moment and if you watch the whole vid you'll see the odd cock-up that the boo boys would always notice too.Anyone else remember Leach's testimonial at I think v Slovan Bratislava in '77? Wat a tryer! Mickey's pearler @ 3mins 11seconds
Shocking too that Ian Gillard's testimonial v Spuds only got 3,500k.

Paul Goddard -- he was always in Clive Allen's shadow but I thought he was actually more skillful than Allen and supplied Allen with countless chances.
Perhaps not of all time but Alex Bonnot and Aziz Ben Askar were a key part of the team in the early period of our first season in div 2. Never really got the recognition they deserved IMO.

Undisputed king of the underated.
King of the most villified.
Close the thread, answer sorted, totally correct number ten.
Absolutely, but not by me. Mick Leach always gave everything, was two footed, could head and tackle - just a shame he didn't have the pace of others, but he could read a game.
I watched Mick progress from the juniors in 1965 and he was ahead of the Morgan twins, Sibley, Hazell and the rest.
My joint all time player, along with Mark "Bunch of fives" Lazarus, for very different reasons.
I really hope we name a stand after him when we move to a new ground, but probably he will get a tea bar instead
