Is he just a dud or not interested, Lloyd looked much more up for it when he came on.

But as said they have to be hitting the penalty spot or else Celar isn’t going to be getting on the end of them, which again raises the question of why we signed a player who needs a very particular type of service that we will never satisfy

that just seems very specific that the only way he can score is if he gets the ball bang on the penalty spot, what happens if the defence realise that and just stand on that spot?
Can he not try and get on the end of other inviting crosses

Proper clutching at straws now in desperation, but has anyone seen this lad play yet?

Worth a place on the bench, or nowhere near ready?

I caught something on Netflix yesterday about a player bought by the Phildelphia baseball team. Trea Turner signed an 11-year $300m contract, and had the Phillies fans drooling about their WS prospects.

Anyway, he was effing useless! Couldn't carch, throw or hit the proverbial cow's buttocks with a baseball bat. Then a fan started a campaign: instead of booing him when he comes into bat, give him a standing ovation. Went viral and as he came out to bat, as one they rose.

Well ring the liberty bell, but Turner starts knocking it out the park. 16 homers in the next two months.

A thought. Just a thought...

Vaughan seems to have disappeared. Hasn't been involved with DS for about 6 weeks.

Well, the only positive I can think of is that now at least Celar knows he's going to get a run of games.

Time for some positive reinforcement from the coaches.

I mean it depends on the type of cross - if it’s one to the back stick, no because he will be on the penalty spot. If it’s one flashed across the face, then no because he will be on the penalty spot.

it's like signing a goalkeeper and saying he can only save shots that go straight at him or to his right, he can't possible save one to his left.

I'm sure his preference is to get the ball on that spot but it won't always happen so he might need to be a bit more adaptable.

Great story John.

I have never understood booing your own players and team it's the same as cheering the opposition.

The clue is in the word, supporter.

Have a look at minute 76 of the highlights. That for me isn't a player pulling away and finding space for a cross.

Yes he does initially move toward the area of the penalty spot, that's true. But he doesn't stay there, he keeps moving forward parallel between their centre backs. So at that point he either has to be ready to react to Smyth's flashed cross - which I think could have been more subtle under the circumstances so needed a bit of anticipation.

So he can accept that he's not getting a shot off here unless he reacts, because he's smack in between both defenders, and the chances of Smyth caressing it onto his toe in this scenario are not high - how many times has that happened in training probably none.

But he's not standing on the penalty spot waving his arms having made space for himself or others - he either needs to show some determination to try to react to the cross or do nothing, and he does nothing.

Agree so much on this. Why can't we make him a cult hero? So far he's played like one of us if we had shuffled on to the pitch after a few pints, so there is plenty to relate to.

It can't do any harm, and might be worth a laugh at the very least. Unless he thinks we are taking the proverbial, which I guess we probably are.

He just looks so sad to me. Anything to cheer him up.

He does look sad, which is sad. Didn’t look at his reaction when Morgan scored, noticed he just walked to the changing room when substituted.

A bit lost on this one, he is a full international for not the worst team in the world so has a better pedigree than some of the chums we have bought ( Pedigree Chum joke there without knowing it). As well as sad he almost looks scared, easy way to not make a mistake is to not touch the ball?

Don’t know the answer…. All I know as mentioned is booing him won’t help

Smyth in the 2nd half flashed a great cross across the box near the pen spot and Celar was nowhere near it. It was great cross, begging for someone to have a go. No one was there.

Smyth ran Da Silva ragged. This is one of Covs top players who is usually an attacking fullback, but Smyth pinned him back. If he's fit knowing Marti, he will be selected again.

For Burnley, I wouldn't be surprised if Marti drops Dembele for Andersen to bring on Dembele later on. He was dropping hints that Saito has trained at LWB so, he will probably pick Fox then. I hope not.

Back to Celar, he likes to find space in between the oppo back two. This requires you to see his run and thread it through. I am not sure we have players like that. We instead push it to the wing for crosses or if its Chair one-twos for a cross-shot on goal. I can only see Andersen or Varane playing balls that Celar needs. And that's a stretch.

At least Madsen hopefully won't start.
