Are we progressing under Russ? 09:46 - Apr 3 with 2929 viewsvetchonian

Ok we are now well into Russ's second season and much debate still abounds around his ability so are we progressing or regressing is the question?

Finished 15th last season currently sit 15th so no change there it seems though the barometer for Russy is his success in the derby....now a double doube....but this season we only beat 10 men at home 2nil whilst last season we beat an eleven man Cardiff 3 nil then away from home we scrapped a late winner up there after giving away a 2 goal lead having beaten then 4nil up there last season.....Progress?

Poll: Will CCFC win a game this season?

Bottom line is we have not progressed under Russ, we need to take the blinkers off after two straight wins.

The owners have interesting decisions this summer and they need to get the player recruitment right regardless of whoever the manager is because this current squad is regressing into a league one team. At the moment we have poor goalie and defence, no width and pace to the team and if Piroe leaves this summer, I fear next season.

Are there any of the younger players that have progressed this season, Cullen maybe?, the more I see Oli Cooper he is looking more league 1/2 quality, Wood and Cabango look leaky at the back, Is championship is step to far for Darling. The recruitment this season has been poor.

Agree withe the keeper but don't think we do have a poor defence, think it's the tactics deployed, very high risk very low reward. When we go flat back 4 , we look much more solid.

The first problem for the owners is that Martin is in the position Cooper was in with one year left.

He will have been speaking to Mr Winter I would imagine for a new 2 year extension up to and including 24-2025 season. The US owners told Cooper no but Cooper wanted a big pay rise based on his two play offs. He di not get it and then wanted out with a mutual agreement.

The owners have controlled the narrative by not spending any money in January which was a shock to Martin who expected to bring in 3 -4 signings. The owners forced Martin to get more out of the team by his coaching ability not a quick fix with new signings. Fisher and Sorinola and Whittaker have bombed while Cullen Wood Ollie Cooper have done enough. Martin needs to get good results to proove he can manage under "difficult circumstances" like Millwall and Luton have done.

Martin spending £5-6m (Silverstein's and Levien's own money) in transfer fees to inhabit mid table nothingness is not good business. Martin spending nothing in mid table is acceptable blooding the kids.

There was no point is spending big money in January as this team could not get top 6 with the frailties at the back. It is part of Martin's job to get Benda, Piroe, Wood etc to dsign extensions. Piroe should be offered better money knowing he will not be on the bench for a bigger team lie he was a PSV.

Wise sage since Toshack era

When we are good we are very good, unfortunately it has not happened often enough. Will we finish higher this season than last, it's to early to tell. IMO the real progress is through the age groups where international recognition and progress is clear. So as a club we are progressing, it now just needs to show through the first team.

The thing about the age groups is, most of them won't make it anywhere near chanpionship level.

Then Swansea have a decent record over recent years.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.
