Everton points deduction.... 20:23 - Oct 25 with 3140 viewsWilkinswatercarrier

Being reported in The Telegraph and The Guardian that the FA have recommended that Everton are deducted 12 points for FFP breach. Ouch!

Everton are alleged to have breached Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules - with the Premier League wanting to impose a 12-point deduction on Sean Dyche's struggling team.
The Toffees, who have narrowly avoided relegation in each of the last two seasons, are said to have breached the Premier League's financial rules. It's believed English football's leading division wants them to face a severe punishment, setting a strong example.

Everton are absolutely jammy. If they received this deduction in recent years, they get relegated easily. Instead, any deduction would be in a season where Luton, Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Burnley are all beyond abject, and Everton would probably still make it back.

Not only that, but it took a herculean underachievement by Leicester for Everton to barely stay up last year anyway!

Those four you name are indeed "beyond abject", but Everton are hardly so good that they're otherwise certain to finish 12 points (13 for GD maybe?) ahead of two of them.

So far this season they've managed 7 points from 9 games, which over the course of the season would give them 29.55 points - call it 30. If the 12 points were deducted, it's debateable whether three of the four teams would each gain fewer than 18 points, though Sheff U likely will, and Bournemouth need to start extracting the finger soon.

The other thing to consider is what effect it would have on EFC's morale if a big deduction saw them go from reasonable safety into the relegation zone all of a sudden.

Tbh, I think their best hope may be to somehow spin it out with appeals etc until after the season is over?

Indeed:

"The Premier League has charged Manchester City with more than 100 breaches of its financial rules following a four-year investigation.

It has referred the club to an independent commission over alleged rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

It also accused City of not co-operating since the investigation started in December 2018.

The commission can impose punishments ranging from a fine and points deduction to expulsion from the Premier League."

Mind you, MCFC will have the best lawyers money can buy, meaning it must still be long odds-against the PL making anything substantive stick (imo).

And you don’t think that a club with Everton’s resources have the best lawyers that money can buy?

I doubt there’s much difference in legal representation when we’re talking about billionaire football clubs.

What Man City and Newcastle both have is state controlled ownership that could apply pressure to the UK government if needed.

Can we not assert some pressure on the UK Government to get rid of Ainsworth?

Threat of an all out riot on the Uxbridge Road might get their attention!

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!
