So, really stupid idea… how about we start a petition, loads of other fans aren’t going to be happy about this. It also impacts local business, could we get to the magic 100k and get some time in parliament to try and get some heat on Sky and the EFL?

Just had a quick google, seems there’s already one or two petitions to scrap the 3pm blackout.
I’ll see if there’s anything worth posting a link to ….

Sadly us older fans have to take a share of the blame. In the 90s with the success of Blackburn, we became intoxicated by the idea of a sugar daddy. We demanded transfers, we railed against sales. That put pressure on clubs and as they began to chase riches and glory, they needed more money. As they spent more so Sky bid more, and fans demanded more. And if success is not immediate then sack, sack, sack. The result was entire countries buying clubs and so FFP was born years too late.
All sky do is feed a demand. The clubs take the money in pursuit of promotion and more money, increasingly a pipe dream anyway, such is the low chance of promotion followed by establishment.
Even 15 years ago our own fans gorged themselves on the wet excitement of super rich ownership, waving money at other fans, believing one more signing will change the course of our history. Sky keep feeding us. They are feeders. We are the consumers. We eat and eat and are never sated. Football our junk food and our lifeblood. Look not for easy villains: look within. Look what you’ve done. All of you. The horror.

Well, I am confused...l will be over in the UK at the end of October staying near Cardiff but we (wife, two kids, a mate and me)can make the Sunderland game, going to London from Cardiff on Saturday morning. Officially it is a 3pm k.o.at the moment, so this would give me time to check into the hotel at Heathrow (we are going back on sunday)and get to the game. But an earlier kick off would be awkward. When are such things moved? Month earlier or weeks or days or 5 minutes before ko? I think everything is announced up to Christmas/New Year now so you should be safe I would have thought for October. |  | | |

Sorry, I posted this on another thread the other day, but wanted to share again:
I've been reading this forum for ages but this is the first time I've posted a message.
I have always hated how Sky messed about with fixtures without a thought for the supporters who actually attend games and with the huge increase in live games and moved 3pm matches, enough was enough for me.
I had already paid for my season ticket but when I realised how many games had been moved to 12:30pm, I contacted the club to let them know my thoughts and one of their replies is below. I travel up from Sussex and due to other commitments (my children's clubs), I cannot make 12:30pm KO's. QPR have given me a full refund.
I don't have Sky TV and never have (I loathe them!) Personally, I think more people need to ditch Sky and boycott games to show how we feel. Let the club/league know. Because it's only going to get worse otherwise. I've spoken to supporters of other Championship clubs who feel the same as me.

We unfortunately, sadly have very little say over the tv selections and fixtures, and we understand the frustrations that season ticket holders feel. We would recommend reaching out to the EFL directly with any queries as they should have the information to be able to advise and assist. They can be reached via email on enquiries@efl.com.
The Box Office will be able to assist with your request of cancellation and a refund for your season tickets, and we have left them CC’d into this chain.

Same with everything, its money and money people that have ruined it all.
No one got intoxicated by a sugar daddy. I think fans realised that the only way to compete was to spend money. That is how it is.

Just been looking at some other clubs forums and it looks like a lot of supporters are not happy about all the 12:30pm kick offs. I’m surprised more hasn’t been said about this yet. I’ve spoken to a few other people who are in the same position as me; i.e. they take their children to football/sports clubs on Saturday mornings and cannot make 12:30pm kick offs. But it’s not just that; the atmosphere is usually flat and there’s not time for the usual pre-match drinks and socialising so many supporters look forward to. Going for drinks afterwards just isn’t the same (especially if your team has lost).
Did any of the clubs consult any supporter groups? Of course not! It seems like people are complaining, but accepting this. | | | |

Football was struggling hugely in the 80s. Even early 90s I was at top flight QPR games with about 11-12000 people there.
TV basically couldn't give a monkey's about fans before Sky, giving us one game a week if we were lucky, and even then it was always Liverpool. Sky rightly realised people wanted to watch more football on telly.
Fans got completely intoxicated by sugar daddies and the idea of them, to say they didn't is absurd. Not *ALL* fans of course, but plenty did (still do).

Not much wrong with football in the 80s. Me and my mates could rock up at any ground and get in for a few quid. Used to go to Arsenal a lot in the Graham era (Gooner mates), which is insane now considering they were champions and there's a huge waiting list for season tickets. Yes, there was more hooliganism around and obviously the stadiums were more decrepit but it was fun. Obviously, once the commercial men realised the potential of TV, and after that the internet, things were always going to change. There's that When Saturday Comes episode from the early 90s I think which basically predicts it all. Look at terracing - they didn't need to get rid of it all (as shown by the success of safe standing) but they knew it would appeal to the middle class fan and make more money if they did. Everything good gets rinsed by the money men in the end - look at rave culture and how that evolved into superclubs and superstar DJs 'playing' Vegas.
It's certainly not the fault of fans who actually go to matches - the 12.30 kick-offs aren't for us. We're only useful as a completely empty stadium would look crap. | | | |

Strangely, my older brother, who took me to my first match in the 50s stopped going when we got into the top flight in the late 60s saying “no, it just won't be the same”
