Our very own RWC thread.

Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England will join 16 other nations as they compete for the ultimate prize in rugby – the Webb Ellis Cup – which was last won by the Springboks in 2019. The opening match of Rugby World Cup 2023 will see hosts France face three-time winners New Zealand on Friday 8th September. The final will take place seven weeks later on Saturday 28th October.

We’ve got a nice draw. Try being Scotland or Italy. Plus if we get through the group, we miss out NZ, SA, Ireland and France.

I'm a bit concerned about Fiji, Georgia and Australia!

Fair, but we’d be favourites against two of those and will more than likely escape the group.

If we were in with Ireland and South Africa or France and New Zealand I’d be more concerned!

Owen Farrell's red card has been upheld and he has been banned for four matches.

You can see why he was left out of the Ireland match - so it could be backdated to that match.

Australians and English init butt, common bond init, those two crowds way too pally.
Rugby needed Argies or French or Tongans or the like sitting in judgement.

Am currently making a massive tv schedule chart with all the dates and ko times for my 88 year old Rugby mad grandfather which will go up on the wall next to the TV in his nursing home, he thinks he runs the place and the old ladies there do not know about it yet so i guess it is just a matter of time until it all kicks off excuse the pun.

Oh yes, absolutely. I don’t think a camaraderie to rival England and Australia in sport exists anywhere!!

I still can’t contemplate any Australian panel, regardless of sport or code wanting to favour England especially when the evidence is so damn obvious!

We don’t know the mindset of that panel but the “ punishment” was concerning .
It was also rather perverse if we are looking to make game safer

Morning Sir.
Bit of a smack in the eye for the All Blicks.
I’m still working out how Du Toit and Barrett won’t miss the start of the RWC
Biggest thing for me is seeing the Bokke running their backs after pummelling their opponents.
It’s a big country though and now the shameful and quite ludicrous exclusion on non white people playing the game alongside nativeAfrikaners and whites is over we are seeing the huge potential of this nation .
How utterly dumb was Apartheid . I’m hoping Verwoerd ,Vorster ,Botha and chums arecrotting somewhere in the dust bowl in the sky

Massive statement, although the Ref helped them, carded both Scott Barratt and Captain Sam Cane carded in quick succession, yet he allowed the Saffies to get away with a multiple series of consecutive penalties later in that first half and only carded Du toit after a deliberate short arm to the head of Sam Cane that should have been a red card IMO

Yes and no.
We gifted them several tries but #owed we can’t attack effectively when it’s on.
I was quite shocked at the indiscipline of the ABs but they will be hurting and the next opponent will pay.
It’s a dark day in Dunedin today

That’s a fair answer.

I don’t claim to be a rugby expert, but I’m quietly confident we can go deep in this tournament. We do have a couple of X factor backs who can create chances out of nothing, although I agree, we’re not great constructing attacks as a unit.

Second in the group and it’s an arm wrestle with England or Argentina. Both are beatable.

The backlash is against France!

Morning Sir
Fact is,we don’t know. It’s sport,it’s exciting,it adds a little light or levity to sometimes life’s more prosaic moments .
Wales could surprise big time; they could be smashed asunder if they don’t do the basics .
Scotland will be the danger team to the big guns.
England ,unless they wise up,will be laughingly humiliated . I hope so as I hate the RFU with a passion .

As regards SA ,it would be nice to see black and white Bokke standing next to each other .
Watching the number of White Bokke at Twickers makes you wonder if any are left in SA .
I only just learned they changed the name of Port Elizabeth to Gquberha, though I bet cruise holidays will still refer to it as it’s former name or P.E. .

Game was like a game between men against boys, Saffies attacked from the first whistle smashing the AB's backwards time and time again, this Saffies team is massive in pace and stature, nailed on to win the World Cup in the form they're in at the moment, for me!
