Must be hard for you, even harder knowing he got 37% of Hispanic women voting for him. And 44% of all women.

When did I say I admired him? I think it's amusing that the looney left can't understand that other people, the majority in this case, have a different point of view. He's a flawed, unpredictable character there's no doubt about it, but he's been demonised relentlessly by the left media here and the US, BBC and Ch4 and still won. It's called Democracy.

I think you forgot that he was also convicted of; 34 counts of fraud, sexual assault, went with 2 porn stars whilst married, discriminated against black people in 70/80's who wanted to rent his buildings, and then there was the sham Trump University where he had to pay out %25m. Finally, we will probably never know what he got up to with his friend Jeffrey Epstein. This isn't all down to him being hounded by the media ? I appreciate America has voted and that is democracy, but still amazed that they believe he is fit and proper to run the US. Even his own VP compared him to Hitler.

Yes, Trump is heavily compromised, that's exactly how the Deep State like their leaders - it makes them more pliable.
| I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it. |

Those are clearly very serious issues. But cheating on your wife and going with porn stars is against the law? Who knew! What about spaffing a load over a lady’s dress? Is that ok?

Quite, I agree it's democracy. I'm not disputing he's been charged with fraud, withholding government documents, hush payments for sex etc etc ( and cried witch-hunt, which has strengthened his support) I think many people who voted for him were well aware of these charges, but despite them, see Trump's view of the world and his policies striking accord with their own and they were prepared to overlook his wrongdoing. By the way JFK was probably the worst sexual deviant, followed closely by Bill Clinton...

Ignored? I was unaware that he had been convicted of rape. If that’s the case then that’s not something to ignore. My understanding however, is that it was sexual abuse and defamation which (although of course abhorrent) is not the same thing. As for ignoring the rest, surely we can take it as read, that he’s an odious man.

US Election on 18:04 - Nov 8 by NYC_Saint | I think it's a reminder that the US is a center right country. Voters ousted him after one term on the promise of more moderate, centrist and unifying leadership from Biden. They got very little leadership at all - he quickly was removed from public view as he went downhill cognitively. He should've steeped aside years, not months, ago. Instead, he stuck it out until there was a coup and ultimately voters were left with two poor choices (and Harris' VP choice was beyond a joke - worse than Palin in 2008, - it exposed her as weak and insecure; had she picked Shapiro they would've stood a much stronger chance of winning). The massively low turnout for Harris vs Biden in 2020 (69mn vs 81mn in 2020) shows that there was limited resolve for people to "vote against" Trump given what they were served up for the last 4 years. Some of the more loony left stuff (think doubling down on in tact biological men's rights to be fully naked in women's changing rooms) also gave more rightward leaning voters a veil to hide behind rather than expose their more backward opinions. Ultimately Trump's bark is worse than his bite and a lot of the rhetoric is a negotiation tactic as we saw last time round. Effectively the US has gone without any real Presidential leadership now for 8 years. Hopefully it and the world can muddle through another 4 and maybe a credible centrist Dem caucus emerges in time for 2028 rather than feeling they have to lean even further left. |
I'm not sure i agree the US is a center right country, from an outside perspective i'd say it's a hard right country which at times flirts with being a theocracy. As for Trump himself do i think he's a fascist? Probably not, in fact i don't think he's really got any political opinions at all, i think he's probably just a completely immoral businessman with no interests far beyond enriching himself, at whatever cost. Do i think those around him have far right/fascist leanings, almost certainly. If you look at Umberto Eco's definition of Fascism then those around him fall directly into it. If i had to place the Trump regime somewhere on the political scale i'd say it's probably closer to Pinochet and the Chicago School (with hints of Orban) rather than Mussolini or Franco.
