Think today's 30 minute cameo has now established signs that the real Chair has returned Looked strong, released the ball much much quicker and added strength and quality.
Superb assist for the winner. Think he replaces Saito in the first eleven next game,

I wouldn't change it. A 30 minute cameo is totally different to starting. Chair always needs time to get fit and sharp. Saito offers so much tracking back. Don't think Chair could handle that volume of work. Slowly build up his fitness. He's had two big injuries this season. Keep brining him on and when the time is right either start him or an opportunity will present itself. Despite Smyths impact recently, I think he would maybe make way. Him coming off then bench with his pace against a tiring defence would be good. Also at some point Dembele to come back too. Soon we will have some nice options. I like Morgan in the advanced role too. Whilst the team are improving, players can't just come back in because of who they are or what they have done. Need to earn it and why risk pushing Chair too soon if our form and players form is improving |  | | |

Would be interesting to know how Chair sees the bigger picture, and if he and MC view his role any differently what with the big breathing spaces of his injuries.
For me, he's still a 10, with licence to roam. I actually love the idea of him, Smyth and Saito all starting, but in that case who do you drop?

Also thought he was good and was delighted to see his assist. I am a massive Chair fan and am really looking forward to him hopefully starting games soon and bringing his qualities to the table.
But did anyone else notice that before the game, he seemed to spend quite a while in the warmup on his own, doing kickups in the middle of our half but not really part of any group... and then after the game, he did applaud the Lower Loft/SAR but apart from a quick exchange with Kolli, made his way to the tunnel? Had hoped he'd enjoy milking it with the rest of the group a bit more, having provided the assist!
I wondered if he'd been hoping he'd start, or maybe he's feeling under the weather and just wanted to get home.

Not sure there is much space in a 10 role these days hence him playing from the flanks.
Kolli looks very dynamic, strong and pacey would love to see him and Frey combining up front.

Agreed. Great attitude and work rate, but against teams like Preston,and there are quite a few in this league, just gets flattened constantly.
Chair can handle the physicality and his balance and control keeps defenders at arm’s length. Far superior player. Put two great crosses in and had a shot blocked from a Smyth cross in the 10 minutes he was on. Also worked really well with Paal down that left hand side. On the subject of muscle, Kolli can’t really play as a back to goal lone striker. Time and again in the first half he was first to the ball but just lifted off it by strong defenders. Top marks for willing effort and I was delighted for him when he scored but it was noticeable that the goal was built around him rather than through him. It’s been Hobson’s Choice over the last few weeks making our form all the more remarkable but I think we’ll be even stronger with Chair, Frey and Paal back in the squad.

Well summarised. That has happened in the last few games and Saito has been dispossessed way too easily. He's still a talent who will get better and I hope he's with us beyond this season.
However, there are levels and he's not at Chair's level yet. Chair also dropped deep on a few occasions, when he came on, to receive a pass and got a shot off, which their keeper saved and then thwarted Smyth's effort going in. In addition to the instances you mentioned, that's some involvement in just over half-an-hour's play.
We have definitely missed Paal too, who that miss aside, had a good game and enabled us to use the entire width of the pitch. They dovetailed well down the left-hand side. [Post edited 22 Dec 12:33]

I think Saito has had two of his poorest games in the last 7 days and Chair coming back is timely, but despite the assist Chair was still well off his best and is going to need a fair few games given how much he missed including most of pre-season. Chair isnt match fit yet and we have seen with rushing back WIllock how you can ruin a player.
Saito was not bad but not great either in that game. People forget that this PNE side is not like Oxford; they have decent defenders, it's just that day the whole team played so well that we made them look like Oxford.
So, Saito was up against better players than other teams and I suspect he was required to stop PEN coming down that side until they PNE gave up. Chair came on against tired legs, but he did what was needed. Even before the goal, he put in a cross that nearly fell to Smyth for a tap-in.
Chair is the better player, but he's not match fit yet.I would go with sub and come on for last 35 mins next time.
And see where we are. Saito might get more joy against Swansea, who are less into the beat-em-up side of the Champ. |  |

I really like Saito but he has just abandoned the left side of the pitch . He had most success this season playing really wide and attacking his full back . He has stopped doing that completely and has drifted into the middle if the pitch . |  | | |
