What I liked about the USA team where this nonsense originated.
They were offered the same terms as the men, a reward based contract. Meaning if you play then you get paid.
They rejected it in favour of a pay structure where you get slightly less but that money is guaranteed and not linked to time on the pitch or success.
After they were successful they worked out they would have made more if they took the initial deal, so sued the US FA; and demanded back pay to when the original offer was declined.
